There is a slight similarity between that song's melody and Labyrinths bassline.

@E102: I swear it sounded more like the last bit in Skyscraper Scamper when I was playing it, but maybe I was just frustrated at the game, lol. But thanks dude. :p

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
"Geigeki" from the Highschool of the Dead OST has a riff that sounds exactly like one in Glyphic Canyon

@41 secs. Kinda funny that they happen at the same time and they're used in almost exactly the same way, huh?

Holy SHIT! You can't get anymore blatant rip off than this. Either someone from the band(s) was involved with both songs or it's time for a lawsuit.

From a composer stand point that makes sense. That first song was deserving of a better game...too bad it got trapped there :(

People borrow in music all the time, it's nothing to lawyer up about. Besides, it's more probable that both songs are just using a premade sample.

Actually, it sounds like what Spring Yard would be if it was in Sonic CD. :o

Sonic borrowing from The Beatles... imokaywiththis.jpg

Provided it was intentional, of course...

Did I mention how using samples....especially melodic ones is pure blasphemy? If you like how something sounds, mimic it using your own style in the very least. Sure, it takes more time, but it's always worth it.

Of course, the Beatles didn't write the riff:

This seems artificially and unnecessarily strict to me, but of course I'm a big fan of sampling and plunderphonics. They explore the wabi of the source in a unique way. (Which is not to say that sampling is always done with such a highminded purpose.)

I think Hideki Naganuma's work qualifies as not just plagiarism though.

I like the way that sampling and remixes (REAL remixes, not the version of the term that actually just means video game cover and/or arrangement) explore pieces of work in ways they weren't originally intended and I think that sort of "remix culture" is fascinating and not blasphemous. Maybe something like MC Hammer reusing the entirety of Superfreak is a bit over the top but things like Naganuma's work, reinterpreting sections of other works to make a different whole is not.

    I'll just leave this here...

I apologize for the quality of the voice. It was heavily compressed when I found it, and had to undergo some time and pitch shifting to get it to the same key and tempo as Escape from the City. I think it gets the point across, though.

I don't think that right there is as blasphemous, but it does show that many songs follow the same song structure in terms of A,B,C sections, etc. That actually sounded pretty cool!

    Life.
    Hehhehheh, nifty.

The vocals sound pretty goofy when sped up just to match Escape though. I'd recommend finding a good compromise of the pitch and tempo between the two songs - ie, try slowing down City Escape to match the speed of the vocals, or if that sounds as goofy as this does, try finding a middle ground.

"Escape from the City" is in the key of B, and the vocals are in the key of F. Best of luck!

(I wouldn't mind taking a look at the separate tracks myself, if you're up for the assistance. :) )

Thanks, but I'm good. I got the point across and that's all I wanted to do. If you want to do some work on it yourself, I just used the instrumental track from the SA2 vocal album and the Complicated vocals from http://www.youtu.be/2MVOlk9bYeU

And yeah, it's not that bad, I just happen to like Jun Senoue a whole lot more than I like Avril Lavigne.

Speaking of which, if you guys haven't heard of Frost* I would suggest checking them out and their album milliontown, alot of sonicy sounding sounding stuff.

The timbre of Sonic CD US, pretty similar to Chemical Plant and all sorts of classicy sonic sounding goodness imo.

It's probably because they're both composed by Mariko Nanba.

See this very thread in Sept 2009:

(By the way, who else sees the characters in that Billy Hatcher image as blatant ripoffs of Sonic, Amy, Tails, and Knuckles?)
