Wait till about halfway through, and the similarity becomes more apparent when the piano melody comes in. Coincidence probably.

    Sweet Love - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcU5pnooak8
    Resort Island - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioLPFCVojx0
Maybe... Sweet Sweet Sweet (stylistically, but, even if that is the case it isn't much because that WAS the style back then) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1hB8jFRpDc

I kept getting the nagging feeling when I listened to this song that it sounded Sonicy. We've narrowed it down to Resort Island and the DCT song Sweet Sweet Sweet. I don't know if there is anything here, just check it out.

Rick Astley's Together Forever is also similar to Resort Island (Possibly way more so than Sweet Love...)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B62p-dEfUZM

Rusty Ruins (Stylistic Similarities) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ_qheNzIm4

Ok, this song basically IS the SOR2 theme song, but at the same token, it shares a couple stylistic elements with Rusty Ruins, enough in my opinion to warrant asking Jacques if it was a possible inspiration.

EDIT: YES, Sadeness Pt.1 was without a doubt a huge inspiration on the sound and style of Rusty Ruins. We confirmed this in the Richard Jacques interview at SAGE.

Don't Stop Til You Get Enough - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_hz2am90Hk
Wanna Be Startin Something Sped Up (The bassline will sound very similar if the tracks are tempo and key-synced) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPTsmswQVwg
    Mystic Caves 2 Player - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhZzANSpUNk

Michael Jackson wasn't involved in Sonic 2, but this song is more stylistically similar to MJ than anything we have on him for Sonic 3. I wonder if maybe Nakamura didn't compose this song though, as it was shafted to a 2P theme and replaced with what Sound Test 10 is now. It's possible someone there was a Jackson nut, and if we can find a bit more evidence, we might be able to confirm whoevers theory that Nakamura didn't write ALL the music in Sonic 2, or at the very least that Mystic Caves 2P was a placeholder track.

Stranger Things Have Happened - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEIeb85DkCs
    Live and Learn - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9zZus_1_ag

Haha, this is the most retarded comparison of them all. Basically the rhythmical figures are similar. Different keys, different chords, etc. Only reason I even came up with this is because I was learning Live and Learn on my acoustic and was playing through it about the tempo Stranger Things Have Happened is at, and I noticed the rhythm figure for the main extremely similar.

There is a specific song that would better demonstrate the similarity, however I don't know the name of said song. :E

    ---
New Jack Swing would also be the more accurate source of the style sound bytes in Launch Base Zone.
see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZZADbubu0Y (Ironically the lyrics of this song also reference SEGA)

    Launch Base Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZH1o8N9PXU

Note: These are all bullshit and baseless and here for reference and entertainment purposes only. They are, however, still cool songs to listen to and would make good mixing materials.

I'd like to add a sample reuse from Sonic Adventure and a completely different game to the mix.

Compare Goin' Down for Speed Highway and Stimulation (Capcom vs. SNK 2: New York stage).

At about 4½ seconds into the former, you hear 'So listen closely, approach me', and then some garbled words, finally ending with 'cut a sucka in small chunks, make more rhymes than Michael Jordan makes--', and is then cut off.

I believe the version heard in Stimulation is clearer and easier to make out (Goin' Down's seems sped up).

Since Sonic Adventure predates CvS2, it's clear who used it first.

What's odd is that I don't seem to be able to find WHERE this is sampled from...

Interesting—looks like that's where that part of the song was sampled from. Cool stuff!

    AWESOME.

We should find where all the samples in Sonic CD JPEU come from.

Eh, no—like I said, it's just sampling. It's very common in that style of music.

Okay, just out of curiosity and all, why didn't you mention this? (I was pretty sure I couldn't have been the only person to notice the similarities between these two tracks):

Together Again by Janet Jackson (I couldn't find the original because I don't know who sings it, but this one works anyway because it's still the same tune and all.)

Cinossu noticed that one years ago - there's 2 comparison MP3s somewhere, one at each speed of song.

I don't think anyone mentioned this yet, but one part from Aquatic Ruin's music is taken directly from one of those typical western cowboy showdown themes that you sometimes hear from time to time in movies/tv shows - most notably "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"'s theme. It's the first thing you hear in the theme, which is also the semi first thing you hear in Aquatic Ruin's theme. I'm not saying anything other than this though, things like this are very common (I can remember a few movies using this, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, etc ~ anything that uses a western/cowboy theme).

Here's a simple compare wav I did quickly. I used Audio Overload to disable the channels from the Aquatic Ruin Zone VGM then recorded TGTBTU's theme after I recorded ARZ's theme in the same wav.

Another thing which falls in the same catagory such as this is Carnival Night Zone's music. No, this isn't another MJ connection. A significant part of the song uses a stereotypical carnival/circus stock theme (Barnum and Baily maybe?).

Take a listen if you want. Used same methods for the CNZ's music but since I didn't find anything that sounds like what I'm talking about, it's the only thing you'll hear.

It might not sound exactly like the music it's based on, but it's very loose. I wish I could find an example of this carnival theme being used as I've heard it 10010-83029474028947 times before. Not only that, but since it sounds very "stock" if anyone knows the name of the theme I'm trying to connect it with, it might be on apmmusic.com.

PS: About those EU/JP Sonic CD songs, I think Virtua Fighter's use of one of the samples you can hear makes it instantly clear that they're very common samples. ;p

Check out this compilation. A huge list of all the sonic music that's been reused/revamped.

Edit: Maybe one of you should contact EspioKAOS to see if we can absorb this into the wiki. Tell him his article is being assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Holy mother fucking shit. I know a lot of people who were trying to decipher what the lyrics to the song were. Guess we know now.
After listening to a lot of the euro songs with this in mind, there are a lot more songs that use samples from other disco/early pop songs.

    Oh yeah, and uhh...guys:
Sonic 3 Mini Boss meets It Takes 2
Listen to 0:33-0:39 for "It Takes 2" and then listen to 0:41-0:47 for Sonic 3's Mini Boss theme and tell me that isn't similar.

I can't believe I didn't see this before. And I'm kinda stuned no one said this before. Guess I'm the only one who listens to good music. :P

This is poor quality sound but you can hear the melody that you're thinking of.

Thank you! That's exactly what I had in mind. Now that you mention that melody, you can hear the same exact thing in Circus Park in Shadow the Hedgehog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erUgBh6fIPg ~ 0:16).

Going back to the Sonic 3's miniboss theme, I hope I'm not the only one who can hear the connection to "It Takes Two" in there. I mean, it even has the "Woo/Hoo" and the "Hey" that you normally hear in both songs as well. The "Come on" part, I haven't got a clue. But I think I'm getting offtopic by mentioning it though, so. But it's nice to make a connection that isn't LOL MICHAEL JACKSON once in while. When I find a lossless version of "It Takes Two", I'll have at attempting to prove what I stated. I think I'm right though. :P
