Things in Sonic Games you misinterpreted when you were younger...

I had no clue how to pronounce "echidna" until about a month ago. I still pronounce it wrong from time to time. Old habits die hard.

 

About Tails' tails twisting up, it happened once in AoStH, but then he started flying normally. Click the picture for a video (it's at about 2:56):

 

Man, I love that show.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that happen elsewhere.

How did you pronounce it, if you don't mind my asking?

 

I pronounced it as e-ch-idna as opposed to e-k-idna.

 

After watching a couple more episodes of AoStH, Tails' tails seem to twist up briefly every time he flies.

 

When I first started looking at this website, I though people discussing "Level Design" were talking about the design of the artwork, rather than the position of the chunks.

 

I've just got one misinterpretation that happened recently, and it involves Carbuncle. Is this the right place to put it?

I thought it was a Pokemon, not a character in Puyo Puyo. FML.

 

I've always called Team "Kay-Ah-Ticks" Team "Chow-Ticks".
I also always thought that running into a checkpoint in the classic trilogy would make me run into it and lose all my rings. What is wrong with me

 

Well you're still doing it wrong then. It's "Kay-oh-ticks", the same sound as in 'chaos' or 'chaotic'.

 

I believe there is a difference here between American and British pronunciation. In the states, as far as I know (my only experience is Texas), it is pronounced "Kay-Ah-Ticks". Same for "chaos" and "chaotic".

 

Well I always mis-interpreted bubbles in MGZ, and LZ for certain death, I do not know why. I thought in Labyrinth you had Sonic curl in a ball and had to control a rotating maze, much like the special stage. Hell, was I wrong.

 

Oh, I remember one!

Long before I beat the game, I heard the ending music of Sonic 2 in the sound test (you know, the sad-sounding version of the options/sound test menu music), and thought that it had something to do with Sonic's death. I was bummed.

When I was a kid though, the thought of the death of my favorite characters (especially video games) really fucked me up. Super Mario 64 had the biggest example of that - remember the little Koopa guy in star 3 onward of Bob Omb Battlefield? The one you can punch and knock him out of his shell, and he runs around in a panic? I loved that little guy. I was crushed the first time Mario took a swing at him post-shell loss and I killed him.

 

I think that's down to accent, rather than the actual logical pronunciation. You get different accents in Britain which raise the O or A sound. An exMple being londoners and northerners in the way the word 'bath' is pronounced, because of dialect, not because there's an actual change. Am I making sense? Damn, it's too early for me.

also I always thought Debug was called Construction Zone

And spin dash was super spin... though this is extremely common.

 

Oh, great, almost forgot this classic one:

In Australia, it is pronounced SEE-GAH. I've always thought it was SAY-GAH, or SE-GA.

 

Likewise. I still do, in fact, 'cos I'm stuck in my oldfaggy ways.
But then again I still pronounce "Eggman" as "Robotnik".

 

I also thought it had something to do with a "bad ending" that I never got.

Depressed me when I heard it, and made me wonder what it was for...

 

That is more common then you think.

 

I remember when I was younger, I thought Knuckles was Sonic's girlfriend.

I still have no clue what made me think that was the case...

 

Pro'ly cause the sprites' shading make it look like he's wearing eyeliner. I thought Knuckles was a girl, and a friend thought they were in a relationship...but she also knew they were both male...*shudder*
