I always used think that Eggrobo was just Robotnik with a mask on. I concluded that that was why the FBZ boss was not Eggrobo, but Robotnik (which is obviously wrong).

There were probably two Spanish versions of the AoSH cartoons, one for Spain and one for Latin America. In the version that aired in Puerto Rico (I think it was the one for Latin America), Tails was referred tp as a girl. I hated it.

Speaking of those, I used to think that if a piranha grabbed you, there was no way to escape and you had to wait for all the rings to be sucked out of you. It wasn't after a few months of ignorance that I found out that flicking LEFT-RIGHT, LEFT-RIGHT, LEFT-RIGHT was the way to get rid of them.

I figured that out simply by going "OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD" and flailing around like an idiot.
  4. It's not? I thought it was until just now.

Other than that I think most of my misinterpretations were just pronunciation errors. Although to this day there are still a few that leave me confused, namely Hydrocity (in my mind it always rhymes with "velocity" but when I say it out loud, it's always "Hydro City") and Casinopolis. Oh, and I briefly though Tails was a cat, but I was young and it was only because someone else told me he was a cat...

I also thought Knuckles was a woman, since the TV I first played Sonic 3 on looked like it was made in the late 70s, and the contrast and color settings made him look really pink.

I considered that for a while too. Although to my credit, I realised that the MHZ boss switching heads in Sonic Jam probably wasn't intended. :v:

Wait... you can get rid of the pirahnas with left-right-left-...? There are so many things I just don't know about the early Sonic games...

    Now then:
    -Labyrinth: La-by-rinth
    -Hydrocity: Hy-dro-ci-ty
-Chao: Originally Kao-oh, then changed (evolved?) into Cha-oh, and then Chow, and now it's somewhere in between all 3.
-Eggman/Robotnik: Robotnik in the original 4, Eggma everywhere else.
-Chemical Plant: Purple water. Oh, and ducking in Sonic 2 does NOT reduce your hitbox AT ALL. Scrolling the screen and avoiding the liquid's the only thing it's good for.
-Roller: I'm not sure if I ever made an opinion about it.
-Carnival Night Platform: Lava. Definitely lava. What, balloons? I always thought it hurt you if you hit it from underneath, too...
-Echidna: E-kid-nah. Trust me, I'm Australian. That's how you pronounce it. Semi-relatedly, I never actually noticed the different colourings of Knux in S3K.

Mostly non-Sonic-related, but I make cartoons.
Speaking of misinterpretations, until I read this just now, I thought the "blue goop that jumps out at you" were some kind of worms.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's "HI-droh-SIT-ee." No other level titles in the classic games are puns, so why would this one be? The other names are all just descriptions of the level environments, and this is supposed to be the ruins of an underwater city. Therefore... Hydro...City.

It's not "like velocity cause sonic's fast but water=hydro so hyDRAWcity durhurhur." If this was Crash Bandicoot, which DOES have titles like "Dino Might", "Snow Biz" "Cold Hard Crash", etc THEN it would probably "hi-draw-sit-ee." But when the other levels are all straightforward things like "Carnival Night" and "Ice Cap", it just doesn't make sense for it to be a pun.

    Let the debate die, man!
when I first played, I thought that the purple water was grape Kool-Aid. Refreshing, delicious grape Kool-Aid. I always imagined that stuff was produced in a facility like that.

I just now realized you can shake off those paranas in HCZ...FML
  11. I never really noticed Knuckles fought EggRobo until a few years after I started playing the game. I didn't really pay much attention to small details back then, 'cause I didn't notice the mural in Hidden Palace until I read about it somewhere.

I originally thought Chao was pronounced kay-oh, since it just looks like "chaos" without the s at the end. Apparently it's a very common mistake, because after I learned it was pronounced "chow" I heard the host of a video game TV show pronounce it kay-oh. Those piranhas (I assume we're talking about the Mega Chopper) also confused me until now. I knew you could get them off, but I wasn't sure exactly how. I did it accidentally by mashing every button on the controller for a few seconds but I didn't know all you had to do was walk left and right. Nowadays I just tend to use Tails to get 'em off.

When I was little, I used to use debug mode to get past the scenarios with Knuckles (like right before the boss in CNZ Act 2 and at the beginning of AIZ) and follow him running away. Eventually, he'd get ahead of me or hit something and turn blue. I thought that meant that he either died or froze.

That was when I was around 6-7 years old. :P

If it's anything at all like Sonic 1, it reduces Sonic's hitbox for projectiles like that, but not for solid objects like blocks.
  14. I used to think that, if you got a Game Over in Sonic CD, Amy became evil because along with the deep laughter in the GO music, there's also female laughter.
  15. It's just the same laugh sound played multiple times at different pitches with an organ in the background.

Pronounced Chaos as "Chay-os" (as in CHA-ir)

Thought that platform thing in Carnival Night was some kind of molten rock, and that the roller in Spring Yard was Metal Sonic.

And thought that my Sonic 3 cart was glitched because I couldn't get past that damn cylinder thing.

I remember back when I first played Sonic 1, I used to think the rock objects in GHZ were really tables with really long tablecloths over them. xD
However, I never assumed Tails was a girl. I know people some people out there make that mistake. I never did, even when I was little...
But I remember being confused, trying to figure out the meaning of the text that came before the titlescreen in Sonic 1 and 2, not knowing it said "Sonic and Tails ("Miles") in...". xDDDD

The last three things that always baffled me as a child were how Sonic was able to make his legs turn into a red wheel, how he was able to turn into a ball, and how he was able to fly when spin-dashing off that cliff in the Sonic CD intro movie. Not to mention I used to try and achieve all three of those things when I was little. xD

I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
I thought Casino Night Zone was made of gold. It wasn't until Sonic 4 came along with its stone-wall Casino Street Zone that I realized it was supposed to resemble a five-star hotel.

Man, and I thought that I was the only one who used to think that!

It just stood out from everything else, I guess.

I always thought it was some sort of chicken-like Badnik. Don't know why exactly, maybe they rolled by too fast to notice.
