is played in Carnival Night Zone (Sonic 3) at 0:04 and in Mystic Cave (Sonic 2) at 0:20. Both music must have been made with a circus styled level in mind.

Didn't one of the sonic 2 devs say that he/she remembered some work being on a level with giant clown heads? I think he wasn't sure if it was for Sonic 2, or for another STI game, but that always made me think that Mystic Cave might have been supposed to be something more than Green Cave Zone.

Was it Craig Stitt? I remember that too.
Clowns are a popular theme in games, and I am glad Sonic never took them in. They could have stolen Castle Of Illusion's circus level and clown stuff. Oh, Sonic Advance 1 and Sonic Advance 2.

Well, Carnival Night Zone is more obviously Circus-themed. Mystic Cave, however? I dunno, I hear a more "mystery" theme, not unlike:

    <!--id1--><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BQeNmXnOniU&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BQeNmXnOniU&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object><!--id2-->

But this isn't the "Almost Music Comparison" thread. All I'm trying to say is that the riff in Mystic Cave is probably more of a coincidence. There's nothing funny about Mystic Cave at all.

Dude, it's the exact same notes of a widely known public domain theme. It's not that farfetched.

Kinda like how it only took me about 10 seconds to figure out that barrel in CNZ, and I assumed everyone else understood the trick to it.

    Wait a minute...:colbert:

On the subject of Mystic Cave however....what kind of cave is it supposed to be? I always construed it to be some kind of spooky abandoned mine.

No but really. Rail tracks, crates, and switches all over the place. The only thing that doesn't fit in are those pillars of crushing...leaves? Rocks? I dunno.

Well if we are going to get into the finer details, I've always seen it as a just a normal cave. After all, caves are natural spaces rather than man made, even if you dig holes or lay railway tracks afterwards. Mines have to be made by man because mother nature hasn't had any influence in the creation of the spaces, or you could say that man made the holes first. And as for those moving rocks, well they could be the mystical thing about it. At the end of the day to have moving rocks like that in the real world would be pretty mystic.

I'd say that having floating boxes scattered around is more weird than those moving rocks.

Just something I noticed that was odd and I don't know why it is the way it is.

While in the process of convering Azura Lake's VGM to MID so I could fool around with it in FL Studio, I noticed that there was one instrument preset that's used that makes a very odd sound.

    <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38216/weird%20sound%20from%20azura.mp3" target="_blank">This is "Instrument 8" algorithm 4 (might want to turn down your speakers a tad).</a>

Here's the part of the song that this is used (click the image of the notes to listen). I recorded this on Regen by disabling all the channels except Channel3 while listening to the song from sound test. This is at the very very end of the song before it loops. You have to listen close to hear it.

    <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38216/weird%20sound%20being%20played%20in%20the%20song.mp3" target="_blank">[IMG]</a>

I have no idea why this is being used because you can barely hear it. Also, if you look at the image above, there are distinct notes that are trying to be played but cant output correctly because of this instrument. Let's hear the notes with another instrument.

    <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38216/notes%20played%20with%20different%20instrument.mp3" target="_blank">This is what it should sound like.</a>

Now the question here is, why is it like this? My guess is that it's a programming error, because there's no way that the instrument assigned to play those notes can actually play them.

    Any thoughts?

EDIT: For shits and giggles <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38216/what%20it%20should%20sound%20like.mp3" target="_blank">here's what the instrument I assigned to those notes would sound with all the other instruments/channels playing.</a>

Recently while playing S3K, I encountered something weird. In CNZ1, there's a platform near the beginning that has a fire shield, and just to the right is a rotating barrel. Upon running/spin dashing off the right side, Tails instantly plopped to the floor below, looked like 1 frame. The barrel was to the far right so I didn't get stuck between it and the platform, there was lots of open space. I was only able to replicate it 2 or 3 times.

By the way, does anyone remember how to change Tails's name to Miles in S3K?
