    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Regarding Knuckles' grunts, a German video game TV show's camera man suggested during their Sonic Heroes (PC) review that Knuckles was sayin' "Shit ROCKS! YEAH!!".

Yeah, that. I always heard wudda wudda when I was younger, though, at least, in his english voice.

Yeah, it's much more clearly "Ora Ora Ora" in the japanese voice, but it's still nice that they left stuff like that in.

There's plugins available on Kega Fusion's website

Though you have to use the "doubleraw" plugin at 1x window size. It'll also work for Game Gear and Master System games, though you'll have borders.

You could indeed argue that the real system would stretch the 256x224 image to 4:3 but for internet screenshots, that isn't too great.

Oddly enough this is what I thought he said too. :psyduck:

Why would you think he said that?!

I wonder why that German guy thought that, too. Especially since he's German.

Not sure if it's been reported anywhere before, but a couple of years ago I was playing SADX for the gamecube (so I'm not sure if this applies to the original DC version, or even the PC. Probably though.) and discovered a glitch.

During the perfect chaos fight, as soon as it begins, if you head directly backwards from your starting point, eventually you'll hit a building behind you. If you tilt to the right just slightly (Sonic's left) you'll break through the barrier and you're free to roam the outsides of the entire level.
There isn't any real purpose for this, other than to explore empty area until you run out of rings. Unless you're using some sort of infinite rings cheat.

    Still interesting. =P

Speaking of SA, did anyone notice that the bag Amy is carrying at the beginning has Y2-MART written on it?

    At least the DC version.

If I remember correctly, YU2 is a reference to Yuji Naka.

YU2 is Naka's nickname in the Sonic 1 credits.

    Yuji-Mart?

Correct. YU2 was Yuji Naka's nickname within SEGA (Yu Suzuki was "YU1", so to speak).

    EDIT: Half-ninja'd.

Yes, Suzuki had been working there since the middle of the eighties (at least). I wonder if there are more of these references.

  13. One of the random G.U.N. voice-overs in Shadow mentions Yuji Naka.

    I remember that.

"Mister Yuji Naka is all right!"

lol. I just started playing Shadow again recently but I still haven't heard them say it. Last time I played it was in like 2006, and I never did beat the game.

Probably because when I was a kid, I thought in Sonic CD, in WWZ Present (NA) the music was saying "Shit on everything"

My mind was blown when it was just "shiiiiifting." It didn't help either that the Bad Future was brown. :psyduck:

    What?

I thought that was just scat (the singing, not your "shit on everything" theory).

All the hedgehog that's fit to print!

I was dicking around with the Google News archives, and did a search for "Sonic the Hedgehog", and found these old newspapers that mention Sonic 1 coming out.

    <a href="http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=b1ccAAAAIBAJ&sjid=a1IEAAAAIBAJ&pg=4108,1912559&dq=sonic-the-hedgehog&hl=en" target="_blank">1</a> | <a href="http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=-Z8aAAAAIBAJ&sjid=XywEAAAAIBAJ&pg=7078,446678&dq=sonic-the-hedgehog&hl=en" target="_blank">2</a> | <a href="http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=ASkxAAAAIBAJ&sjid=OQcEAAAAIBAJ&pg=3904,4852940&dq=sonic-the-hedgehog&hl=en" target="_blank">3</a>

(The third one's got a full review and everything.)

We're so used to seeing previews in video game magazines and such (things that are intended for people who know the industry, that is. You know, for people who don't think "Press the A Button" is an abuse of English articles =P) that it's sort of funny to see a stodgy newspaper mention Sonic. It's a bit of glimpse into how the "outside world" (shudder) reacted to the Sonic phenomenon.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting.

Unrelated, but something I noticed in the first article:
    Happened.
Took a little longer (depends on your idea of few years), but sadly it happened too ._.
    Happened.

WTF, who actually had common sense? o_O

Those are interesting to read, especially the 'feature length' third article. But its author got the Special Stage concept totally wrong. :P

Same shit happens in modern reviews, aka dude who never realised he had to use level up points on his characters in mass effect and bitched about it in his original review.

At the time that person might have just found a giant ring, hit it and realised he was in a maze and found a red exit in his limited first time or something.
