I guess I'd agree with you if this was just random fanwank. But come on, this has been the implication for decades. I'd be more shocked if they had said that Sonic DOES have a home.

Even in Sonic X (non-canon, I know, but still closely supervised by Sonic Team), he was asked at one point if he would prefer to return to his world or stay in the human world forever, and he answered that either is fine by him, making it clear that he doesn't have any place in particular he holds close to his heart and considers home. All he cares about is having a cool world to explore.

Sonic is a freeloader who sleeps on your couch and raids your fridge and won't take the many hints you keep dropping that it's time for him to move out.

Also, this happened. Not sure what it's about but it's cute:

    We like signs, right?
Have Gens 3DS' Radical Highway signs, because Dimps placed them on walls perpendicular to the player despite being a 2D game so they're pretty hard to see:

The Time Eater one is pretty interesting, I can't really make out what the top line says aside from "Sonic 20 anniversary" but the bottom line I can read as "Try to eat all of Sonic's history from 1991 to 2011"

I know you shouldn't really respond to topics that have been trashed, but it would be remiss not to mention this somewhere
I think the Tokyo Toy Show version of Sonic 1 is effectively a different "product", i.e. the final Sonic 1 isn't directly built off what was shown in 1990. It's a prototype, but not in same sense as other Sonic prototypes we've seen - it's more like a "first attempt", before the project was started again from scratch.

Now sure, bits will have been copied over to the new ROM (and of course the art was used as a basis for the final game), but you've got to question - the above looks like a bespoke Sega logo. Our dumped prototype has a bog-standard Sega logo, as if there was a "default template" for Mega Drive games. Why would they revert to the standard one, especially if there were plans to replace it again?

    https://info.sonicretro.org/File:GMDCollectedWorksConcepts1.png

    Sense makes no.

Because the thing that got me about that hoax is... it's incredibly dull. Like, that demo probably wasn't playable - it was shown to excite people and get them to buy Mega Drives, so why would you waste time showing the most basic Sega logos, complete with slow fade outs and black screens, rather than something big and (literally) flashy.

This is what I've always assumed to be the case. Naka's even called it a "vertical slice", a hastily put together hodgepodge of the very few presentable assets they had, all in an effort to make it seem that the game was way further in development than it actually was.

I got a stupid ass question. Sonicretro credits the one and only Rumero Lubambo as the guitarist for Rouge's theme. Is that really true? If yes, how the heck did they make this happen?

For those who don't know, Rumero Lubambo is a wizard on the guitar. I especially like his Bossa Nova stuff.

    What's going on here?

I agree with this. In fact I went ahead and made a whole timeline of how I believe Sonic 1's development went down

Tangentially, I'd like to know what exactly is the source of this 1990 developer interview with Oshima and Yasuhara. It states "the master ROM was finished today" after they worked "through Golden Week" -- which would then indicate we're talking about a build shown to a magazine around maybe June? Is this the unseen June build? But it refers to the stages by their final name. Could the information here be incorrect, and this interview was simply conducted in 1991?

That interview talks a lot about the game having to be re-done over and over. Mentions things like the special stages, and Sonic having over 100 sprites. I think what they mean by master ROM is rev01. And they were working through June 1991 after the US release, but before the Japanese release.

Looks like it's a combination of frame 1 and 3. With frame 1's legs and ears, frame 3's body and head, although the chest jet uses frame 1's shading. So it should be easy enough to recreate.

While we're here, did I post this

I know I posted some slides from 1993, but these things turn up all the time.

It's just a shame these things are being sold for stupid money. I mean who in the right mind cares other than Sonic/Sega Retro - these people don't even know what they're looking at.

Ooh a genuine set of promotional slides... sent to somebody somewhere at some point in time. Probably separated from the associated documentation.

Take some photos, scan it in, and maybe the experts can give you some actual context. Then you can sit on your so-called mountain of treasure all you want.

The LA and Tokyo sessions were never posted by them. I know because I discovered those back in May 2001 and was sad that they never did.

    I kept checking too.
