I think I mentioned this before on here, but a major clue as to exactly who created the Animation and Ride at AM3 has always been the special thanks that both Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Mie Kumagai quietly received in Sonic Jam's credits. Though not bigger confirmation or anything like some of what Kenneth Ibrahim has been saying about Ride, I guess my suspicions were correct on those?

We already knew Kumagai did her first ever projects for Sega at that 3DCG sub-group in AM3, where she was hired by Mizuguchi and assisted him. Though her Red Bull and Denfaminico interviews don't mention anything about Sonic stuff specifically, it does make it clear she spent a while there directing long-lost things e.g. the entrance video for Yokohama Joypolis and the ride film for an obscure motion simulator featuring the J-Pop band Kome Kome Club, before going into arcade game development proper on titles like Rail Chase 2.

As for the TMS side of things, perhaps someone could drop Ohshima a line about it - he helped to confirm they were involved in the production of Sonic the Animation, after all. Though he's less reachable online Hisao Oguchi might also remember a thing or two, as TMS are briefly mentioned in the Beep MegaDrive piece centred around him and AM3 where it and Ride were first publicly revealed.

Found a couple more here and here. Nice to see them still holding these birthday events at Tokyo Joypolis, I had thought they stopped them after COVID despite continuing to do things for other Sega franchises like Puyo Puyo and Mushiking.

Pretty sure the back view is supposed to be depicting the same design as the front view; it just left his head out for full visibility of his torso's back, and the "moustache" is actually his shoulderpads.

 

I think Shoes Blues is trying to suggest Black Doom's earlier design almost seems to intentionally emulate Eggman's appearance from the back? So I think they're trying to suggest this was an intentional design choice and might have played into the plot somehow early on.

Which honestly does sound cooler if they left Black Doom's identity a bit ambiguous somehow near the start of the game. Sort of play into the idea that Shadow thinks he's assisting Eggman when he's helping Black Doom instead.

 

Yeah that’s what I meant, the front view makes it look like he’s a wearing a mask and from the back it look like it’s removed revealing Eggman. What looks like a mustache is definitely just the feathery things on the shoulders though so the back view head is probably simplified to avoid occurring the upper body.

I believe this was a recent Joyoplis event of some sort? But it reveals that Gerald had 2 sons specifically in the Robotnik family tree.
Also interesting that they used screenshots from Sonic X.

Just to be clear, the text on the blue people says 'son' in Japanese (息子), so this isn't just a case of assuming that 'blue=male'.

 

Interesting. I kind of hope that they don't ever elaborate on Eggman's family tree though, unless maybe if they go the route of putting him firmly in the starring role sometime. But even then that's a hard maybe. I'm really not interested in seeing Eggman's family explored. It's one of those things that doesn't need further explanation, backstory that isn't warranted. Let both Eggman's parents and Maria's parents remain unknown.

 

Well I mean even without the Japanese that could've been inferred from Gerald being connected to a red figure. Unless we want to get into discussions about pregnant Gerald.

 

i thought it would be interesting, maybe for an adventure 3, if eggman had siblings themed around other traditional ramen toppings. Like a Green-Onion-Man and a Fish-Cake-Man.

 

I suppose that's one way to explain the name "Eggman". It could just run in the family.

It could also be inferred that red meant the person was unrelated by blood, while blue meant the person was related. Without the Japanese text to explain for certain, there was no way to be sure that both descendants were sons.

 

... That's the purpose of a family tree. The lines indicate the blood relation, and if 2 parents are connected that's a bit of an issue. I think the only thing you could derive from the colour would be gender.

 

I mean you could use both lines and color to indicate blood relations, but the color would be superfluous.

 

Don't forget this is actually the second time we've had this information relayed to us, assuming this is actual SEGA people giving it out. I think Iizuka said it sometime earlier this year that it was Gerald had two sons exactly.

 

It's uncomfortable for you, but for me it actually makes me quite hopeful. If someone like Gerald can find someone that loves him unconditionally to the point of wanting to conceive a child then that means my chances might not be so slim after all.
