    If I remember correctly, the Mega CD's tile transformation ASIC suffers heavily from bottlenecking, so processing just the floor may already be pushing it to its limits.

    It's a combination of it not being the fastest thing and the amount of tiles needed to be transferred to VRAM after it's done. However, there are examples of the Mega CD rendering whole scenes at an okay frame rate (Batman Returns comes to mind). Though, the fact that the UFOs use different palette lines would be a bit tricky to overcome.

    I wouldn’t look into it that much. All the guy said was that Sega might consider rereleasing or remaking past Sonic games when determining what to do for a new product. Pretty meaningless statement in the grand scheme of things.

    I more mean they now seem to have a direction. They have a classic branch, a modern branch, and the movie branch. Why mix that up now, last time they did that we got Boom.

    Wouldn't make sense for them to say reboots (plural). Probably just gained a slightly different context with translation. If they do mean reboots I assume by reboots they mean in the same way superstars is a reboot of the classic gameplay, perhaps more 2D games but styled after advance/rush are in the pipeline.

    Perhaps this is the wrong place to bring this up, but in Chronicles' data, you can find an unused head for Knuckles meant for dialogue boxes. Unlike other ones, this one was clearly just ripped straight from Sonic X, but I've been unable to find the episode it originates from. I tried looking at stock art too, but none of them appear to be it. I'm not that familiar with X, so maybe someone else maybe able to identify its source.

    The only public instance I've seen is in the files of ancient 4kids flash profiles of the characters. The Amy art is also there, but I don't think that's where the Chronicles devs got it - they might've just gotten Sonic X assets directly.

    I guess I didn't really make my point. There's a finished version of this out there somewhere, and that was used by 4kids for their character profiles. It looks like this in the flash:

    The reason I ignored the actual concept line art is because that's always the assumption because it's the most common resource.

    Huh. When people said Chronicles was using portraits of Sonic X artwork, I always thought they were exaggerating, like it was such a similar style. Didn't realize they meant it so literally.
    Although to be fair, some of those just look like refined versions of concept art from as far back as Adventure, so it still circles back around to being "from the games" in a sense.

    X concept art is a fascinating place, they just have like, advance 2 ending cutscene sketches in there, probably because thats all that was on hand for vanilla at the time, yuekawa material from adventure, redraws from whoever x's art director was, theres even sonic 2 era tails art in there

    The best way to get high res artworks of Sonic X (and that Knuckles portrait) would be for someone to get a hold of the style guide and post the content from the included CD-ROMs. I've seen listings of it floating around the web a few times and even found someone on Twitter who has a copy (they did not reply to my DMs asking about it. sad!), so it's clearly out there somewhere. We just need to find someone willing to share the goods.

    Anyway, I actually managed to archive the Japanese Sonic and the Black Knight script a while back. Debound, proper scans, all that stuff. Hoping to do this with other game scripts that are at large...
