would like to add too that IK is how you get cool little flourishes in other games like Samus putting her free hand onto a wall she's facing in Metroid Dread for instance. a common, but very cool 3D animation tool/technique.
It's a somewhat obscure fact that Sonic Chronicles' Nocturne managed to sneak into Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games on the Wii as the starting point pretty much unnoticed (before all the Penders stuff pretty much cursed anything from it from ever showing up again) but I don't think anyone's ever noted just how similar its assets are to what was used for the CG in the trailers. Stadiums, squashing and snow aside, it seems to be almost exactly the same.

Is Sonic Runners Adventure not showing up in the Google Play Store for anyone else? I know nobody cares about this game lmao but I was thinking about it other the day and the Play Store page brings up a 404 in my browser when I access it in incognito mode (I bought it a year or two ago and the page still loads when I'm signed in to my Google account)
Yes. Runners Adventure is an entirely separate game from the original Runners, developed by Game Loft. It's also entirely offline.
Nope, not showing up on mine. Canadian here. But on the upside... at least we have phip flones to fall back on. Yay?
Welp, that's the end of Sonic Runners (on Android at least, might still be on the App Store) I guess. At least you can play it offline this time I would have posted in the game's thread but I didn't want to necrobump in case it was just a weird glitch on my end and nothing had actually happened.
I see it on iPhone. I’m set to the USA App Store and I can check the Danish one as well later. I do own it so maybe it wouldn’t appear if I didn’t. I’m not sure how delisted apps work on the App Store.
Hey, wanted to share this here. Starting in 2012 and until 2017, Joypolis had showings of Night of the Werehog in 3D. It was unclear if there were any differences outside of the presentation from the one we've all seen. While we do still have the high-quality MOV file for the normal version and the Japanese MP4 from the PSN Store, we've never seen a glimpse of this 3D version. Until now... Also in 2012, the company "thejuice" acquired the rights to the film for licensing out. They included a section about it on their website, but most importantly, also added a watchable copy of it: https://thejuice.com/portfolio/sonic/ It's low-quality and has a watermark, but it's the only copy of the "3D" version that I've seen. It also confirms that there were changes: More slow-mo added to select scenes. Wider view in select shots. New ending animation.
I love that in that particular instance you've screenshotted, "wider view in certain scenes" seemingly equates to "we moved Sonic further away from the camera" - if you look at the background it's in the same position in both shots, only Sonic's position has changed. Personally I prefer the normal version - it looks a lot more dynamic, and may actually have been a better showcase of the 3D effect if it'd just been left as-is for the 3D version...!
Well I think they did it in order to have his entire hand in the shot as having it cut off by the frame would sort of diminish the impact of the 3D. Having part of the hand super close, then a bunch cut off, would probably ruin the effect.
Is the collectible sound in Speed Freaks (Speed Punks in the US) on PS1… Just a pitch-changed version of the sound of collecting Flickies in Sonic 3D Blast?
Kudos to you for reminding me of Speed Freaks! I remember its demo from way back then. I think the "melody" isn't 100% the same. Sonic 3D's goes a bit higher in its scale.
Does anybody know what event is this? Sonic is standing on our favourite barrel. I remember being so happy after figuring out how to get past that barrel – I could dance in the street to Launch Base theme.
