Cool party trick: In the Retro Engine games (1-RE, 2-RE, Mania, 3K-RE) you can use the Insta Shield's temporary invincibility to block an Eggman monitor with excellent timing. This wasn't the case in the original MD 3K, as there it seemingly ignores it and hurts you.
That’s really lovely but he’s looking a little chubby lol. Could just be how he’s posing with the head to one side though.
That's not the first thing that comes to mind, though! Modern Tails: "Put that frog away!!" Classic Tails: "?" Modern Tails: "The big cat... HE will come for you!!"
I've just realized that the wiki has no physical scans or any information on the physical release of Sonic Mania anywhere. Someone please fix.
It doesn't help that there's Sonic Mania +, Sonic Mania, and Sonic Mania + Team Sonic Racing double pack.
The wallrun? I've been doing that for years because I hate going through Twinkle Park I'm pretty sure it was the only way I beat Twinkle Park's time goal too
Some stuff posted on Twitter (There's also the Sonic Dreamcast bundle but just posted the never before seen stuff) Edit: Another cool storyboard from this
Okay, those things were likely mentioned before, but I wanted to illustrate them. First – let's appreciate how pause works in classic Sonic games. There's no "Pause" text on the screen – you just press "Start" and get a wonderful picture. It's quite useful for making screenshots. Second – "Data Select" theme from Sonic 3 starts to sound different after some time, as shown in this video (at 17:07). Third – "Azure Lake" stage initially did not have any lake at all.
I for one didn't know about the data select audio bug or the early AL BG. Do we know what causes the bug? Does it only happen on real hardware?
It's been documented for a long time now. Here's an explanation of why it happens. It's basically just a bad volume change value that accumulates over time. This only happens in Sonic 3 alone. It was fixed in Sonic & Knuckles (and by extension, Sonic 3 & Knuckles).
On the topic of Sonic 3's data select theme, someone posted on Twitter that apparently the final version of the song uses a wrong instrument that makes some sections sound louder than they were originally meant to be https://twitter.com/MDTravisYT/status/1619064503509078016
Hydro City is a wonderful level, full of surprises. During the mini-boss fight you can hear 3 music tracks: Eggman's theme, "Sonic is running out of air" theme, mini-boss music from Sonic & Knuckles. In prototype version, Hydro City's background is completely different. Also, it's the only level where you can place "S" monitor to break and play as Super Sonic... I was playing Sonic 3 prototype, using debug mode and stuff like that. And guess what - after some time of staying underwater, the hedgehog jumps out and Mushroom Valley (Act 2) theme starts playing! This was briefly captured on a video. By the way, big letters and numbers appear in Launch Base (Act 2) at 20:41. Does anybody know where do they come from?
It's also known that the same mistake affects Angel Island Zone - Act 1 in the Sonic 3 November 3 prototype: Contrast how it sounds in the November 3 prototype and in the final game.
On Twitter, RedHotSonic and Rlan pointed out that the covers of some European PAL editions of Mean Bean Machine have a little red mark on Scratch's wing; an error which isn't on other editions of the game with that artwork: https://twitter.com/redhotsonic_RHS/status/1616425755998654466 https://twitter.com/Rlan2/status/1616427866333540352
