There's something else I wanted to mention, which is not Heroes-related but here we go. Nakamura Shun has recently been writing up an excerpt of an old plotline from Forces in this thread. It's actually the same story he read at SegaFes two weeks ago, and you can listen to it here. It starts with Sonic and Buddy (the avatar) descending underground and finding a large door appear in front of them.

I'd translate the thread right now but I don't think it is finished yet. I might come back to this when it's done (unless someone cooler than me manages to translate the story first via the SegaFes broadcast).

Surreal they had Fang, Bean and Bark as a team before the comics.

I wonder if that's why Sega ultimately approved of that decision...

Wow. As soon as I saw the tweets posted elsewhere, I came here to see if it had been discussed, lo and behold- :v:

Interesting how in the Mania Famitsu Interview, Iizuka calls Mighty and Ray "sealed characters" yet we can see they were considered for Heroes. I'm guessing his decision to have them "sealed" came at a later date once Heroes was done and dusted.

I saw that a while back but wasn't really sure what the context was. It wouldn't hurt to translate what there is so far.

Somebody needs to add the Sonic Jam trial prototype to the wiki:
    https://tcrf.net/Proto:Sonic_Jam_(Sega_Saturn)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTCaBeqoJWw
There's even an article on the demo disc on the Sega Retro wiki, but nothing to be found on Sonic Retro as far as I can tell.

Is there even a thread for it? Because I haven't been able to find one. I would think there would be more interest in digging into this prototype and unearthing its secrets, given the game's role as the series' 3d roots.

It should be documented, but this sits right on the Sonic/Sega Retro divide so I don't know what the best course of action is.

This is part of Sega Flash Vol. 5, therefore it should be documented with regards to the Sega Flash Vol. 5 page along with all the other demos. I don't want to set a precedence of only caring about Sonic things on Sega discs.

Gut feeling is we should be using sub-pages, i.e. "Sega Flash Vol.5/Sonic Jam" and then "Sega Flash Vol.5/Sonic Jam/Comparisons", "Sega Flash Vol.5/Sonic Jam/Secrets" etc. ... and maybe those could live in Sonic Retro. But that's messy.

Likewise some demos are the same across multiple demo discs. And this one doesn't have an official name - it's just called "Sonic Jam" with the "demo" bit implied.

"Sonic Jam (PAL demo)" will probably win but it's not great, particularly if an entirely different Sonic Jam PAL demo turns up.

I would just make a Sonic Retro article for the Sonic Jam trial, mention in it that it was distributed in the Sega Flash Vol. 5 disc, and have the two articles link to each other. No need to make it a subpage, keeping it simple is probably the way to go :v:

    Speaking of wiki things:

    Category:Wrong sized screenshots

I've compiled a quick and dirty list of screenshots on the wiki that are the wrong size. Some are false positives, some are clearly miscategorised, but a lot are genuine. Feel free to fix some.

But I'm here for a different reason:

we have a lot of images like these - "screenshots" of objects from 3D Sonic games. This image exists to say "this is what a 1-up looks like in Sonic Adventure 2".

I want to stop calling these "screenshots" and start calling them something different. Now ideally, everything would be replaced with 3D models ripped from the game, but we can't really do that yet because reasons. So the next best thing is to export some big, clean PNGs from a 3D model viewer or something - the same as above, but a higher resolution version properly aligned with the camera and not surrounded by bits of stage. The cleanest and most accurate a 2D version can get.

In preparation for this I am thinking of moving these images to new categories, something along the lines of "Sonic Adventure 2 [3D] renders". I don't want to call them "models" because they're 2D, but it's also getting late on a Tuesday evening and I can't think of anything better.

Is there a better term for 2D images of 3D objects?

    Life.
    Like a "close-up"?
Or were you thinking more proper dictionary definition?

I think "render" is the appropriate term here.

Does anyone have "Sonic Adventure Perfect Guide"? It looks to have names for the enemies/obstacles in Sky Chase.

I own that guide. Haven't really looked through it all that much, though.

Would you be able to scan/photo the Sky Chase Act 1 and Act 2 pages? And it's a bit of a long shot, but it might have names for the enemy planes in IceCap's snowboarding segment too.

I'm having a hard time reading some of these old bugs in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles bug list. I'm trying to split out the Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles bugs, so that this is just a list of bugs exclusive to the locked-on game.

I've done some, but sentences like these aren't easy to decipher:

Spoilers: the video is dead because it was hosted on twitch.

And yes I would like to put all of Neo's documentation on the wiki and do this properly. But I am only one man.

So we all know that Gigalopolis' music was changed in the GG version, and the reasoning behind it was mentioned not too long ago. We also know it's still inside the game's data, and can be played via the sound test. However, it's down a pitch. The pitch modifier was changed between versions for whatever reason, if you wish to fix this error it's really simple. Open up Sonic Chaos in a hex editor, go to offsets $9865, $9869, and $986D and change $F6 to $F7 to fix the pitch issue. I recently found out that whoever added the info to tcrf mentioned it, but was a bit unsure about it so I made a comparison video. (Apologies for the poor editing, my movie editing software sucks ass on my laptop...)

I did look at the Sky Chase section of the SA1 Perfect Guide, and the names for the hazards are nothing special. It's just "Fighter Aircraft A/B", "Artillery Battery" (those red things that shoot spiky bullets), "Naval Mine" (floating things in the second act) and the little claw things in the second act are called "hooks."

The Ice Cap pages also don't mention the enemies for the third act at all, let alone give them names. Considering they pretty much do nothing, I guess the authors of the guide didn't feel the need to dedicate a little explanation section to them.

The most interesting part of the guide is the STORIES section, which has a little "At the end of the battle..." epilogue blurb that adds a little bit more lore, a breakdown of where each characters' story starts and ends called a "Story Correlation Chart" and another two pages' worth of lore called "Inquiry regarding the Chaos Emerald legend". Also there's a section dedicated to some of the concept art.

Thanks! It's useful good to have official names for them, even if they're generic.

^ So this is Fighter Aircraft A.

^ Is this one Fighter Aircraft B?

^ What are these yellow ones?
