I do not like that. Although that might have set an interesting precedent for future Sonic characters. Tails having Sonic like eyes pretty much solidified that style for all future characters. If that wasn't the case though who knows what other designs we'd have seen.
Thanks for the translation! Although has he edited some of that info out of the post? It doesn't seem to be there now (unless I can't see it).
No I mean, the bits about Tails having a favourite car etc, don't seem to be on the page anymore (Unless I am looking in the wrong place).
Well Hedgehogs and Foxes have eyes more resembling those than Sonic and Tails' eyes. They could have just as easily given the Koalas Sonic esq eyes.
Your point being what, exactly? These are the only official Sonic characters not to have any sclera. What the character designs entail based upon the real-world animals is often minimal.
All those comments are still there. He writes out the cars' names in katakana, so of course they aren't noticeable.
Running it through Google Translate, it sounds like there was a tanuki designed for another project but used as a placeholder. Is that accurate? The bit about Tails' hair was interesting. I always liked the off-to-the-side look in the classic Japanese art. It very much followed "Mickey Mouse's ears" rules. Mickey Mouse's ears are always drawn circular, not matter what angle he's viewed from. Classic Tails' three hairs were always on the side of his head furthest away from the viewer and always visible no matter what angle his head is turned. I remember the UK Christmas Cracker toys having the "side hair". Some slightly more recent merchandise has it too. You need to click "Keep reading" to view the full commentary.
I edited and fixed the picture for you. I removed his second Tail and fixed his eyes. This is probably similar to how he probably might have looked in his early concept art according to what Yasushi Yamaguchi (Judy Totoya) described. I really wish we could have seen actual concept art for Tails and Knuckles. We really don't have any early art of them like we do with Sonic and Dr. Eggman.
