^But that makes no sense. Shadow's original name was Terios based off of the fact that Shadow was the counter to Sonic in the game. The name Shadow was derived from that.
Well maybe it refered to her eye shadow. The name Rouge refers to makeup so it wouldn't be completely unreasonable. Then they later felt the name was better suited for, well, shadow.
He definitely said it, though. Terios presumably took the name Shadow, and then they just came up with a new one for Rouge.
Rouge is a bat, a spy and a treasure hunter. She's all about stealth and being sneaky (in SA2, at least). The name "Shadow" would have suited her fine. Cool little insight there though.
I really got a kick out of the wonky physics at 8:12, here: Despite having horizontal speed from the spring, Sonic still came to a dead stop upon hitting the ground, presumably because the game kept him in a "damaged" state until then.
So. A good decade and a bit ago I stumbled upon this VHS tape which must have came out at some point in 1993. The tape was called Mean Machines Sega 101 Turbo Tips. Now while I don't if this came with the magazine or sold as a separate product. I do know that this had an awesome intro which involved glorious 90's CGI. Why is this important? Because it shows a very choppy looking 3D Green Hill-esque area with a 3D Robotnik! I recommend watching it from the start to see another couple of neat areas including a CGI Ecco the Dolphin too but if you're impatient then skip to 3:18 to see Sonic. First feature is Sonic 2 as well! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zYXfoPDIvE&app=desktop
Does anyone know where the E-Series numbers for Sonic Adventure 1 and 2's standard badniks came from? I've seen them all over wikis, but don't remember them being in the manuals or guides. http://info.sonicretro.org/E-Series_Robots
I know Sonic 06 being 10 is on more people's minds at the moment, but Sonic Unleashed is actually 8 years old now. That game still looks absolutely gorgeous. Too bad the systems at the time couldn't handle it's graphics engine to save their lives.
I started playing through Unleashed again a couple days ago, still looks as good as ever. It's a truly impressive game. There's so much effort pumped into just about every aspect of it that most of the entries since have felt like a step back to me. I've always felt like the hub worlds were just fleshed out enough that Sonic has been given a vast living, breathing world to explore, without it feeling too bloated, especially since the NPCs have their own personalities and stories that you can follow throughout the adventure. It's really too bad that so many critics complained about everything outside of the daytime levels, because we'll likely never see Sonic in such an extravagant title ever again. The team was incredibly passionate about the project, and it really shows.
Usually the naming of things comes from Japanese game guides, but yes it would be nice to have references.
Happy, uh.... birthday, I guess? EDIT: Just to be clear, this date comes from Hidden Palace's writeup about SEGA's Final ROM Archive.
Are there scans of the strategy guides online? I could swear that I've seen them posted on forums before, but with no e-numbers. At the very least, does anyone know where "Baby Kiki" comes from? http://info.sonicretro.org/E-01_Baby_Kiki In the manuals (Japanese, North American AND European) it's just plain "Kiki". Where did the idea that it's "Baby Kiki" in SA1 and "Kiki" in SA2 come from? http://info.sonicretro.org/index.php?title=File:SonicAdventure_DC_JP_manual.pdf&page=33 http://info.sonicretro.org/index.php?title=File:SonicAdventure_DC_US_manual.pdf&page=33 http://info.sonicretro.org/index.php?title=File:SonicAdventure_DC_EU_manual.pdf&page=38 Another oddity on the wiki's E-Series entry is: Where did THAT come from? "Spiky Spinner" is Sonic Adventure's American name for "Unidus". (Seemingly because Sega of America failed to realise that they'd already given Unidus the name "Orbinaut" in Sonic 1.)
If there were they'd be on the wiki. I don't actually think these enemy pages should be prefixed with these "E-numbers" anyway as these aren't their most common names (e.g. "Rhinotank" instead of "E-02 Rhinotank"). Though if these code names can't be proven they should be removed entirely. Truth be told some of these pages on Sonic Retro are a decade old and were written before any semblance of standards or consistency. It could be fan fiction for all we know - I fully endorse someone stepping in and re-writing all this noise en masse.
Want some cheap Nintendo Thanksgiving Sanic? http://segabits.com/blog/2016/11/23/sonic-25th-anniversary-eshop-sale-now-live-for-3ds-and-wii-u/ Got like 6 days to pick up some pretty good Sonic discounts. Oddly with the sales, 3D Sonic 1/2 are now cheaper than GG Sonic 1/2.
JmTsHaW posted a video detailing a bunch of unused animations from Sonic Adventure. http://youtu.be/att8P1s6AyA
