When you're free to, might you be able to post a link to the scans? I know of a site with only 2 of the magazines scanned.

 

My mistake! Issue 4 ain't online, think I just saw some scans of the SoR3 material somewhere online (I remember that one anyway)

That'll be that other task that's been sitting on the back-burner for months - taking the higher resolution versions of everything useful on that site, putting them in PDFs and mirroring them on Sega Retro.

I don't have much patience with chunky 250MB+ downloads.



(Although trends seem to suggest I'll have to find some, since few people are ever willing to take the plunge).

 

Did he respond back yet? I'm very interested in seeing more about S3 Beta, and this seller may be our only hope.

 

I have the mini mag, it's rather big so I'd have to scan it in bits and pieces heh.

 

Could you locate and scan in the Launch Base Zone image first, please? I'm most curious about it.

 

A bit late, but good catch:

The same shading style can still be seen in the Competition menu texts, and a similar style is used on the on the lives counter.

I remember a later issue of Sega Magazine having a feature highlighting features that were removed from various games, I have seen the Sonic bit online before - showing the ball and the victory jump.

EDIT: As GagaMan is gonna scan the images and the seller hasn't got back to me, I'm probably not gonna follow up on it. However I have bought a Sega Power mag from Summer 93 where several game developers reveal how they would make Sonic 3 if given the opportunity. It's all tongue-in-cheek but should make an amusing read.

Thank you for the scan, GagaMan. I look forward to seeing more scans from your mini-mag to see what tidbits from the BETA can be discerned. Any extra images of BETA Hydrocity Zone in that, perchance?

 

Yeah there are quite a few Hydro City screens, many with that different background. Also Sonic running down the start of Ice cap instead of snowboarding.

Also I have every issue of Official Sega Mag if there is anything else in particular anyone wants scans of in them. I know one or two of them have super early screens of Daytona USA in them.

 

Quite good, thank you very much GagaMan. Might I see the Hydrocity Zone BETA screens please? And can you see any other notable different Zones in the mini-mag? I'd imagine might have a bit more significant difference.

I have to wonder why Hydrocity was changed, since most others look quite close to the final build. Also, what's going on with what I assume to be the Death Eggs palette?

Excellent GagaMan! Good to see this stuff again

The August 1993 issue of Sega Power I ordered arrived today, There is a Sonic CD article but nothing we haven't seen before. However there is a Sonic Chaos proto screenshot I haven't seen anywhere online. The feature on how various British developers would do if they were asked to make Sonic 3 is pretty amusing, one of the guys from the Bitmap Bros even mocked up a scene from his take on it!

Possibly the most interesting thing are some Virtua Racing Megadrive proto screenshots. Looks quite different from the final.
