Damn, that's it: that would fit the time the game I made was done, too. Thanks for solving that :D
EDIT: how come sonic games didn't get epic music like that all the time? I love the music in Sonic CD and other sonic games but damn, why give that to 3D blast of all games?

Because Richard Jacques is just that awesome. He took inspiration for the S3D soundtrack from CD, so that would probably explain some similarities. Specifically when it comes to the boss theme and laughter.

I'm just more amused by the fact it becomes a legit move when you pair those two up in later games =P

Sonic CD: Haha, never came across that. Nice find.
Chaotix: Seeing that brings up distant but vaguely familar feelings of dread and confusion, so I'm pretty sure I've experienced that when I was young. Also a nice find.

Oddly enough, I'm not sure if I've played slightly more of Sonic CD or Chaotix over my lifetime - when I play either of them nowadays I still am rather unfamiliar with them, compared to S1-S&K. I did have a 32X as a kid, I think when it came out (that fried my Genesis resulting in replacement, while a friend also had one and was left unscathed). I must've gotten CD a few years later in the late '90s on PC, and still had hell trying to get it to run.

Hell, these games play a perfect example of how pure nostalgia fuels our feelings: I'm really not fond of the jump sound effect used in Sonic CD... I don't quite hate it, but I find it incredibly irritating -- even though I'm pretty much fine with it in Chaotix. If that ain't back-asswards, eh? :v:

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.

'Door into Summer' is a lovely title. Apparently it's the name given a phenomenon where a cat, upon seeing rainy weather outside through a door, will try another door to see if that one is fair weather instead; and this inspired a sci-fi novel of the same title.

Just a little trivia with which you can impress and 'pick up' all the chicks. ALL OF THEM.

Interesting explanation (although did that meaning exist before said author's wife said it and thereby inspired him?), but jeeeeeez, does that song always have such omnipresent and obnoxious cymbals? If so (I.e. it's not an emulator quirk), I guess I'll stick to the remix in S2RR.

  11. Thanks for ruining the song for me. I never noticed until I read your post :|

Darn, now it's two of us! I didn't remember that (the constant crash in the later sections) from before, either. Hey, we can just tell ourselves our hearing's improving, as a consolation. :v:

Back in its heyday, Gens was the only emulator capable of running 32X games at a good speed, so everybody ended up playing Chaotix on it for their first time. However, the sound emulation in Gens was innacurate (the PWM drum volumes were ridiculously low, almost inaudible) and everybody got used to hearing the songs like that. With the advent of Fusion and its higher accuracy relative to the original hardware, the same people (myself included) are now hearing the songs as they're actually supposed to sound, and they feel a bit "wrong" because they don't match our earliest memory of them.

  14. This song is my favorite from Chaotix.

If you want to make your own version without the loud cymbal crashes, I used SMPS2MID to produce this: Door Into Summer.mid

Ok, so we all know Sonic Genesis is a piece of shit, but the other day I was playing it (don't ask me why), and discovered something. They didn't bother programming in this shortcut. If you hit the switch and manage to make it back up, the platform doesn't appear. It makes me wonder what other little things they were oblivious to.

Funny I never noticed this topic before. I love obscure shit in sonic games.

Anyways, I don't know if this has ever been found but I was told to post it here and see.

I looked around on several wikis (including here) and searched the topics here (including this one) and I got nothing in my results. So hopefully I'm not derping myself here.

I was playing sonic pinball party the other day to check off the "obscure sonic games I completed" list and I was in the X-zone. I noticed something strange with the egg carrier in this zone:

I'll blow that up for you:

I had that weird "where have I seen that before?" moment and it kind of nagged me. I was racking my brain over it for a good hour but I went back to playing after some lunch...and then it hit me!

    http://info.sonicretro.org/images/1/17/SaconEggCarrier_02.jpg

It was the concept art egg carrier!! I remember looking at these concept arts along time ago on CulT. I found it soo neat that they re-used an old concept like that without anyone knowing the wiser. its even got alittle deck like the final version egg carrier had.

But I got a question now. since SPP is level based off of SADV1, does that mean that X-Zone was an egg carrier?!

Eh, all you can so is speculate about X Zone being an Egg Carrier. There's no proper proof to actually support it. Regardless though, that's an excellent little discovery there.

Well you see every zone had some sort of stage trope to defeat if you wanted to swtich characters and they all were based off of SADV1 locales. Neo green hill had its palmtrees, Secret Base had a furnest, Casino Paradise had a CASINO sign etc. etc. when you got to X-Zone it was the proto-egg carrier. and The Moon final stage was the final boss.

    So it is debateable.

I have never gotten past the first Sonic table in SPP. I always played the NiGHTS tables.
