yeah there's a bunch of games after shadow the hedgehog that included shadow. he didn't really fuck off until like... uh, did he ever stop appearing in anything? mainline games aside because obviously he skipped out on unleashed, colors wii, and lost world

Fair enough, but X is a lot more than just an adaptation of the Adventure games, it's a 78 episode series that was clearly written with the idea of being a new universe. Episode 26 for example implies that was the first time the Emeralds were gathered and Sonic turned Super, which couldn't have happened in the same continuity as the classic games. Admittedly, Sonic is not the most consistent franchise out there, IDW and Prime are canon by word of god even though they're somewhat inconsistent with the games, so that's a moot point.

Regardless, I think Sonic Team is just proud of X, which is why we keep seeing references to it with things like Cosmo's plant in official art and Sonic Channel's multiple mentions of the show, yet no actual character or exclusive storyline from the show ever get referenced in-universe, particularly when Frontiers contains mentions of almost all of Sonic's previous games just to definitely establish them as part of the same continuity. Then you have Ian Flynn saying that a bunch of games that aren't reference in Frontiers are now canon, so again, moot point. I just think there wasn't any more thought put into this list than "Is Shadow in this?" and whatever it is that they left out was just forgotten by the one who put it together

So, NIDS is 先天性免疫不全症候群 in Japanese, meaning Primary/Hereditary/Congenital Immunodeficiency Syndrome. If you isolate 先天性, you get Native, so NIDS isn't actually Neuro Immunodeficiency Syndrome like the translation put it, but Native Immunodeficiency Syndrome.

Rather than something regarding her lack of immune system affecting her nervous system somehow, it's more likely akin to SCID where Maria simply never had an immune system and has had to be isolated constantly. Like this:

    Ah the fun of translations...

No one seems to be posting here, so I'll just post and if the mods say to merge the posts, I'll merge the posts.

Reviving an older conversation, I was messing around with Blender and creating the old Chaos Emerald designs from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Mega Drive), while making sure to use their colours from the game directly. Turns out, the purple turns a sort of dark blue and the magenta turns a purple. You can still see hints of the purple on the blue, but it's an interesting aspect of their design, especially since they're the two with the biggest changes in appearance from it.

EDIT: to clarify, the reason it's here is due to an earlier discussion about the Chaos Emeralds changing colour in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Mega Drive), a continuity lapse between the three original games, but as can be seen here does end up strangely matching the 'actual' Chaos Emeralds' colour scheme

And to confirm, here's the Blender viewport showing the colour of the Emeralds shading:

So…Sonic X Shadow Generations has an online manual. And in that online manual:

    Let the face peeling begin.
+ - In all likelihood, whoever wrote this probably just didn’t get the memo, I don’t think we’re returning to the dark times, especially with classic Tails explicitly calling the modern counterparts older version in SXSG.

Nah, Ian Flynn's trying to establish that time is a dimension in the rewrites, which it is, so...

You see it later, with Robotnik commenting on the Time Eater:

Well, time is a dimension. It's another axis in which we experience a 3D world, or rather a 4D world. The way we move left, right, up, down, forwards, and backwards, we also move through time. So it's not alternate dimension shenanigans, the online manual is just incorrect.

Apparently it was a translation issue.

  10. TailsTube #4 already settled this by defining time as a dimension and this aligns with that fine.

It seems like that was just future-proofing any time they say "another dimension" because they knew this was going to keep happening. They could just say "past" whenever but they clearly aren't coordinated so they invented a complicated way to tell twitter users to shut the fuck up

Someone had already pointed that out and this was the response from someone in the lore team.

"Time is a dimension, see?" is some cope I've been using since Forces, and it would be funny to see that become the official bandaid for it.

Bit of a necropost, but this seems like the most relevant thread to post the following:
Future Sonic related questions on the BumbleKast, the podcast cohosted by Ian Flynn, will now be vetted by SEGA.

I imagine it’s so SEGA can avoid snafus of people running with Ian’s personal headcanons on things and spreading them as gospel. On the other hand, this does to an extent give more legitimacy to answers Ian does provide to questions pertinent to lore and continuity. I’m sure there will only be normal and reasonable responses to this development.

My first thought is this means Ian is right now working with SEGA on the next Sonic game.

Shadow Generations set the bar so high, I am excite about what we'll see next year.

That's fucking lame. No more Archie questions then, it seems.

But yeah, this does imply that he could be working on something big, as BumbleKast previously had a "No Frontiers questions" -rule during 2022 before the game's release.

I would like to think it won't touch Archie questions - it's not like BumbleKast is SEGA-endorsed or anything, I think they're still keeping the whole thing at an arm's length and probably just telling Ian what questions he can and can't answer. I could see them turning a blind eye to anything Archie.
