    I've always done that too.

In my case that was because Sonic 1's manual establishes Sonic and Eggman had some fights before, and SegaSonic is the game in which Sonic looks the most vulnerable. It would make sense if this Sonic is prior to Sonic 1.

It's also why I put it with Sonic Labyrinth, the vulnerability.

But it's not the same. In Labyrinth Eggman did something (stupid) to make Sonic vulnerable. In SegaSonic he was just attacking him as he always do, and for some reason succeeding.

He's succeeded several times. He's shot Sonic, gassed Sonic, etc, it's hardly a new thing that Robotnik gets the drop on Sonic sometimes.

I know. What I meant is, of all the candidates of a prequel to Sonic 1, SegaSonic was the best viable option. But if Sonic 1's manual had never said there had been some fights before, nobody would be sad thinking SegaSonic has no place in the timeline.

Fair enough. It also helps that none of the robots pop out animals, which Robotnik only started doing on South Island.

  7. Honestly, SegaSonic and maybe if on the timeline the GameGear Sonic 1 were the two I thought might fall into the pre-Sonic category. Especially with the animal power source thing being brought up for SegaSonic. Of course, with some of the character art for the Shogakukan manga for Sonic coming from Sega themselves I really had started to wonder if they considered some variant of that kind of idea (without split identities or everything related) being this nebulous early awareness of each other.

Around the 2000s they decided that all the suplementary classic games were non-canon.
In 2005 they defined Blaze and Eggman Nega as characters from another dimension.
In 2006 they decided that Blaze and Eggman Nega were from the future.
In 2010 they decided that Sonic lives in two planets.
In 2011 they decided that Sonic CD takes place between 3 and 4.
Also in 2011 they defined Classic Sonic as the past of Modern Sonic.
In 2012 they decided now that Blaze is from another dimension, but Eggman Nega is from the future.
In 2017 they decided that Classic Sonic was (and has always been) from another dimension instead of the past.
In 2021 they decided now that Sonic CD takes place between 1 and 2.
In 2022 they got rid of the two planets and now Sonic lives in one world.
Also in 2022 they surprisingly brought back the suplementary classic games to canon.

I mean, it's hard to keep track.

In 2065 it's confirmed Super Mario takes place on South Island 500 years into the future with its native inhabitants relocated

Which is also why I decided to future proof and just put all the games into my timeline, bar the two with obvious cartoon heritage, so any one of them being advised as canon could just be put into place.

Of course, I wasn't expecting them to just start making stuff up for these things, which considering Iizuka's track record was incredibly stupid of me...

    My headcanon:
    - that manga, where Sonic sings with his band and Robotnik shows up for the first time
    - segaSonic
    - classic quadrilogy

The manga was clearly intended as starting point back in the day, used the earliest elements of the lore, and in SegaSonic, Robotnik knows Sonic's name, implying that they have met before.

What manga, if I may ask?
I think I remember seeing such a thing...

  13. The Raphael list generalizes, but it was 2002-2003 where the Chaotix were retconned pretty specifically and it seems to be when a lot of decisions were being considered. When the other classic characters which were in planning like the near canon Team Hooligan were excised is almost certainly when changes were made specifically. Whenever that was in the development timeline, probably pretty early.

I'd even postulate the fact Heroes was more akin to the classic Sonic titles in some aesthetic and with Sonic X running with a lot of Sonic Team oversight that this might be when Two-Worlds could have first been floated as being used in the games. Forces was supposedly the second world back at the time that it was launched and I'm pretty sure they name dropped a Sonic Heroes level so Heroes - Colors - Forces (With Sonic 1 & 2 levels) all kinda rounding out that world with Sonic 4 and CD linking everything there too. Kinda glad they undid the concept, but I'm also worried if they'd gone out of their way to show the way between worlds they'd always referenced they'd probably have held fast. Also, in Sonic Riders weren't there extra Moons on one track? I know they explained away the moon damage, but was this ever explained?

    EDIT: RDNexus. Here ya go.

Will find the translated version later. Also, think this was missing the third volume.
Looks like a wiki will come through.

At least for the first chapter. Wish the PortalSonic site never closed.

Yes, actually: one of the Sonic Channel stories confirmed that the ARK sometimes appears as a second moon sometimes during its orbit, due to the backside.

  15. Okay. Thanks. That actually would fit. Also. I'd like to point out that when reading the Sonic Channel Calender stories I noticed a couple of things up with Vector. It did reference the events of Chaotix, and even mentioned that it took place on "The Island of Trajectories" I think it worked out to be. Would Trajectory Island be the nomenclature to go with on this?

Edit Again: Quoting from the translated Sonic 1 manual here on Retro.
"They'll all do what I tell them to. In other words, the whole island is your enemy. Hahahahaha... cough cough. This time, the whole world will be mine."

I find it interesting that an entire scene in Sonic Generations was essentially just hypocracy. Lol.

I don't think the island in Chaotix actually got a name beyond the Newtronic Zone and Isolated Island. So I guess Trajectoy Island is the best we've got then.

Well, I guess that confirms Chaotix as having happened now. The fun of this series.

Sonic News Network alleges that the island is called Carnival Island in the US instruction manual and the Island of Miracles in the JP manual. My copy of Encyclo-speed-ia is still shrink wrapped (want to finish another book first but I don't read as much as I ought to lol), so I can't tell you what the word is in that.

That's from Vector's profile, and more to do with it's sudden, 'miraculous' rise from the ocean.
I don't think it's otherwise named in the Japanese, but I don't have the full manual translated to wager that.

  19. I'd never seen any specific name crop up in any translations either. With just the side Island getting a name. Thought it was weird.
    このタイトルでは、ソニックと言うよりはナックルズとの共闘が描かれ、独特の「リングパワー」を使ったバンジーアクションで「軌跡の島」を縦横無尽に駆け抜けました。
The quoted part 軌跡の島 comes out of Google as Trajectory Island. And since it say running through the island with Bungie Power it's definitely the right Island they're talking about. So Newtrogic High is something on it and the "Island of Miracles" thing is an epithet.

Edit: And prior to TailsTube, I kinda thought this story and all of the other Continuity nods had to basically just be its own canon. How wrong I was, and that they were Shadow retconning things back to the olden days. Thinking about it, I wonder if the writer in working on these stories may have talked some sense into whoever in Sonic Team runs whatever their equivalent of a story Bible is.

Is no one going to mention the fact Vector believes in God.
