I'm a little confused as to why the reticule in that shot is aiming at the monitor behind a wall, not Bubbles which is right in front of Sonic.

I think it's because, relatively as Sonic approaches the spring he bounced off of, that the monitor is closer than bubbles is and he locked on to the monitor first despite it being behind a wall. Which worries me a little.

Wow, that's crazy; I don't get how the homing attack's working if it can sometimes target things that are further away from Sonic as opposed to what's right in front of his face. I could see that potentially being a bit problematic in some situations. I don't recall noticing that when I played it at SoS though (but then again, I don't recall actually using the homing attack at all so I don't think I payed too much attention to what was being targeted...).

It's interesting that the reviewer says that the "physics feel a bit off, the music isn't as catchy, and it lacks the charm of Sonic's pot-bellied days". So, it's not just us die-hard classic fans who are picking these faults with the game after all; if more reviewers (and other people aside from us) say these things too, then I sincerely hope these things wil be addressed in Episode 2 (because, as we've said all along, they're clearly valid complaints and not things that just a group of people online are moaning about it) - even if just the physics! I enjoyed what I played at SoS to an extent, but it could (and, indeed, should) have been so much better.

£10 for a incomplete game with crap physics! Well Sonic the hedgehog (XBOX 360) cost me like £40, so I have no big problem with it.

$15? I was really hoping it'd be $10 at the most! This is actually kinda making me more iffy on the game than the game itself.

£10 does seem really steep for what it is; by the time all the Episodes are out (isn't it rumoured to be around 4 Episodes? 4 Episodes, £10 each...) you're gonna be looking at paying the same amount (if not more than) a physical retail release rather than a downloadable release. Which is fine, were this an physical retail release; I'm a bit pedantic about stuff like this, if I pay £40 for a game I expect a nice box, instruction manual etc, not something which is gonna just sit on a hard drive.

Having said that though, aren't there set price ranges for Wii Ware/Live/PSN games? That could explain why it seems so expensive, if other downloadable games are the same price; even though you're technically getting the full game with other downloadable releases for that price.

Uh, this is also for Nintendo Power, and since when was Nintendo Power EVER the majority opinion on Sonic reviews? That's right. Never to occasionally. I wouldn't take this as the reviewers don't care about the issues we argue about because they're legitimate complaints. If the music isn't up to par, if the physics are offsetting it won't play as we wanted it to.... From what I see, this is just another Nintendo Power review being hopelessly optimistic on a Sonic title. If more reviewers like the game then they like the game. I'll try it out no matter what, but I doubt I'll like it.

The homing attack thing is simple. Sonic can't hit something with the homing attack until he is above it. Since he is above the monitor, it's letting him target it, but he hasn't reached the height of the bubbles yet, so he can't use the homing attack.

And that preview said that although those things are different, it's still a great platforming game and is worthy of the 4 in the title. So they have the same complaints, they just don't care because it's still a good game.

It looks like that screenshot was just taken at an extremely bad time: as you can see, Sonic is currently shooting upward off a steam vent. He passed within the range of the monitor first, and is JUST NOW passing within range of Bubbles. The screen just happens to have been taken right before the targeting reticule would switch over to Bubbles.

@Solaris Paradox: I hate your sig pic, but I do admit it's quite funny. Good work.

So, yeah, what we're seeing now with all these previews is the episodic format working its magic. First one's not good enough? Make the necessary changes for the next game, or it'll get stale faster. Considering the amount of devotion and community involvement RubyEclipse and his team have shown, it's unlikely that all these valid complaints will go unheard and unattended. Not that I give a shit anymore, but I just thought I'd point out that all is going according to plan as far as SEGA's concerned. And hey, Episode 1 is shaping up to be a pretty good game in spite of our incessantly valid criticisms, so even at a $15 price tag, I'll buy it.

I would like to pay $10 for it, but then I've got the extra $5 lying around, so what the hell. I think it'd be in SEGA's best interest to dock the price down to $10 though; there are few games priced about 1,000 Wii points.

A friend on the SEGA forums was making PS3 parody sigs, so I came up with some text and requested one. He worked the magic, I just wrote the joke. :)

Pretty much this. I just hope things move forward from here, rather than staying where they are or (God forbid) stopping outright dead where they stand.

Until I have a job, there's no way in hell I'm blowing $15 on just one episode of this mediocre looking game. $10 would be a different story.

+ - I can't rule out the possibility of me just impulsively buying it though. It's happened before.

    $15?!? What.

Well I'm going to buy this game regardless but that price makes me sad.

Could end up being another in a long line of 1000+ Point Wiiware titles that are spectacular. World of Goo, Cave Story...

The thing is, though, he IS spot on with his entire review. It's a game that though while not matching up to it's predecessors IS a decent enough title. I won't be picking it up due to my usual DLC stance but I WILL be watching the sales fallout with interest.

God it is SO tempting to sig that.

Sig'd it over on the SEGA forums.

    But anyway, about Sonic 4:

    "Sales fallout?"
