Since when did you expect Dimps to be original with their final bosses?

Oh, a boss run? They couldn't possibly reuse that idea! Dimps is too original!

I'm personally a huge fan of Boss runs, so I'd have no problem with a Boss Run mode.

    everything

A boss run mode that is, a boss attack mode you select from the title screen menu. Dimps have that option in their sonic games, but either way, you are forced to fight the bosses all over again. Oh yeah, that's SOOO original.

    Edit: Grammar.

The difference being, YU2 was working on a 68000 processor, and (maybe) decided an approximation was better than doing any actual trigonometry. And I was describing how it should be - notice I never said the classics actually worked like that.

And that's how it should stay, hopefully.

That's not a fair argument, since those aren't the final bosses.

When have Sonic games beside Sonic 3 had good stories? Sonic 1 & 2 were esscentially "Robotnik kidnapped Sonic's friends, kick his ass" with Sonic 3 simply bringing back the final level of Sonic 2 and making it an important plot point. The story in this sounds about on par with Sonic 1 and 2's story.

Oh, what, boss runs are bad? They always worked in Mega Man, and I rather liked the execution in Sonic Advance 2—one of the few things I can say I loved about the game.

You know, this thread is feeling like an exercise in futility. It's one thing to offer suggestions about uncurling, speed boosters, and general aspects about level design, but it's another thing to buy into pissing all over it with the constant critiques and restatements on a whim. I'm guilty of all of that, and right now I'm just not feeling it right now. I can hardly imagine complaining about DKC Returns, and I've gotten sick about complaining about Sonic already.

    Oh no! Boss runs!

    Boss Blitz galaxy says hai.

But who knows, maybe they'll change E.G.G station zone.

You're not seeing the problem here apparently. The final boss is even rehashed. If you had watched the leaks, you would know that all of the bosses are stolen straight from the Classics with the Lost Labyrinth one from going Labyrinth Zone into some other form that is different in a way.

The thing is, Sonic 4 is lacking in all things original. This a game I played 17 years ago that had better physics, level design, and all that good stuff but now it's a mockery of those fantastic games I played that many a time ago. One of the main complaints is certainly valid. There's not a whole not of original material here. The Blackjack cards were unexpected though.

The reason we aren't bitching about Donkey Kong Country Returns is because it not only has original content, it plays fantastically and in the original formula that worked well for Donkey Kong Country games past.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
It's not entirely fair to stop at "rehashed." Strictly speaking, the only boss without notable alterations to its general behavior is the Splash Hill Boss. The only unique thing about that one is its extremely short-lived pinch mode. (I'd love to go into detail on that point, but I don't want to discuss spoilers that might get me suspended again. :ssh: ) It's true that they take a lot from past bosses, but it's also true that most of them do their own thing sufficiently enough to be their own bosses. The final boss is actually the strongest example. It looks like a certain boss from ages past, but its actions are completely different.

In Sonic 3's defense, Sonic 4 is pretty much all rehashed bosses with very little originality, if any at all. But those complaining about Sonic Advance having an "omg boss rush mode boss batlleeee faillll" are extremely hypocritical because Sonic 3 did the exact same thing.

    Megaman invented Boss Rushes?

Someone should have told Sega that back in 1985.

You see, this I agree with. The Boss Rush wouldn't have been so bad in Sonic 4: Episode 1 if this entire game hadn't been rehashed out the ass. How are you guys able to stand this? Sonic 4 is a sequel thus meaning it must have NEW content, something it lacks severely in the first episode. Prequel or not, they should have displayed more original content in this release.

    EDIT: There, happy now?

Wait, you know all the bosses in Sonic 4?

    WOW!

Please, tell me what the first boss in Episode 2 is. I've been dying to know.

I can stand E1 being full of rehashes as it seems to be intentionally designed as a major nostalgia trip, but future episodes need to be far more original. The bad part right now is that it's rehashing everything with very low production values.
