On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
It has. That harsher lighting—which at first we assumed was just for the torch act—appears everywhere.

Honestly can't say how I feel about that until I see it in proper action, but I liked the way the shading looked before.

I cant really tell how harsh it is, I don't this it's as harsh. I just don't think its fits with the wide spead sunlight of splash hill.

Okay, just watched that video now, here's a few issues:

    - Wasn't the music supposed to be slightly different, like the menu screen? That's still the same dying cat version from the PartnerNet leak.
    - Why the fuck have they added that annoying beep sound for the homing attack? That's just annoying, isn't even from the classic games either.

Wouldn't mind an answer about this, Ruby. Is this an older build before the Wii demo's changes or something? I do approve of the new loading method, although the title card animation doesn't seem to run smooth.

  5. I've deliberately avoided Sonic 4 (and ESPECIALLY this thread) for months now, but with the game approaching I decided to hop into the fray.

My only reaction is ... dear God. What the hell is this? The level design looks very janky and poorly spaced, there are boosters everywhere, and the homing attack is practically a requirement. UGH.

This was the soul reason I never thought Emeralds were important in Sonic 1. I thought the point of special stages back in the day was to just get extra rings and the emeralds just gave extra points instead of giving a "good" ending.

You are so late to the party it's not even funny.

I like the last video posted, looks fun. Although I don't like the ping sound the homing attack makes now, or the uncurling.

Anyone who still insists the Homing Attack is "practically a requirement" clearly hasn't read this:

    I still stand by that.

It's there in a popup after you beat the final stage. It also tells you how to do it.

  11. Homing attack: a requirement? No. Bad game design? Absolutely.

For those tricky sections in 3D Sonic games, I think the homing attack was a good idea. It works for 3D, yes, but not for 2D. First off, it's completely unnecessary. Sonic can jump to any part of the screen easily by aiming and jumping there. There's no need to design the gameplay around it; can you possibly imagine how much time the programmers spent trying to make sure the homing attack wasn't abused (the cause for the delay, j.k.)? Second, it makes everything way to easy. Want to get to that spring? What? I have to actually walk over there and jump on it? No way! It's too hard! Seriously, we aren't 2 years old (I think we can all agree there are too many boosters and auto-play type sections, so that's why I bring up the difficulty).

Are we seriously talking about the motherfucking homing attack again? God fucking dammit. Just lock the topic until a huge amount of new information comes in and sticky this already. Most people who blab about this shit don't even go to #retro or only idle in #retro anyway, so it's not like a crapflood of discussion about this fucking move is going to spring up. And if it does give #retro hell because of my suggestion, feel free to give me three days off.

Moving away from the homing attack... I can't wait to see if there are any little aesthetic changes to stages other than Splash Hill. For some reason they felt the need to make the sunflowers not only get pushed by the wind as Sonic runs by, but also make them dance. That is the most minor thing ever, and it's bloody awesome.

Are you surprised? It's a new move that the Genesis Sonic games (excluding Sonic 3D Blast) didn't have, and it's just simply in the game -- it's going to be talked about. Just like the artwork, the physics, the items, the music, etc. are all going to be talked about. Even when the game releases, it's still going to be talked about. Of course, administration can forbidden the word "homing attack" from ever being said upon the thread, but anywhere else, it's still going to be talked about.

  15. will it be possible, on a chain of enemies, to homing attack the first guy, then air dash into a ball and bounce on the rest to build up speed?

Not easily, because you're too close to air dash most of the time. And you can't bounce from enemy to enemy like you used to. You'll only ever bounce a small amount over the enemy rather than to the height you fell from.

Who said you can't bounce from enemy to enemy like you used to? I've seen people do it in previous videos to get to higher routes without the homing attack.

Watch this video. See how Sonic bounces back up to the height he was at before falling? You can't do that in S4. You'll only ever be bounced a small amount above the object you hit regardless of if you keep a hold of A or not.

Hardly a criminal offence or whatever, but it does put even more emphasis on using the homing attack than you'd expect. Blah blah blah homing attack. Getting some serious deja vu here.

The ability to lock onto enemies is insignificant next to the power of the Rebound.
