If this games ready, then what's the only thing left to do?

Considering it's a download game rather than a boxed game, I'd assume not much.

 

Hey, at the end of that video of you playing, where it tells you to buy the final version... the top screen, was that the NEW casino street act 2? Looks like sonic is in a roller coaster, or something. Or maybe swinging from something? It's hard to tell...

 

hey RubyEclipse, you know what you should do just for the hell of it? Ask the japanese team if you can make a super secret hidden level just so you can dick around with the level editor and sneak it in as an easter egg for episode 2.

I think that'd be pretty cool.

 

Actually, with all this talk I almost forgot there was super sonic in each level... I wonder if he's gone through any changes because of the sonic changes? Does he accelerate quicker now? Does he have a new blur effect? I can't wait to see him! I'll probably have to wait for the game to come out, though :P

 

better yet, tell tehm to fix uncurling before EP2 is even shown. Worst we had before this was this problem inverted on Game Gear where instead of uncurling, you'd curl up after launching from a 1/4 pipe

 

Time attack is good. Great way to compete and test the limits of the physics and level design. Righteous.

I've heard all the uncurling comments already, and have taken note of them, but mostly just wanted to say I love your sig.

Swinging over to the bright side of life, Sonic's sense of speed is certainly gaining something from the changes to the running animation, both in seeing the whirlyblur sooner and from the additional motion blur effect. Looks pretty good.

And dash pads or not, beating that level in less than a minute is not going to be an automatic process. Just putting that out there for you Achievement hounds.

Is there a release date for this game yet? Sonic Adventure only lasted me three days before I got the 250/250 out of it.

 

It's listed as October 2010 here.

No word from SEGA themselves yet, but given the lineup this quarter—Sonic Adventure in September, Sonic Colors in November—placing the release of Sonic 4 sometime in October would fall together quite neatly. One Sonic game a month.

 

When does Kinect release then? Free Riders is supposed to be a launch title.

The only thing that bugs me is that this game is named Sonic 4. As a Sonic game it could stand alone and would be a nice little series by itself. It will get hate and low scores because it is following the classics. Much like New Super Mario Bros they should have thought more about it. As for the game it looks fun and possibly one of te better games Sonic has appeared in. As for trying to live up to the old school - not the best decision of Sonic Teams. Sadly they are too late to change this... wink wink!

 

Do you mean that the horrible loading screen with Classic Sonic is gone? Sounds like a good change since that screen wasn't exactly fair when an entirely different Sonic was being used at the end.

Regarding music changes, hopefully they've extended the final boss track to sound less repetitive. I would also have a new song for Egg Station instead of that repetitive 2nd boss track, but what do you expect? At least the worst track is potentially replaced, Casino Street Act 2.

As for removing uncurling, it'll probably stay in all episodes due to consistency reasons, but perhaps what needs to be looked at is a "Classic Mode" option, where things such as the homing attack and uncurling are removed. Oh and what happened to the insta-shield?

Just to annoy people, I'll make sure I have uncurling in the next release of Sonic 2 Dimps Edition. Some people have said that this should turn into a serious, main hack, but you never know what'll happen.

 

That's it. It means the title card now lasts a little longer as a result, it's still so short it's negligible.

 

Sounds good. The length of the title card doesn't matter really, it got a small change itself anyway.

Also talking of consistency reasons, people who want the excessive speed boosters gone will probably be disappointed. If this game is episodic and has boosters in every zone, then obviously every zone must therefore continue the quota of at least a few boosters in each act. That could change, but if Episode II hasn't even been started yet (and if we didn't have a horrible product or a delay we would've had it out by the end of 2010), that should give Dimps to refine the physics even more (and have a look at the Sonic Physics Guide...if that is possible).

Unrelated, I wonder if they fixed the special stage result screen. You had the message "SPECIAL STAGE * CLEARED" when you didn't get the emerald (should really be just SPECIAL STAGE) along with the silly line "SONIC ACQUIRED A CHAOS EMERALD" if you did bag one. Also, they should've added the "NOW YOU CAN BE SUPER SONIC" line too.

SOTI, with all due respect, sometimes you really do complain about the most deliciously nitpicky things.

FYI, actually would like to see the old "SPECIAL STAGE" and "SONIC GOT A CHAOS EMERALD" and "NOW SONIC CAN BE SUPER SONIC" lines for nostalgia purposes, but the only thing I see wrong with the messages as they stand are that you really didn't "clear" the Special Stage if you hit the "!" blocks (now with 99.9% less misleading "GOAL" text!), so if it claims it's "cleared" in that case, that'd be stupid. That said, I seem to recall repeat runs through them replacing Emeralds with 1-ups, so if it only says it then and when you get the Emeralds--

...Why am I even bothering to think about this, it's a @#$%ing results screen. >_>
