    If the Sonic Cycle doesn't exist than neither does Sonic 2006 and those bad Storybook games and Unleashed for that matter.

    Unleashed took control away from the play by given the player very little control over Sonic's speed, except in the warehog stages :P.

    Late response, but if it's so easy to make a game that "blows the classics out of the water", why is it that nobody, be they one fan or a full development studio, has even gotten close to S3K? If expecting a greater game isn't "stupidly high standards", why the hell is EVERY OTHER GAME I've EVER PLAYED so inferior to this game?

    So yes, expecting Sonic 4: Episode 1, the first part of an outsourced downloadable game, to even come close to the magic that is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, is definitely "stupidly high standards". And there is absolutely no fucking way you can convince me otherwise.

    Well considering that a Sonic 3&K remake in high definition with all the bells and whistles that plays exactly like the genesis version would leave a good portion of Retro gibbering wrecks...the second part of his statement holds some layer of truth, no?

    I hope they include an option to turn off Super Sonic music, like in Megamix.

    Trying to play S3&K with all the emeralds and no PAR codes to disable that music drives me insane.

    "EVERY OTHER GAME I've EVER PLAYED so inferior to this game?" Do you mean that literally, or are you talking just Sonic? Don't get me wrong, I think S3&K is a phenomenal game, top 5 on my list, but I can name 4 games that match and/or surpaass, and more games that can come close to said standard.

    If you hadn't noticed the community is starting to get some pretty good hacks and fan games. Fan games and hacks that are getting really good at following the classic Sonic formal while making new things. If several of the community have figured out how to start creating a new classic Sonic game why can't Sega?

    Because SEGA doesn't cater to just classic fans alone. Not even for Sonic freakin 4. Tough beans to anyone who wants otherwise.

    But it's the classic fans they claimed to be catering too. It's like bringing Italian food to a Greek get-together. You told them you're bringing Greek, but you brought some Italian.

    This is probably a horrible analogy and I don't care.

    I thought they were just appealing to people who only played Sonic 1-3K as a kid then never really even heard of Sonic games after that

    I did mean that literally, although I was exaggerating a little - I can think of a few games that come close. But S3K is my all-time favourite game, and Mercury's comment seemed to suggest that "Sonic 4 will be the absolute pinnacle of all of humanity's work towards gaming" is a perfectly reasonable expectation.

    Which, for whatever game you substitute in there, it clearly isn't.

    @Duck: I think Mercury wasn't being as broad as you. I'm sure he just meant Sonic games.

    @Sparks: That could be, but I think if that were the case, they wouldn't bother with a 'community' guy like RubyEclipse, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't come here.

    Sonic 4's physics may have problems, but I'm starting to think the wall sticking problem is ALSO part of the D pad problem!

    Hear me out, look at this video:



    At 3:41, you can clearly see the physics working as they should on walls... so all they need to do is not let sonic move while on slopes that steep, and the physics should work like in the classics.

    Or he could jump across them... but yeah, we already knew about this from the leaks. Hopefully they'll change it in the final version. I mean, they said they're looking at level design, right?
