What I'm saying is, they'd rather use an engine that I'd imagine isn't sealed away or lost than disassemble an older rom thus stooping to the level of romhackers and fan-game creators. Thus, false sense of pride.

 

Yeah I'm willing to bet that the only reason there's no Rush hacks is because there's no interest in it, the Sonic 1 and 2 engines are vastly superior and everyone knows it.

 

I would like to hack Sonic Rush.

 

Yeah seriously, in b4 SOTI makes Sonic 4: Sonic Team edition.

It would be especially interesting to see what would happen if someone were able to fix the physics. I wonder how valid the claim is that the level design would break with proper Genesis era physics.

Really? I thought it looked awful. Especially since it's just for loops and not anything else it's kind of jarring too.

 

This is such a stupid post, I'm sorry. Sonic 3 on genesis only has 2 reviews. Is it REALLY fair to compare a game with 2 reviews to a game with 53 reviews? Sonic 2 only has 4 reviews. Did you even look at this stuff before posting? I mean, you mentioned there are less reviews, but you're comparing TWO reviews to FIFTY.

So, is this game, Zork I, better than sonic 3 because it has 100%? No, because it only has two ratings. Two ratings isn't enough to compare to a game with 25 times that.

Sonic advance 2 got 3 ratings of 100%, not to mention others of 99%, 95%, etc. If it had only gotten two reviews, it could have been two of those, and then it would be rated higher than sonic 3. It's important when comparing ratings to make sure that the games have an amount of reviews at least within 10 of each other.

It's not crazy at all. But you said you expect a game that competes with mario, not a "good" game. Sonic 4 and sonic colors both look like "good" games to me.

 

The classic Sonic games used to compete with Mario, why shouldn't we expect the new ones to? If Nintendo is able to keep (some would even say "increase") the quality of their games while SEGA isn't, that sure is a reason for us Sonic fans to bitch about.

 

You can expect them to, I'm just saying it's not going to happen, at least not instantly. It's not fair to the creators to expect them to create a game better than mario after over 10 years of mediocre games. You might as well expect the next Spyro game to be better than mario galaxy, it's simply not going to happen. Not because spyro was never good, but because he hasn't been good for a long time. You can't just expect them to suddenly make an amazing game. Sonic 4 and colors are good steps though, right?

 

Well they are learning from their mistakes, right? Slower than they should, but with sonic 4 and sonic colors, this year may be the best for sonic in quite some time. Even if sonic 4 is only as good as advance, it will still be one of the best sonic games in the past 9 years. Once again, that brings us to the "lowering expectations" thing though. Obviously, SEGA should have learned from their mistakes a couple years back, not now. I'm glad at least now they're starting to have some consistency with unleashed and colors.

 

We weren't really talking about Advance games that I was aware of. Anyway I like all three of those games especially the first one. True GameRankings isn't the best example but its hard to find old reviews of Sonic games. That's also why I added the thing about top 25 games. The true is its hard to compare them by reviews because of the amount of time between reviews and the top 25 example is probably better.

Well I think many, many people would disagree with you about 4 and colors being crap.

So don't act as though we're settling for something mediocre when we really just like the game. Maybe sonic 4 isn't as liked here, but most people here feel that colors is great, if you look at the colors thread.

I mean, we've seen the majority of sonic 4 and we've seen a lot of sonic colors, we can have opinions on their current builds, can't we?
