Since the Dreamcast era? That's great, Ruby, but I thought this was supposed to be the best Sonic game since Sonic 3 and Knuckles. No doubt people will enjoy it, though. We just want to point out some problems that can be ironed out before release, or at least be noted particularly for Episode 2. Fairly simple problems not unnoticeable to your average gamer. We're kinda looking out for you guys in a sort of enlightened self-interest sort of way.

I'm not really accusing SEGA of falsehood yet, but I've definitely heard it here more than twice. The only thing I'm seeing is either oblivious or deliberate evasion of physics- and/or design-related complaints, aside from the minecart debacle and a minor speed adjustment. In any case, I'm still curious as how long it took DIMPs to retool Lost Labyrinth Zone Act 2 from minecart mayhem to torch trek. And when we can expect a Wii demo.

You know, I'm not sure I would've minded the minecart all that much, but now that I think about it, I'm glad they scrapped it for the console builds.

That's what I was wondering myself.

At this point it really doesn't matter though. Given the developments of the last few days I've completely given up. Sonic has become a nasty bloody loose whore that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot poll. I'm done with Sega's Sonic games and Sega as a company.I hope Sega goes bankrupted and a company that can make decent games gets Sonic.

    I'm done, just done.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in how another company might handle Sonic, but SEGA puts out more games than just Sonic. Good games that most people love. Or at least most hardcore gamers anyways.

Yeah, if Episode 2 doesn't get a complete re-tooling, I'm not buying any sonic 4 episodes. I know its a long time to wait but really, the handling of this franchise is pretty poor. It seems like the community and PR people are the only ones who know how to do their jobs. And even then, half of the time none of the official sega reps are on the same page. Every time Ken or Ruby or Iizuka says something, it directly contradicts what another person has said.

I remember being told the homing attack was optional. Even if that's not actually what was said, it was worded to downplay the significance of the 'feature' of the game and I think that's dishonest.

    Give Sonic to Platinum Games.

Given Sega's track record it would be very naive to think there was even a slight hope of a re-tooling for future episodes.

Hold your horses until after we've played the game. It's useless in this thread, and I apologize for encouraging it. Back to talking about the actual game(s).

Perhaps, but getting something for our troubles is better than nothing, if SEGA's going to go through the trouble of asking us.

I expect that all episodes will play the same....like how S3 and S&K did.

Are you kidding me, this game is already nowhere on my "must get list" at this point. I was just saying in general, just give Sonic to Platinum Games. Watch them turn shit into gold. SEGA already publishes their games so it's not impossible for PG to work on an outsourced Sonic title.

When Iikuza finally passes away, and you can bet Sega will still be churning out Sonic titles by then, Sonic will make a comeback!

Then have the decency to start a separate thread on precisely that.

Well, considering the Saturn games (everybody super sonic racing!), I guess I could actually say that on the whole, it's probably among the best Sonic games (in my opinion) since the originals. I like it better than Rush, and better than the Advance series. (The one caveat to that is Rush's amazing music. You rock, Naganuma.) I still hold both Adventure games in high regard though, maybe just because I loved my Dreamcast and the era during which they came out, though admittedly I was not a fan of Big the Cat's fishing challenges in SA1 or the "Don't hit the walls!" emblem challenges in SA2. I hit so many walls.

And no worries about all the feedback - I understand that at its core, it comes because there's something fans want to see again, and it's something they're very passionate about. I think they have every right to be, even if it may come off as complaining or seem negative sometimes. We as fans complain about things because we want to see them changed in ways we think will better not only the game, but the series altogether. And that, at the origin of the desire, is a very good thing.

Someone suggested giving Sonic to someone else in this thread, I was replying to them.

Well, you're all right then Ruby. If you say it's that good in spite of all valid criticisms, then I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until I play it. Until then, though, we won't stop talking about it.

I know that. It's still a topic better suited to a separate thread.

So Ruby, I know it's asking a lot in this instance, but any thoughts on the recent uncurling and wall-walking discussion? I'll stop asking about the Wii demo and the duration of retooling LLZ2 given your subtle evasion of the questions.

We'd also have good luck with everyone at Dimps passes.

It seems so obvious for the future for this game. Its going to get released get ok reviews and all the classic fans are going to hate it. Sega should have just cut their losses and canceled the game. That or release it as it was back in July, they are just wasting their money now because we're still gonna hate it.

    Speak for yourself. :(

I think it's looking pretty good so far, much better than anything since Sa1 fore sure.

Nah, he could be on to something. It's at least highly probable, especially considering SEGA's track record. See Sonic Heroes for starters.

Overbound you're usually a nice guy, but every time I hear you talk about Sonic 4, I just want to bang my head against a wall or something (this post isn't aimed at you specifically, it's aimed at people who think similarly as well, so don't take it personal) Mainly because you're probably not the only person thinking like this.

    "Cancel Sonic 4"

What are you smoking? This game is going to give SEGA a shit load of money, whether we at Retro like it or not. SEGA canceling Sonic 4 would be the most moronic thing they could do this year.

"Baw I'm done with SEGA forever"

I want to criticize this, but I'm not even sure where to start. I just know it sounds moronic for some reason. Oh. Right. SEGAs finally giving us half decent shit like

Colors not living up to anyone's expectations of a Sonic game is just baffling to me. That game is a beautiful God-send when it comes to level design and power-ups compared to what we've been getting lately. Yeah sure I'm sugarcoating it a fair bit there, but you know what I mean. And sure Sonic 4 isn't the best either, but at least SEGA Dimps is trying to some degree (even though it's still pretty crap). Said attempt is at least better than

I'm beginning to think some people just hate Sonic games, and want them to cease to exist because of FAN RAGE/BUTTHURT etc.

Or that some fans don't know what they want in a Sonic game anymore, so they just hate everything by default.

ok fan dumb rant is done

I'f you're uncurled and very near your target, and you homing attack, it doesn't work. This was in the very same video that brought the uncurling business into the limelight. He started a homing attack near an enemy and died leaving a homing attack trail. This is not something that can be debated, it simply is.

I think everyone needs to read Sparks' post. Sega's pulling through, just with some games more than others. Come on.
