Thank you. It's good to hear from someone who has actually gotten some hands-on time with it. :)

Yes, which is totally why we delayed the game for months solely so we could improve it and make it better. ;) (Opinions are one thing, but I swear that sometimes people seem to have very selective memory.)

Any hopes that Episode 2 will look graphically better or use a better engine? :v:

How is saying "someone will complain" a generalization? "Everyone will complain" would be a generalization. Ruby is just saying that obviously, no matter what is done, there will always be someone who dislikes it.

If my statement is a baseless generalization, then both Elvis and Tupac are still alive on an island somewhere and hell has not simply frozen over, but is actually in the middle of the afterlife's biggest snowstorm - ever.

(I'd find that kind of awesome, personally, but having been with the Sonic community for years, people having different opinions is very much a given.)

Sometimes. For instance, Rare's former community manager George Kelion hung around places like DK Vine and Rare Witch Project prior to the release of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Heck, I'll thank Ruby for probably being the person I most respect in handling the PR for this game. Certain others named in this thread have more than once come off like they're either bluffing through their info dumps or shooting themselves in the foot by trying to justify an aspect of the game with backwards logic, and they don't have to respond when fans call them out on it.

Ruby I am curious about the auto-play nature of the game. Why is it that every time a sonic game comes out, there is even more hand-holding, boosters, and rails? This is another complaint that has been around since the adventure days and I think colors/unleashed suffers from this as well.

Also, are the physics going to be redone for episode 2? I know the problem with not addressing it now is a lack of dev time, but that isn't an excuse for episode 2. But if the entirety of sonic 4 is going to consist of this kind of gameplay I am not going to be buying any of them. There is just too much in common with sonic rush, and that means more autoplay, more scripted events.

Impulse comment time: It's a cheap downloadable game! Don't expect so much, guys!

Sonic 4 definitely has that problem but it's not as automated as sonic advance 2, sonic rush, rush adventure, or sonic unleashed or anything like that. So I don't think it's fair to say it keeps getting more and more automated. This is one of the least automated sonic games in a while (sadly).

But that's the thing, Sonic 4 isn't really something new. It's just another modern style Sonic game, it does nothing to appreciably change that. Oh, and "give you" is a poor choice of words.

This is true of most everything, but you can't use it as an excuse, especially not in a circumstance like this.

Whether or not this is true, it is also not an excuse for something else to be more automated than it.

Who the hell wanted it to be a cheap downloadable game? Sega clearly should've asked around.

Not sure if serious, but the obvious and somewhat justified reply is that a cheap (in terms of faithfulness to its prequels, as well as money) downloadable game should not be given the title of Sonic 4. As many people have said, there would be infinitely less complaints if it was called something else. And IMO it's not particularly unreasonable to expect something slightly grander from said name.

I mean, it's not that much more automated than sonic 3. There were tons of long sections where you'd just get blasted from spring to spring or booster to booster. Those have always been a part of sonic games, they're just abused much more recently. Still, sonic 4 isn't too automated. I was just saying that sonic 4, of all recent games, has much fewer of those automated moments than any sonic games in the past 10 years.

Partially not, anyway. Part of me thinks it could be a section of thinking behind it. It's a sad though, but eh.

I'm not interested in incremental upgrades that make such diminutive improvements, especially how a Sonic game is supposed to function isn't some kind of long standing enigma.

Hey Ruby do you think the new things that have been hinted to appear in later episodes will receive the same amount of negative feedback as the Werehog?

Also what's your personal opinion on the Super Emeralds? I'd really appreciate it if you could answer my questions. :)

Instead of droning on about facts and opinions and all that tired old dreck. How about some cold, hard objectivity for a change?

Look at that Mushroom Hill 3d video and the overwhelming positive response to it. ESPECIALLY look at the comments from people saying "this should've been Sonic 4". It's almost universally loved, 373,183 views and 4,129 likes vs 70 dislikes (the exceptions are not the rule, fuck em!).

Regardless of whether it's a real fangame or a rendering. Who the fuck cares? The video represents what many of us wanted Sonic 4 to be like.
