Enough with this bullshit already, guys. Remember what we got for Sonic's 10th anniversary? Hint: Nothing important. These events hold little significance aside from giving Sega an excuse to peddle some merchandise and/or ostensibly bolster the significance of a game that would've been developed and released regardless of the date.

Colors is their big game this year and it hasn't even been released yet. Stop getting ahead of yourselves!

^Though they did hint they are working on a game for Sonic's 20th anniversary, and based on a recent interview (few months ago) with the president of SEGA of America/Europe, it seems it will be a sequel to Sonic Heroes quite possibly.

Anyways new Sonic 4 interview (with colors)

In case it wasn't posted before, here are cleaner versions of those screenshots on Xbox Live from a video capture:

And if it wasn't mentioned before, there is one screenshot that I like:

In the leaked version, there was a problem with the rings spill physics falling close together and pretty much stationary close to where Sonic got hit. In this case, the rings appear to be flying in a wider range than before. I might've under analyzed the leaked version, but I'm pretty sure this was one of the problems it had.

  4. Who exactly is this going to confuse? No one. The 'classic' fans know better, and the others won't care.

That wasn't very nice to lead the fans on as to what to expect. Also, too many booster gimmicks are bad game design by creating artificial pacing rather than using the "momentum based gameplay" constantly repeated by the team.

The game is altered far too much around the Homing Attack. We've already gone through this before though, so I'm not going to add anything more.

(emphasis added) It sounds more like he wants it too feel like a classic game and present it like a classic game, rather than actually make it a classic game brought up to modern day technology.

I never realized what a jackass Iizuka was until this interview. I am disappointed in myself.

Ahaha! Does Iizuka know what the word "execration" actually means? This whole interview sort of reads like it was fed through Babelfish, but I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt on this.

So Iizuka's full of shit and has absolutely no fucking clue as to what he's doing, and the team's backpedaling on their words as the game's release draws near, just as I'd predicted. Wonderful, wonderful. This game is just one big insult.

This is why Iizuka is probably the worst person to be heading this game. Back in the day, he NEEDED Yasuhara to be there to clean up his nonsense. Without him, things like this happen. The game is practically doomed from it's conception.

He's pretty much saying that we're too stupid to actually play the game, that we need the game to be played for us otherwise the pacing gets thrown off. Seriously?

RubyEclipse, AAUK, SOMEONE. Get in contact with this man. Show him specifically how Sonic 1, 2 and 3K all manage to function ABSOLUTELY GREAT with minimal speed boosters and hand holding sections. Then show him Retro Sonic XG and Sonic 2 Advanced Edit, and let him learn that the fans are doing a better job than he is.

Truly pathetic. I feel insulted, actually. =/

They've told him this already. Who knows how many times. He doesn't listen.

But yes, I echo LoS's statements. Fire Iizuka. Autoplay needs to stop.

I just successfully put my head through my bedroom wall. Look dude, spamming boosters does not a make a successful game. If you being honest during this review, you're really out of touch. This game will sell copies, but your little project is being outclassed by Colors in every way. I think sales figures will reflect that.

But Sonic XG has Rush jump :specialed:

And Advance Edit wasn't the best on level layout design (Sorry Rika :(). I think Pixel Perfect would be a great example of decent level design. Nexus was enjoyable as well, and has those quarter ramps. :eng101:

Man, this guy makes worse PR gaffs than Biden. Somebody gag him.

I agree with SolidSOAP as far as his metaphors go, but then it doesn't invalidate Sonic 4 for me. It's already looking really good, so I'll wait to sink my teeth into Episode 1 before I start deciding whether it's turkey or roast beef, and whether or not I'm compelled to give a fuck.

EDIT: And yeah, so this is where us fans come in and tell SEGA what for. Or better yet, show them. There's probably a good handful of great hacks or fangames that play just like the original games, and then there's Medina's 3D rendering of Sonic 3 & Knuckles to show how to properly remake a Genesis game and "bring Sonic back to his roots". Again, I still can't wait to play the game and decide for myself, but if the issue is a matter of synergy between conventional design and physics methodologies, then look no further than Sonic Retro. Oh yeah, and somebody just daisy-chained Sonic 1 and 2 into one seamless game. I haven't played it yet, but it sounds like the coolest thing since Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

Sonic XG has it, but Retro Sonic XG doesn't. =P

Honestly, I'll probably still buy this and enjoy it. I liked the Rush games, after all. But the fact that they're intentionally disregarding classic design quirks because they're "TOO HARD" pisses me off.

Gonna take this off subject for a small second; Retro XG has a demo out? Or something? :psyduck:

Somebody, get Iizuka a link to Sonic Retro, the Sonic Physics Guide and some "hints" that will let him know dashpads are not the way to make a Sonic game; stat. This man is a lost soul and if he really wants that feedback (I'm sure it's just him and trying to look good), then we should shove all this in his face. Also someone please let him know nobody wanted to be forced down areas by dashpads and spring-chains and cleverly placed homing attack chains. Ever. :colbert:

No, but it uses Retro's engine.

Can't persuade a man who may apparently not listen. This is why Sonic 4 could never truly be the game we've imagined. We, being the vocal majority from my observations. Though, I'm being ignorant -- perhaps it'll be fun when it releases, though, from past experiences of hope turning into tears and rage, I doubt it. We'll see.

Geese, this guy seems to have a harder time under standing to not spam the booster than I do figuring out why invisible walls with a small fence in front is bad level design.

Can we make our biggest complaint about sonic 4 be Iizuka before episode 2 comes out?

Holy shit I'm mad. He's purposely ignoring all the complaints and valid criticism on one of the biggest offenders to the level design/structure for this game.

What the fuck, SEGA? Why do you still keep Iizuka around? I really want to know what makes him such a valuable asset besides him being a veteran of the original Sonic Team, because he just comes off as someone who's completely lost his way.
