Oh you mean that part when you can't hit him when he's flying in and readying the wrecking ball? I don't see a problem with that. Isn't it just like in Emerald Hill? I understand what you mean though. All the bosses in the Rush games are out of range most of the time and so you have to attack at certain times. That sucks when it's always done, but it's not yet been a problem in S4.

I don't know if this was suggested in the discussion of this in the "other knowledge" topic, but I wondered if Sonic ducking simply borks the collision, and thus the goop just splashes on the ground. Then someone mentioned that Tails can't use the same defence, which made me doubt my speculation. As someone else said a page or so ago, it'd be interesting if someone with code knowledge could chime in; perhaps they did in the other topic (in which we should keep this discussion).

Although I think you mean to say Green Hill Zone, you're correct in either case!

I meant Emerald Hill cause you can't hit Eggman when he's flying in with the helicopter, but you can hit him as he flies into Green Hill. I still don't understand what Dude is getting at though. Not being able to attack as he flies into the battle area only seems fair because it stops you winning before the battle begins.

Gah, I'm a noob. For some reason I thought you couldn't hit him initially in GHZ.

Anyway, you're right that it makes sense to withhold the ability to damage him until the fight properly begins. However, the good logic of this is somewhat offset by the failed logic of allowing players to spam the h****g a****k, as you said earlier.

I don't want to play that boss, it doesn't look very fun, I hope they change it, I never liked random platforms that crush you bosses. Reminds me of a really frustrating Sonic Advance 3 boss... And an S3K boss.

It's stupid you can't just get boss fights over with, I like just spamming attacking them so they'll leave me alone. I'm not big on boss fights really, they're slow, repetitive, tedious, constantly dangerous, there's no save point, there's no rings, you have to make it back to them when you die, you don't get a freebee health like on other games, Pinch mode in any game is too unexpected and gimmicky (It feels cheap if I die on that, it's all memory based) and now you can't just spam kill them and be done with it. You suck Dimps. How dare you make me fight a Sonic boss like they're actually important! :argh:

the more Sonic 4 (and Dimps making it) gets bitched about, the more it seems like everyone here wants the easiest possible Sonic game.

First there's the complaint of bottomless pits.
Now there's the complaint of bosses that you can't insta-kill?

You say that as if Sonic games weren't already some of the easiest games out there.

    Working on my art!
Well to be fair classic Sonic games have very few bottomless pits, with the exception of some of the lower routes of Star Light Zone and Scrap Brain Zone Act 1 in Sonic 1.

  13. There aren't that many bottomless pits in the leaked version. Layouts are pretty reasonable except for the RUN FROM THE WALL sections and the awful gimmick stages. The mine cart and shit, I mean. Which wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
    1. The "bad ending" of Chrono Trigger, if you happen to die in the battle against Lavos.
    2. If I had to guess, it's a snarky joke/statement that Sonic 4 will still suck regardless of the delay.

I'd like easy bosses in a sense, yeah, but I don't want something that falls over if I blow on it, just something that, once I stop sucking at it, I can thrash in 5 seconds.

I guess Angel Island's boss is a good example because the first time I played it the thing always killed me in the bottomless pit, but once I figured out what to do I could own him easily. Sonic 4's LLZ boss doesn't appear to work like that. Even though there have been Sonic bosses that would only allow one hit at a time, it has always made sense. (Egg Viper comes to mind, it always fucked me over, now at my worst I only die twice.) But you can still hit the damn boss! So why isn't it taking damage?! That's just cheap and forced.

Shadow of the Colossus is a good example of fairly hard bosses that make sense, as someone who has yet to beat the game and only just started playing it recently, you can hit a boss multiple times provided you can keep from losing your grip. (You can't kill them as easily as Sonic bosses but they are still fair to you in that you know if you died on it it was purely because you don't know what you're doing or you need to get better. It doesn't feel like the game sucker punched you in the balls.)

I'm going to agree with Dude's assertion that not being allowed to hit the bosses until the fight begins is a bad idea, but for a related but still different reason. There is no apparent change in state from "not being able to hit the boss" to "being able to hit the boss". This is essentially an arbitrary change is lazy (because the game presents no reason for it taking place), makes the world less consistent, and reminds you that it's a game because Eggman is essentially cheating.

I'd also like to mention how hideous Eggman's new design is, seriously.
