  1. So , SEGA's history is poor, so that must mean that you shouldn't bother.
You can't hide behind that fact all the time.
    You have to persevere.
But of course, all you guys know is sitting on the sideline exclaiming how bad SEGA and Sonic Team are at their job.

If I had the programming skills to apply for a Job at SEGA, I would have done so.
Eventually, something would have happened. Saying that the chances are slim from a distance won't help.

Except for the fact that Sega of America hires americans and Sega Europe hires europeans. Sega of japan does NOT hire americans, ever. When was the last time Sega of America made a core sonic game? oh that's right, sonic 2.

A talented developer applying to sega where you live would, at best, get stuffed into SUMO digital. A telented programmer where I live wouldn't get hired at all unless they moved to california, and even then they'd be stuck making crappy download cash ins. Unless sega wakes up and realizes that their japanese team isn't going to be making a classic sonic title any time soon, especially with Takashi 'boost' Iizuka at the helm and a bunch of middle aged shareholders deciding when things come out and what direction they take.

So is the application process still superior in finding talent to the talent scouting process? I don't think so.

What if you're applying to Sumo Digital?

Then that's great, enjoy making spin offs and not the core franchise. If that's what you want to do, perfect. But it won't get you working on sonic 4 or sonic colors.

  5. Didn't SoA also make SA2?
So what? Are you going to wait until the current SEGA leaders retire.
If they don't scout around, you apply. Doesn't matter if the odds are against you. Most people who've done anything worthwhile have done it against the odds.
    What exactly is Sonic 4?
If talented people make "Crappy downloadable cash-ins" such as Sonic 4, what would be the problem? It would increase the overall quality of said titles.
If those talented people produce a downloadable game that rings well with the press, fans and wracks up more sales than expected, they may eventually get promoted.

Looks to me like they need to snip that curved top and make his rolling not suck at the same time. :V Why would they curve the top anyway? It seems pointless.

Edit: Lol @ the fan-made engine, that already looks really awesome.

Sonic 4 is a crappy downloadable cash in, but again, japs working on it. I know you mentioned SA2, but still, japs only. They don't let non-japanese work on sonic games except for spinoffs.

That's really fucking depressing. Heaven forbid a non-japanese person wants to help make a GOOD Sonic game.

You know, since Sonic isn't as popular in Japan as it is in America or Europe, why the hell does SEGA not let SoA or SoE make the games, as they'd actually give a damn about them?

  9. How fatalistic.
That doesn't mean you can't try.

+ - Some rich guy who goes here should buy some shares.   :colbert:

I remember it was SOA who took Sonic out of that faggoty little rock band, removed his stupid fangs and took away his human girlfriend waaay back in the day. Whatever level of involvement SOA had, they always seemed to keep SOJ in check and make sure Sonic had a global appeal.

Now with minimal American influence, Japan have forgotten that there is a little place called "the rest of the world" that cares not for the fucking stupid anime shitfest that Sonic has become. And as for the gameplay, don't get me... fucking started!

SOJ are a real stubborn cunch of bunts, and while no doubt Ruby and Ken are trying to get through to them with our complaints I have a feeling they're mostly falling on deaf ears.

  11. Buy some shares...
After all, ithe shareholders are what matters, and if they shareholders are fans......well.....who knows.

    wow @ this SoJ discussion.

Very eye-opening. It explains a lot. The traditionalism of Japan seems to negatively affect Sonic (and possibly other games) more and more as I learn about it.

What if said shareholders are fans of Sonic 06 and Unleashed?

All the americans did was tweak the backstory. I'm sure we're all fans mostly due to gameplay. So having americans doing the same as they did in Sonic's 1 developement wouldn't change anything important for us. At least not what the majority is claiming for, physic tweaks. Maybe they'd change the eye colour or something, seems around the same cosmetic importance as fangs had. Or change the sidekick. Maybe it would be hardcore Kirby instead of Tails.

Traditionalism of the japanese has nothing to do with it either. Most imaginative games from the last decade were japanese. That doesn't stop the rest of the world from being able to have the same imagination either. It's all due to talent, and that's available in all regions. This hate on the japanese is pointless.

Sega's shareholders having free reign? We'd have new Sonic games every single month. He's what pays most of the bills these days.

I like both the comics and the gameplay, but I see them as two very different things. I caught on to that early on after noticing Sally Acorn, or Rotor, or Antoine never appear in the games. Also, I prefer Robotnik to Eggman.

I don't see the relevance of bringing the comic crowd up, when we're discussing gameplay issues. Whatever they like in the comics has nothing to do with what we're discussing here. It's like the fangs, the girlfriend or the rock band. That doesn't amp the level design or the gameplay.

Before this thread turns into Sonic the Corporate Casualhog again... Do you think Sega/Dimps has added an awesome gimmick to Casino Street Act 2? They've already used 'lights out' for Lost Labyrinth so I guess the Knuckles style 'lololpressswitchlightsoutsonicandtails' won't be used again. A cool gimmick could be a balloon that Sonic holds to gain more vertical speed above Hydro City style fans.

I thought I'd post my thoughts on Sonic 4.
I'm 21 years of age, and ever since I was round 4, I loved playing Sonic. I first got a Mega Drive with Sonic 3, and a year later, I finally got Sonic and Knuckles after renting it so many times and getting stuck on sandopolis act 2. I went reverse and played Sonic 2, then Sonic 1, and completed them all, emeralds, super emeralds, the lot.

I remember being told round that time that a sonic 4 was being made, but I think that just turned out to be sonic adventure, but I remember how much I was looking forward to a sonic 4 even then.
Now the reason im saying this, is that as soon as the real Sonic 4 was announced, which was just before my birthday, the kid from the 90's bounced between the walls, finally.

Even looking at the logo that had been on my sonic poster that had been on my wall as a child, now had a big shining 4 next to it, I was elated.
Following it up until now, the changes, splash hill zone being unveiled, the trailers, the music, some of the leak, but I didn't see much of that as I didn't want to spoil it for myself, even if some of it has been changed, I simply, cannot wait for it. I don't want to go in depth about how sonic's spindash may be odd when its going up slope (although admittedly, I've noticed on the videos once he pulls away from a built up spindash, the sound of it is the same as when he's building up speed, if it could be changed to the sound of him setting off from a spindash just as in Sonic 3, I'd be even more satisfied :P )
Aside from that rather long bracket of a ranting request, I want to be surprised, just how I was when I first played Sonic 3, or when I locked it on to Sonic and Knuckles, and then when I got told I could finally play as Hyper Sonic. I love Sonic still as much as I did when I was a small kid, as he's still here wanting to play it, no matter how much real life is in front of me.

Also, I work in a mobile phone shop with demo iPhones, and the demo I show to the kids with their parents, is Sonic 2. Even today, there was this kid, must have been around 5, wondering what the TV would do in Emerald Hill, and to avoid the spikes at all cost, and all I could do was faintly smile, as it reminded me of how I was when I first played it too round that age. But the best thing is that their generation will be playing Sonic 4 on possibly their older sibling's, or parent's console, wanting to know how they can do the homing attack, and why 'Robotnik' (and it always will be in my mind :) ) has just brought down this construction ball.

I hope RubyEclispe sees this and knows, there are people out there, who love Sonic as much as the 'hardcore' fans do, and the fact that Sonic 4 is being made is a great thought in itself, and all I want to do is say thank you and wish you and your team the best of luck. Obviously there'll be faults, the odd glitches in the beginning that people are bound to find, but then again, Sonic 3 had its fair share of glitches, well documented in youtube videos I discovered from this forum :P

I simply love the fact that Sonic 4 is being made. New zones, new music, a twist on existing badniks and egg-o-matic matches, all in glorious High Definition too, and even as this was delayed, all for good reason I'll add, it'll be out faster than Sonic 2 HD anytime soon :P
I'm not interested in ranting and raving over the tiniest thing, I just want to play it as soon as I can, and get 50 rings, press jump twice, and speed along the zones as Super Sonic once again while my 4 year old self laps it up, knowing that Sonic 4 is finally being played
<div align='center'>I look forward to the fall, and Episode 2 :)</div>
