Personally, I'm assuming/hoping that once all the updates are out, we'll get a video showcasing at least some of the changes, if not all.

Then again, a video saying "Look, it's easier for spinny runs!" among other things would probably be awkward, so I'd just assume a potential video would showcase major changes.

    Just my two cents though.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
Keep in mind, they hinted that we'd be getting a video for Lost Labyrinth soon. We might see something revealing there. Unless it's, y'know, another montage of boostpads. =P

While I'd contend that anyone who well and truly believes that a gimmick for a single act is far more devastating than the mechanics you're going to be playing the entire game with (let alone something as innocuous as a minecart) is terminally retarded, it doesn't even matter when we've known that the minecart was gimped for fucking months now. It was the one update they told us right off the bat.

A pittance of an update and none of the changes actually matter. They're not going to change the physics, guys. They're probably not even going to remove a fraction of the boosters. Let's just call the whole thing off already.

God dammit, will you let them do their job? Firstly, they never said they'd scrap the mine cart. Those were all rumors, or TSSZ with their "source" that they wouldn't tell us about.

Secondly, the physics as is aren't as bad as rush according to the videos and people playing. Yeah, they're bad, but they're not completely terrible.

And it's so obnoxious, that after Sega delays the game and changes one of people's largest complaints, all you do is say:

"Yeah, they showed us they fixed THAT major issue, but they didn't show the others! That must mean it's not fixed! We should've known Sega would never fix it, let's give up guys".

And about them telling us "right off the bat", they said the physics would be made more pinball based "right off the bat". So by your logic, that should be true also.

How about we all just wait until the game is actually out? I personally think the game was really bad at the state it was meant to be released in July, but even I'm willing to give them a small chance to fix things. We already know everything we want changed will not be done in the first episode, but we still have a list of changes coming, so at least wait until we get the full extent of the changes before complaining.

So the leaked full game from a few months back is a beta now thats good to know.

Were going to need a full beta-to-final change log when sonic 4 is adventually released.

In comparison to the lack of pinball physics and the absolutely ridiculous addition of forced curling and uncurling, + - (which in terms of undeniable, blatantly idiotic, and pointless design is on par with the genius decision to assign homing attack and air boost to the same button, while leaving one button to do nothing, in SU HD)   one act of mine cart is a very minuscule issue, IMO. Sonic Dimps could at least throw us a bone and give us update on those two much larger problems, instead of something everybody figured out from the start.

Again, this is just my view on the situation, and I'm still willing to be patient and hopeful.

+ - But still, they could at least acknowledge the curling/uncurling situation. Sorry if they have mentioned it and I've simply missed it.

Hey everyone. It's been a 10+ hour day so far, so please forgive me if there are typos here - wanted to drop a line to you guys with my view about today's updates.

The Sonic fanbase is huge. Very huge. Among the many who know and play Sonic games, there are some who haven't touched them in years, others who are new and love the 3D games, and also some really core groups, like many of you guys here at Retro. I alluded to it in my blog post, but when opinions are that varied, even the smallest of changes will make some happy and others mad. This is a fact we have to get used to when working on a Sonic game.

I do think it's a bit unfortunate that some people looked at today's updates and complained that specific requests weren't included, though. Know that I follow you guys 100% in your wish to make the physics and things like uncurling as close to the originals as possible, but I don't think that's really any reason to get too angry when we announce that we've improved a large part of the game; especially one as big as Act II in Lost Labyrinth.

Thank you to those who did jump in to try and point out that today is about positives, not negatives. To the core group here, and to those still wanting more: I hear you, I respect you, and know that I'm fighting for you. I won't win every battle, but I will try regardless.

No matter what names may be called or what insults are hurled, that's what my job means. I was really happy to finally release our update news today. I'm sorry if it wasn't what everyone was hoping for, especially the crowd here, but I do think, truly, that the changes we announced today go a mile to help make this game what it needs to be.

...With that, I really need to get out of the office. :) Thank you, and goodnight guys!

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm extremely appreciative of the effort being put into changing things, its just been somewhat disheartening to see that the issue of curling/uncurling had yet to be addressed, but its nice to see it finally being acknowledged.

Just watch out that your desk isn't suddenly Sweet Mountain Zone with all the Blue Bell Ice Cream and Krispy Kreme donuts.

Update's definitely a positive in my book. I really like the new concept behind LLZ2, since it fits quite nicely with the general theme of the stage. The other tweaks are welcome, especially the LLZ3 wall. That wall was really unholy. Here's hoping MGZ3, even being the pentultimate zone, gets a little tweaking done to it.

Right now, I'm keeping an eye out for Casino Street 2's new revision. Also, will we be seeing Lost Labyrinth Zone 2 and 3's music added to the website in the future like Splash Hill Zone, or is this just a "Patience, young padawan" thing?

EDIT: Disheartening? Sir, this is only part one of a series of updates. You can't show your hand all at once (as much as the whole scene would love this.) I've a feeling you'll see it addressed in the future.

What's the Curling/Uncurling issue? This is the first I've heard of it.

Hey, no worries. We know you have a difficult job, especially when dealing with Sonic fans. As for the update itself, I like it. I'm glad they addressed some of the issues we had, and look forward to seeing updates in the future.

In just about every 2D Sonic game, most importantly in the classics, when you are hurled from a ramp or something after spin-dashing, you stayed in that spinning state and could bounce on enemies afterwards and weren't vulnerable to getting harmed by enemies. However in Sonic 4, Sonic "uncurls" out of his ball-form after getting launched from a ramp and is vulnerable to attack.

  16. cool ruby. I look forward to all the updates. its funny how delicate this game is to fans and sega alike. Its pretty badass

When you launch off a ramp in Sonic 4, Sonic uncurls at the maxim and falls spread eagle. The idea is to let the player either choose to homing attack an enemy in the air or to jump boost to gain speed. Usually, unless enemy layout has been tweaked, this leads to flying into enemies or right into a bottomless pit in certain cases.

In other words: jump boosting mindlessly is a good way to get you killed.

Oh, you know us, we're going to pick at everything you release. No hard feelings, but, it's just the state we've been left in after the history of these post-Adventure Sonic games -- understand we're just trained to be concerned, skeptical, and angry.

Keep up the amazing work, and the fights, and we may finally be brought the games the fans have been waiting for, thus making us more appreciative of future updates, games, etc. (Of course, I'm not talking about everyone).

    In time....

Who are you, and what did you do to Polygon Jim?

On topic: The next update is in about 2-3 weeks (early September). We might get Casino Street stuff then, along with it's Act 2 change. Even if it doesn't, I can definitely see uncurling be brought up. I mean, heck. If they have time to redo Sonic's running animation, they can certainly remove uncurling, right? Especially considering the amount of backlash it got.
