On GBA you can spindash in Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time and go back up to the top route.

  3. I think they're discussing the not crappy GBA abomination.

And that thing sucked. I don't like being reminded of it.

See that is why I also hate this game. On the genesis, it was impossible to hold the size of sonic 3 + sonic and knuckles together, so they had to split for 2 parts. In this era, they can do much bigger sizes, why split? That is yet another fail reasons to try calling this game "classic".

You know what I also noticed? After sonic 3k, most of their new sonic games turned out to be a failed attempt to test their new engines.

Knuckles chaotix - lol3Deffects. Another "releasing a console for one game" game.

Sonic 3D blast - lolShitty3Deffects. The mega drive version sucked, and the port over to the saturn could've been better if they used more ground textures but the CHECKERED TILES OVER AGAIN.

Sonic heroes - test of the team system. If they released a sequel though, it will look like they were also doing it for the storyline.

Now this - A fail attempt to make money, also check if screen rotation works (Iphone shit) on special stages and mine cart. Can it be done? Yes.

I'm pretty sure the split was time constraint. Don't we have a beta that basically has both games together.

And 3D Blast was a TT game meant to fill the void of no Sonic games. Heroes wasn't their engine. If I recall, Chaotix was it's own thing until they shoved Knuckles into the lead.

Sounds like your angry about new ideas, not "engines".

Failing: Not succeeding in a task. They will not fail in making money with the hype that's been building up. They MIGHT fail in making a good throwback to the classics, but it will still sell like sweet cakes covered in xtc.

Yeah we do and the design docs for Sonic 3 & Knuckles talks about releasing the game later on one cart. Together Sonic 3 & Knuckles is, what, 24 megs? 32 megs?

Either way it doesn't matter - Super Street Fighter 2 is the biggest genesis game ever at 40 megs. So I don't think size was ever an issue, unless you're talking about the cost of such a huge cart.

Yeah, it was definitely to save time, space had little to do with it. (Wasn't Sonic 2 intended to be much longer, but was cut down because of time?)

Sooo, if you think about it... episodic gaming has been in the Sonic series for some time! And I gotta say, I think it's gonna turn out to be a good move for Sonic 4. It'll allow greater development time, so that little glitches and niggles can be fixed between episodes. Just another reason I'm so optimistic about this game.

I think, at this point, given how many times they've references how "episodic" Sonic 3 & Knuckles was, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't let the future episodes lock on to the first one.

    I mean, everybody expects it.

If they have lock on and the assumed extra characters, something will have to be done about the homing attack chains. Granted some of them ain't too bad, those bottomless pit ones will be an absolute nightmare. Flying over them or gliding and climbing just seems like it would be a cop-out also. Unless they pull a Rivals and give everyone the homing attack.

  12. I doubt they'd do that, unless they want us to hate the game.
    As for the lock-on.
It had better have it. Its mandatory for something like this to ever work.

This reminds me of Knuckles in Sonic 2. It was sooooo easy to just glide over everything, and then Death Egg destroys you for free.

A lot of Splash Hill's gameplay has to do with the use of the Homing Attack, including the vines and that grappling hook thing that will zone you across an area. So if they decide to put Tails and Knuckles in a later episode, and that allows them to play levels like Splash Hill where those levels aren't designed for other characters, this could be bad. Or at the very least, feel really weird.

You don't need the homing attack for the vines or grappling hook, though. Vines you can simply jump from vine to vine, and the grappling hook you can run or spindash into.

The homing attack is there, so use it.

  16. I never really saw the homing attack as that important, but I'll use it, if just to make the game a bit easier.

    Spax' interview with Ken Balough
I'm in the middle of watching it now, and it's funny. Some things are plain stupid (continue sprite, really?) but for the most part the questions are all those that the fans are really asking without the PR wall.

Granted he's also being a douche. So much of the crap it petty, fanboyish and really rude.

  18. I the only problems really were the fact that Ken was interrupted when it sounded like he was about to say something important.
It was also on the whole, really improfessional. I mean, "Wave your hand at the camera". What kind of interviewer says that?
It did provide some insight as to some of the questions we were asking, but the interruptions just ruined most of it.

Ken had a serious "wtf" look on his face.

Also, lol at the Megamix and Donkeykong question. The look on Ken's face when he was asked them, was priceless

Probably because that interviewer looks like he needs to get out more. What's up with the hood.

  20. "Wave to the camera" was great!
