Depends on what you mean by 'successful'. Like I said, financially speaking, it probably will be, as most Sonic games generally sell well.

Now will that mean that the game is good? Eh. It really rides on the team making necessary changes to the engine. Making the overall experience more enjoyable and authentic. Until then, I suspect it'll be painfully mediocre, at best.

And some people will enjoy what they're getting here anyway. Hell, I might even have a little fun with it, if only just for playable Super Sonic in levels again. It's a novelty thing.

But I still think Sonic 4 can do better. Hopefully it will. If not, oh well, the wizards at Retro keeps me pretty entertained with Sonic hacks so not all is lost. :v:

Eh, I've kinda lost hope in this game, unfortunately. I gave it a shitton of chances but honestly, this just looks lackluster. I mean, it doesn't look like the worst game in the world, but everything about it just seems lazy. The graphics are lazy, the physics range from alright to downright broken at times, the music seems alright but the instruments used suck eggs, etc. The level design looks alright to me and I appreciate the homage to classic Sonic games with it's style, but overall it just looks cheap.

  3. It is.
It seems that SEGA are favouring Sonic Colours over this, as it clearly has a larger budget and more work put into it.

  4. This will be a tremendous success to the general gaming public, and places like IGN will give it top marks. If, however, by the time of the final episode's release, there is not a noticeable improvement in quality, reviewers will likely stop being so favorable and everyone will dismiss it as "well I never liked it".

Honestly, I don't even know if I'm going to buy this anymore, I'm definitely picking up Colors though. In fact, my friend and I are fucking nerding out the night before by watching the Sonic OVA and playing as much classic Sonic as possible, then the next day we're picking up our preordered copies then playing and beating the game whilst donning our Sonic pre-order hats. Fuck yeah, which I could say the same for Sonic 4, but whatever.

    Doing absolutely nothing
I already decided I wasn't going to buy or play it awhile ago. Colors looks nicer than this, but even then Colors will probably only be a decent game. Nothing "franchise saving" of course.

I do have new found hope for Sonic 4, knowing that updates are coming soon.

But right now... Sonic 4 seems fun, but not, as Ken would say "Sonic 4 as you imagined it". It'll be a great kick start Sonic has needed after the many poor games Sonic Team have churned out, and I'm sure most reviewers will give it good scores. It looks like a lot of fun to play, but it has so much wrong that it can't really be considered a true Sonic 4. The things Dimps have done with speed boosters, physics, automation, uncurling, it's basically like importing the Rush engine to HD with slight modifications. And Rush was fun, don't get me wrong, but it's not what you want from "Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the successor of the great trilogy".

Here's hoping for fixes in the updates. <:

I don't know for sure if I'm going to buy it yet. I'll definitely need to try the demo first.

I always look forward to what new levels 2-D Sonic games bring to the mix. Seeing as how Episode 1 is largely just re-imaginings of earlier stages in the series, it's harder for me to be excited. While I like the way the stages look, I'm looking forward more to Episode II, as that's hopefully when we'll get out of this "We're re-acquainting you with the classic feel!" concept.

As far as this episode goes, I'll probably wind up downloading it, but how quickly I do will likely depend on the demo.

Downloadable games tend to sell far fewer copies than retail games, the top sellers usually only do a few hundred thousand. People still seem to prefer shopping in brick and mortar stores, that, or maybe the word about the game doesn't get around as much as it should.

The thing about most of Dimps's Sonic games that sticks out to me is how they're fun for a small amount of time and then begin to inspire acute apathy. I dunno if this is what happened to anyone else, but I wonder if it might influence the game's sales given the demo. Will it manage to hold on for long enough to make people invest in it or will people be tired of it before the end.

I actually have reason to believe that my thing about Dimps games seems to hold true: Almost everyone who has played it at an event has liked it but anyone who has had a significant amount of time with it seems to dislike it.

Considering he said "possibly as soon as next week", you're all really jumping the gun.

Today is the day I'm ending the feedback on the thread - that's all for now. :)

Based on that, I'll work with our teams to lock down which updates and when to reveal. There's a lot of planning that goes into even just revealing the smallest of updates, so the next step is to finalize that, if that's what most people want to see.

I know everyone is hungry for any kind of new info, and we are transitioning the website out of Splash Hill next week, so my advice is just to chill a bit, enjoy a couple chili dogs, and watch for things as they arrive.
