Ah, so you just proved the physics in Sonic 4 are worse than in Rush. Okay then.

Well yes, that was the point from the start.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
Oh, stuff it down a drainpipe. I'm having fun talking about all this nitpicky engine stuff. :specialed:

    Haha, as am I.

But I don't get the point in saying the physics are "better" or "worse" than rush based on how much sense they make. Sure, he's standing on the side of a wall. In sonic 1, 2, and 3 you can roll in a half pipe and get higher each time somehow. Also, you can fall from a high height and bounce back up to where you were after hitting an enemy. You could skid on ceilings and walls, did it really ever make sense?

I don't know how many times it's been said on Retro now, but about as much sense as a supersonic blue hedgehog.

  6. This is what I tried to say earlier. Whether or not Sonic can stand on a slope is COMPLETELY Irrelevant to the gameplay. Really, I would only have thought the Tech members would have had such a discussion, as, well they program stuf like this regularly. But thats besides the point.
What I mean to say is, if Sonic Doesn't roll down the hill at a steep angle, won't really make much of a difference. At the end of the day, its Sonic the Hedgehog, the whole point of this game is to get from beginning to end as fast as humanly possible,I don't care what you say about speed should be broken by platforming, at the end of it all, you still replay it to see how fast you can complete an act.

What I think you guys are failing to realize most of all is why there is so much slope leniency—so those very formations with the sloped curves don't have a chance of making you fly off into nothingness when Sonic is traversing on an angle steeper than 45 degrees. This is why that weird inverse external loop worked in Sonic Crackers and not in any other classic Sonic game. It's a necessary evil to properly allow the style of level design the game uses. I'm sure they're very aware of it.

Anyway, can we stop talking about this crap, please? You've proven that each engine has a different way of interacting with slopes. Congratulations. It bears little relevancy to the topic as a whole.

What zone clichés do you think will make it into the next episodes? Perhaps something like...

    Episode 1:
    -Tropical
    -Water
    -Casino
    -Metallic base
    -Boss rush

    Episode 2:
    -Woods
    -Chemical
    -Snow
    -Speedway
    -Boss rush

    Episode 3:
    -Ruins
    -Desert
    -Sky base
    -Space
    -Boss rush

    ?

You see, posting a load of pretty pictures involving angles and colours and "safe" areas had me thinking there was going to be some kind of point that Sonic CD/the classic games in general allow the characters to stand at precarious angles (someone else can probably explain it better but not to me), but instead it was the usual arse about broken Sonic Rush physics which we all knew anyway, thus proving absolutely nothing

    I've got a general idea.

For episode 2 it will go something like this:
    Sonic 3 Rip Off
    Sonic 2 Rip Off
    Sonic 3 Rip Off
    Sonic 2 Rip Off

Episode 3 will be a little more creative and mix things up:
    Sonic 2 Rip Off
    Sonic & Knuckles Rip Off
    Sonic 2 Rip Off
    Sonic & Knuckles Rip Off

Well, it was more relevant when it was a direct response to that thread on the Sega forums, but it wasn't really about the physics being broken and such. But Tweaker's already shot down this line of debate, so...

    @ Chimpo

What? No Sonic CD love? :(

Sega never gives Sonic CD any love these days. Sumo put Sonic CD Japanese tracks in All Stars racing, but that's a 3rd party decision... Even in the initial Sonic 4 trailer, they only mentioned Sonic 1, 2, and 3 and Knuckles.

Technically they only mentioned 1, 2, and 3. There wasn't any S&K in the trailer, either.

And actually I could have sworn I saw a little Wacky Workbench mixed in with Mad Gear's aesthetic, but maybe I was just imagining it.

Well, + - Metal Sonic is confirmed for Episode 2   , so perhaps some Sonic CD love isn't too much of a stretch.

I'd really rather them just get their rehashing out of the way with Episode 1 and make a totally new game from here on out, though.

Bah, + - Metal Sonic gets more than enough love whether Sonic CD does or not,   so that's not really saying much.

  16. I don't know what SEGA or Dimps are gonna do for the TRUE final boss.
They may have a few rehashed Final Bosses in the Episodes 1-3 for the people who don't get the emeralds.
But I mean for the Proper final Boss ala Doomsday Zone, Moon Zone, True Area 53 (Doomsday 2.0), Nonaggression etc.
I know its gonna be in space, as is usually the case with and 2D Sonic game.

I hope its on Mars or a fight above Saturn (A little tribute to the SEGA Saturn). I think any Final Boss would be epic if there was Saturn in the Background.

Or if the fight took place on Saturn's ring system (a base on a large rock within the ring system) with a huge horizon of Saturn as the background, sunlight peering over it, scattering out across a thin veil of atmosphere.

    ...in my dreams :v:

I predict Metal Sonic Kai 2.0, in space. As Uber Sonic.

I'm hoping Episode 2 is less of a rehash, DIMPs obviously has the ability to do original things (vertical corkscrews (Sonic Rush), antigravity walls (Sonic Rush), run on walls (Sonic Advance 1 and 2), speed tubes (Sonic Advance 2; from that ice level) etc.

I'm calling an Oil Ocean rehash for Episode 2 at least.
