Yes bigger, but it is the angle that will decide Sonic's speed and slip. And angles are unaffected by scale.

I noticed that in the classics it's not as steep as sonic 4. But in sonic 4 he stands on the side, and at that angle in sonic rush he'll just roll down if you try to duck, I've tried it. He can crouch at a steep angle but not nearly as steep as in sonic 4.

So basically it's even worse in Sonic 4? Or maybe it's because of the larger weird slopes in Sonic 4. Anyway, there's no way Sonic can stand still on a vertical surface, much less crouch on one in the classics.

To be fair, the slope in sonic 4 wasn't completely vertical. It looks more extreme because he's tilted correctly though, in the classics he's always straight up when standing still or crouching.

Going back a few replies, it's true the diverging slope is glitchy, but it allows progress in height without allowing for vertical moment building, like the inverse case. The converging slope that allowed reaching higher places with that extra physics help. If they fixed the physics associated with that crappy slope, then there wouldn't be any problem, and it would be a fair way of contructing parts of the levels without always resorting to an angled slope. I don't remember it ever being used with that intention though, but I don't know the Rush games all that much to be honest.

  6. Whilst I agree that being able to stand on a steep slope is pretty fucking retarded, I do think that it will be fixed, if the SEGA peeps are looking around in this thread.
However, I don' think that something like this will make the game unplayable or utterly shit, at worst it'll make things a little easier, but thats it.
To be honest, I think these complaints, whilst absolutely valid, won't really affect the game too much, sure some of you Tech Members will be urked by it, but thats because you expect perfection, I know for a fact its isn't going to be perfect, no games are ever perfect.

Well I'm afraid that all signs point to this game being complete. Infinity himself told me the game was complete in the IRC. He wouldn't specify, but he got the game from someone else, and that person assured him that it was the final build. Sure, that person could be wrong, but I don't think it's safe to assume they'll fix anything at this point.

Yes. He wants to have a global sized version of that nightmare land! =P

  9. This proves he still has ambitions for that. This then HAS to be before Sonic Unleashed!

Doesn't mean it's immediately before, he said the same thing in Sonic Rush...

I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
Eggmanland's been his goal for ages. This is nothing new.

I don't remember that ever being about speed (but then I wasn't on these forums at the time), all I remember is people complaining about Sonic's running animation being stiff and awkward, and about Sonic's character model not being the classic Pudgy Sonic design. The only remarks about speed I ever heard during that time were the occasional "He looks slow" comments from people who probably just weren't used to his speed in the Genesis games.

I don't think it's safe to assume they won't, either, based on second-hand assurances that are now third-hand assurances coming from you. We'll see what happens when it happens.

Eggmanland in this game? To be honest I'd actually expect a rehash of the Death Egg but you know, Iizuka said that this was Modern Sonic so what can you expect?

It doesn't mean Eggmanland will be in this game, it just means that's his ultimate objective. It's been that way since SA1 at the absolute earliest.

The reason it means this is before Unleashed is because in Unleashed he actually succeeded in creating Eggmanland, and this says "finally" meaning this takes place before. But that shouldn't be surprising since it was already said this takes place directly after sonic 3 and knuckles.

  14. JKO at the Sega Forums brought this up to compare how truly bad the physics are for Sonic 4.

This is Sonic CD. Note he is standing upright on the curve.

Now lets add a Protractor to see the exact angles
    [IMG]

Now according to true Sonic Physics, anything below 45 degrees will fall. This is highlighted here. The green zone is ok, the red zone is fall.

With that shown lets compare to Sonic Rush.

    Same Protractor...

And now the green/red zones from the Classic Physics.

Sonic is WAYYY in the red zone. This equals bad physics and not near the Sonic classics.

Now with those two shown, lets compare with Sonic 4. This is from Mad Gear Zone and Flipped.

Protractor Added with Classic Physic Green/red zones.

Basically...its using Sonic Rush's Engine, slightly modified.

  15. Yeah but the last pictures aren't really proof, they've been drawn. I'd like to see something like that with an actual screenshot. It would make things so much easier.

It is probably as you said, a MODIFIED Rush engine, from what I've seen the momentum based gameplay is there, and much better than with Rush, so I doubt the physics are completely broken.
Also, its like I said earlier, being able to do this isn't going to ruin the game forever, its just a bug, plenty of games other than Sonic 4 have bugs. I've never seen any other game being nitpicked (for lack of a better word), than this game.

We all need to relax, the game won't be perfect, but I'm pretty sure it'll be fun.

Yeah, JKO's comparison shots definitely did a good job of showing the difference.

EDIT: The pictures were drawn rather than screencapped because the Sega forums don't like leaked images.

Oh, I thought you were going to show Sonic's ability to stand in the so-called "red" in the classic games or something. Instead you basically proved nothing

    What? How so?

Did his explanations get invalidated somehow?

He proved that Sonic 4's using an engine closer to the rush engine, than the classic engines. That IS proving a point.

    The physics could be worse.

Though to be fair, standing on a 45 degree slope is a bit impressive. I couldn't do it.
