F4F 25th Anniversary Piece finally revealed

JonoD of TSS and I had a part in designing this piece, as far as working on the the initial idea and providing feedback through the 2D and 3D stages. The piece went through a bunch of changes, including actually deciding the feet would be sculpted and the pose. We really wanted to get a wheel-o-feet effect in, and we settled on the peel-out because a typical wheel would look incredibly awkward in 3D with either two wheels wither side of his body having his entire body rest on one giant wheel. But in CD, Sonic's legs disappear and his feet basically become a ribbon in the peel-out, so that would also look kinda meh. So the entire effect was based upon Lost World's running animation. The pose itself is actually not classic at all... it's from the Advance games.

What do you think? Of course we just helped with the brainstorming and gave ideas on the the piece through it's development. Neither of us actually got our hands dirty since we don't have the skills. It was Alex and the artist that really brought it to life. It was fun to be involved though!

My only regret is that Mania was kept so tightly under wraps that we didn't have the option to use Studiopolis. The Green Hill base looks awesome with all the detail added though - I'm totally happy with it.

Regular version: no lights, no motor in the sign. The sign can be taken out and turned around to display either Sonic or Eggman in their original sprite form.

Exclusive version: lights with various settings, motor to rotate the sign, built in rechargeable LED battery and swap-out magnetic face-plates for the sign with official artwork instead of sprites.

I absolutely loved this statue. It's definitely above and beyond from the original concept and I'm glad the decision to change it got us this.

While having a Classic Sonic statue with a Studiopolis base/theme would be cool, I don't think it would've clicked with the anniversary theme.

Maybe a diorama with Sonic being launched out of the SegaSonic popcorn machine with Studiopolis in the background (or something like that) can be done in the future though.

Studiopolis was never even considered or brought up as an idea properly - it was just my personal choice. By the time Mania came along, we'd long since settled on GHZ and spent a while perfecting it. The thing is, we had originally decided not to go with GHZ on the original statue that got canned because so many people, myself included, have seen enough of GHZ; the original Classic Sonic statue and the 20th Anniversary ones were both based on it. But that just begged the question of what else would be fitting for something so iconic. Another S1 stage like Marble or Starlight? Not quite iconic enough. A stage from another game? Well, it wouldn't be representing 25 years then even if the stage was iconic. GHZ was the only choice left, and it's leaps and bounds above the previous ones with its rocky texturing and individual blades of grass. It's definitely Generations' Green Hill rather than S1. I still think Studiopolis could have worked really well though, simply because Mania is part of the 25th Anniversary and a return to Classic form. But your comment is proof enough that we're not a hivemind. GHZ was definitely the right choice. It also works best for colour balance.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm getting the exclusive edition. It's way to awesome to pass up.

I feel so damn conflicted about this F4F 25th Anniversary Statue. I have so many expenses in my life at the moment, and I just feel that dropping that kind of money on yet another figure is borderline reckless. It's so expensive, like putting a dishwasher on the bookshelf. On top of that it's awfully big, and I'm not sure where I'll put it. I've also had issues in the past with the functional elements of the figures not functioning. I know what I ought to do, and I know what I probably will... :psyduck:

Well I got mine preordered! Once it gets shipped I'll have a statue for each big anniversary:10th,15th,20th and 25th.

Not only are the first4figures statues so expensive, but my main problem is they are also way too big to put anywhere. The eggman one especially hurts as I really love it but it's the size of a small child! If they could make half sized versions of some of their statues for cheaper I'd be all over them. For now I;m sticking with my Sonic, Super Sonic and Metal Sonic I got from them before the prices and size of their statues started to balloon.

Well, as expected I ordered the exclusive statue the moment orders opened up. But this is a good thing, because needing a spot for this wedding cake sized figure will necessitate a new display cabinet! I'm really looking forward to the built-in battery. The other figures require batteries, which are inserted into the bottom of the base. And naturally you don't want to leave batteries in your nice figures, because they can corrode over time. So flipping the figures over each use is unrealistic, and therefore my figures are basically never turned on...

OMG ! ! It's Chaos Emerald Candy! ! ! Besides being on Sonic's mind all the time, This is also the only thing Metal Sonic has inside his shiny metal head.

Hah, I bought one of those in St Louis a couple of years ago. Have the long-empty tin on the desk in front of me back home.

Despite resisting past F4F figures, I ordered the 25th Anniversary one. Too cool to turn down. Very pricey though. Now to find a place for it..

Can somebody please explain to me why something like the limited series print from Skuzzles is a worthwhile purchase (or not)?

I think the picture is decent enough, but what differentiates this from some ordinary rolled paper poster you'd buy at Walmart? Ok, so there will be less of them, but are they of better quality, or on special paper, or anything? Can a man put this on his wall with any dignity, or is this just some cheap poster an 8 year old would have on his wall, but $40 more expensive.

Is anyone here planning on getting this? If so why or why not?

It's basically the paper that's high quality and the printing process that makes it more expensive than the $5-10 posters you get at Target or Walmart.

I'm definitely getting the metallic ink edition since it's not that expensive compared to other places.

The Knuckles art on that poster is hella wonky.

Well god damn, I lost track of time, and by the time I signed onto Skuzzels (about 20 minutes after sales opened) the damn exclusive version had sold out :(

Wow, I had no idea that this thing would see out so quickly. I'm a bit bummed out - I hate limited edition runs that punish you for not being available at the right now. I wanted a bit of time to consider whether or not to buy this. Though on reflection, Knuckles and Tails look really ugly, and would probably have been enough to sway me from buying it anyway.

The regular version is still available, it's limited too though. I bought the exclusive version, but the only thing that bugs me is that the artist used stock art for Sonic and just changed the eye.

The rest I'm okay with enough to buy it.

I'd rather have the special edition if anything. But like I said, I'm not entirely sold on the art. The more I look at it, the less I like it. All of the characters look weirdly off-model apart from Eggman. And the Modern Motobug amongst Classic everything else is a bigger issue than it should be.

But I stand by my opinion that the format for limited editions like this is really harsh and unfair, especially when the limited quantities are this low.

Have there been any other limited edition/series Sonic prints, in association with Sega? I'm sure there probably have been, but I don't know of any...
