The Sonic Crossover Theory

  1. I've been thinking this over for a long time and I think it's ready to be put to the test.

    Basically, I feel like the Sonic characters are so numerous and extended at this point that you could very easily insert them into any other medium and it would fit in. A character for each role that would be at least relatively suited to them. I even wanted to do a flash series of inserting Sonic characters into various movie trailer parodies. But I don't have the time to draw that shit so this thread will have to do.

    So go ahead. Pick a franchise, a series, a comic book, a movie, a book, anything you could think of and tell how you would manage to insert Sonic characters in the most complete way possible.

    To start:

    The Matrix. Why not? Lots of action, high speed, robots. There's other reasons it works though. For example the story line of machines versus nature can be easily parodied through SatAM. Sonic of course fits the role of Neo and Sally for Trinity. Tails could serve the role of the two operators (I forget both names but one is Tank). Morpheus is Knuckles without a doubt. Tikal can fit the Oracle. Robotnik would make a pretty entertaining architect. Agent Smith would have to Shadow of course and I could see Vector, Mighty, and Espio filling the spot for the other agents. Unfortunately I can't remember everything I worked out, but I did think out a pretty through casting list. I know I had a place for Nack but it doesn't come to mind right now.

    In any case, there ya go. What do you guys have? (Note: Feel free to insert them into real historical events too if you really want to. That could be a bit of fun.)

    I was actually playing around with the idea of crossing over the Sonic universe with Ayreon's Rock Opera 'Into the Electric Castle'.
    With Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as the Knight, the Hippie and the Roman respectively, Silver as the Futureman, Amy and Rouge as the Egyptian and the 'Native American', Shadow as the Highlander, and either Bark or Robotnik as the Barbarian.
    With Metal Sonic revealing himself as 'Forever' at the end of the album.

  5. I wouldn't classify it as Tezuka's Star System, since that specifically states the the character models aren't matched to archtypes - an "actor" can have completely different roles and personalities depending on the work.

    Most "Crossover" things of this style tend to characterize more on similarities than whether a "model" fits.

    A good few years ago, a friend of mine experimented with a series of horror crossovers with Sonic in script format, all of which worked surprisingly well, partly due to his excellent grip of the characters. They were actually what re-energised my love of the Sonic series, and so I never miss an opportunity to plug them.

    Jason VS Sonic tied in to the end of Jason X, where he comes crashing down into a lake on "Earth 2". He adapted this to being Never Lake, and Earth 2 being the setting for the Sonic games, which I wholeheartedly ripped off for my own stories.

    I'm gonna go with the fucking obvious here and say Dragon Ball, especially since a lot of Sonic characters are based off that series.

    Son Goku: Sonic
    Vegeta: Shadow
    Trunks: Silver
    Piccolo: Knuckles
    Son Gohan: Tails
    Chichi: Amy
    And of course, Super Saiyans are the Super forms in Sonic and the Dragon Balls are the Chaos Emeralds.

    Just to name a few. They're not necessarily identical, but damn are some of those close.

    You need the PC version of Team Fortress 2, and join a modded server wich has the custom hats plugin and the models. I made both the plugin and the Sonic hat (the Eggman one is made by SefirotDB) for my clan's TF2 server but they're public for everyone who has a TF2 Sourcemod server.

    Speaking of TF2 Sonic, it might be better to split the characters into two teams, fitting the BLU/RED - Hero/Dark settings. For instance, Sonic/Shadow as scouts, Tails/Eggman as engineers, Espio/Rouge as spies, etc.

    While I suppose this isn't quite a crossover, I would love to see the characters in a Sin City inspired setting. Not really with the amount of violence, but in terms of style and effect.

    Having said that, it would be interesting if a Sonic game was developed where each stage, instead of being strictly divided by their environment, instead adhered to a certain style taking inspiration from different mediums, such as the ones named in this topic. A post-apocalyptic themed area, a steampunk themed area, a film noir themed area, and so-on and so-forth. It would certainly offer some interesting stage design, at the very least.

    Some of these are stretching it, I know. Assuming Bean and Bark are evil... but I think they were in the Archie comic?
