I think it best to step back and take stock of the successes and mistakes in this thing anyway. If there's a chance it can resume some time soon, I'm sure you guys will know exactly what targets to hit without any misses. It sounds like 360 has a clear idea of a better approach.

Thanks for the post either way, Stealth. Vague or otherwise, some (potentially/possibly/maybe/kinda) relavent news is better than none.

Truth be told, it may be beyond our realm of control now anyway. I don't think Sega is completely oblivious to the demand/profit this title could make, but there are clearly barriers stopping its production that we can only guess at. The fact that Stealth says we need to desist means, whatever those barriers are, they need to be dealt with internally.

Again, this could all have absolutely nothing to do with our campaign. It could be Sega tackling the music issue internally regardless of their intention to let StealthTax work on the title, or even a broader legal issue with Jackson's music as a whole (not just in Sonic 3). It could be related to their restructuring and deciding the future of their mobile division, again, literally nothing directly related to Sonic 3, but continuing with the campaign now could somehow be seen in a negative light? Not sure. It could be some other financial hubbub we know nothing about.

    On a separate subject...

This decision to Release Sonic 2 on the 3DS has me curious. I'm going to sadly guess this is NOT the StealthTax version? Perhaps the debate relates to that now, and the portability future of the existing remakes in general.

The 3DS games are done by a different team (M2). They seemed to have come from Sega Japan, while the mobile games are from Sega Networks.

Personally, I find Sega Japan's approach to be a little bit silly. M2 seemed to have worked miracles to get the Sonic games on 3DS. As the 3DS games are emulated, features like the Spin Dash are quite an ordeal to add. Plus, they can't have any of the features of the Remastered games such as widescreen display and extra characters.

Surely instead of Sega Japan releasing their own version, it would have made more sense for the company to work with Sega Networks, Taxman and Stealth to port the retro engine over to the 3DS. I know little about engines, so perhaps there is some technical limitation. But on the surface, it looks like it would have been a much better use of resources and would have created a superior product.

I'd hope I'm not lumped into that crowd. :colbert: 73 pages, though, where has the time went with this thing? Didn't quite realize it was a near the mega thread tier until now.

Let's hope SEGA learned their lessons finally, and port Saxman's build to the 3DS. No one here, or around the world, is willing to play an emulated, clearly slow and inferior version of the original

Let's be fair to M2. They make fantastic, high-quality releases. Their 3D Classics releases have been delightful. Between their Sonic 1 and Sonic 1 Remastered, I'd pick the latter any day of the week, but I can't think of many times they've released a product that was inferior to the original.

^ I'm criticising Sega Japan and not M2. Like I said, M2 worked miracles with Sonic 1 3D, so they are obviously are very talented. But it seems silly for all that talent to be spent on something that was always going to be inferior. (Yes, I know Sonic 1 3DS is superior to the Mega Drive original, but the Taxman/Stealth version has raised the bar).

If SoJ had used their brains, M2's skills could have been better utilised and consumers would have had a better product.

I think the chance of the seeing the Taxman/Stealth version on 3DS is low, as a large chunk of the potential audience will have purchased the M2 version and so will probably be unwilling to pay again. Plus, if SoJ were going to learn their lessons, they would have done so after Sonic 1 3DS.

    I have faith in M2.

I'd like to see a preview though. A Sonic 1 remaster in 3D model/Vector combo done right would be nice.

I'm sure that M2's take on Sonic 2 will be good. Their version of S1 would be the best if not for the mobile remaster. The annoying thing is that we now have versions of S1, 2 and CD that are superior to the originals and subsequent re-release in every way, but SoJ is still tailing behind with emulations. I'll think twice about buying S2 3D, but you'd have to really try hard to convince me not to buy the StealthTax version on any platform I could. SEGA should get it ported to 3DS and the rest rather than continue what M2 are doing.

It's SoJ's wacky decisions which makes me nervous as to which versions of Sonic 1, 2 & CD will eventually make it to PS4 & Xbox1. The StealthTax versions should obviously be used but try telling that to SoJ. I'm sure those games will be brought to current-gen consoles at some point. SEGA still seem hell bent on bringing the classics to every device under the sun.

Just wondering if there's any movement regarding the campaign. I know it's been on hold for a few months (at Stealth's request). I've noticed lately Stealth has been a bit more vocal on twitter. I.e. giving the occasional subtle hint to SEGA about Sonic3Remastered.

The number of signatures is still increasing, be it very slowly. Currently at 8842.

  15. Until given any notice from Stealth, nothing in being done.

We're holding off on taking any further action until given further notice from Stealth. The campaign will remain dormant until we hear from him.

I'm quite surprised that signatures are increasing, as I was expecting the lack of promotion to have killed it off.

Interestingly, most of the traffic is coming from Josh's video. However, there are also mini surges of interest from some of the more niche blog articles that 360 and myself got published. This is especially surprising, as I wouldn't have thought people would still be reading old articles! I guess it shows some people take a while to respond.

^ Sega are holding a Game Symphony which will have a special Sonic programme. It will play music from all the key Mega Drive Sonic games, except for Sonic 3, which further reinforces the legal issues theory.

EDIT: Also Microsoft is asking for which 360 games should be emulated on Xbox One. Sonic 3 is on the list. If Stealth gives the go ahead, we might consider asking them to bring Sonic 3 Remastered. It's a long shot, but worth a try.

Those are probably new fans of mine looking through my archives. I can de-list the video if you want, seeing as we're holding.

Keep it up, at least for now. It's not like it's currently receiving a huge push or any major mainstream attention, so better to let it quietly gather support in the instance we can relaunch it.

Yes, I agree with Nova, I wouldn't delist it. Even though the campaign's dormant, it's good for it to still awareness. That way, we will have something to build on for the relaunch.
