Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Shit, I don't have a single idea. This isn't my strongpoint. Posting on Retro is all I can do.

we could promote it on other sites we go to as well, including Devient art, the SRB2 Message board (video games section), and other places.

Every time the campaign appears on TSZZ, it has a sharp spike for a few days, so posting it again on Retro would be a good idea.

Like I've said before, success isn't going to come from one big idea, but the combination of lots of micro ideas that build up over time.

  5. This is quite simple, to be honest, but what do you guys think of having Youtubers embedding a link to the campaign site on their videos?

One idea I had was to make a voiceless version of my video, and let any other YouTuber who'd like to record their own voiceover for it. That'd give them a short, informative trailer with very little time out of their own work, and most importantly, it'd still be them talking to their own audience.

Glad to see this thread still alive and kicking. Evidently many of us are still energetic and devoted to keeping the campaign alive and that's definitely positive.

One thing I wanted to note is that I'm starting to understand where the wave of negativity in the NeoGAF thread came from. Some users on there were enthusiastic and supportive but the vast majority of users expressed dismay at the idea of this being a mobile only game. Those comments washed over me at the time because I'd never had a mobile device with sufficient capability to play the remastered Sonic titles. I now have a Z3 Compact so of course as a hardcore Sonic fan the first thing I did was download Sonic CD and Sonic 2. They're absolutely wonderful and beautifully realised remasters that Sega would never develop without hiring dedicated fans but one thing that struck me as I was playing them: the games are not as fun with touch controls. Sonic games need a controller and though there are ways of getting around it (such as owning an Xperia Play) the vast majority of users are going to be forced to use touch controls.

And ultimately I think this might be why we're finding it so damn near impossible to get other people as excited about this as we are. Most of the comments in the NeoGAF thread amounted to "I'd be interested in this if there were ports to consoles" and I think the fact that we can't guarantee that and can only promise it as a possibility down the line; pushing this first and foremost as a mobile release; this might be why we've found it so challenging to gain traction and why the petition signatures are so limited. Also of note is the press attention. The sites most interested in our efforts were mobile focused sites (Touch Arcade, Pocket Gamer and so on). Had this release been positioned as something destined for consoles from the outset; I think we would have then seen attention from the larger sites. It was a miracle IGN posted that article. And that was only because I had the personal email of one of their high-level staff members.

The point that I'm making is that this isn't a lack of interest in the classic Sonic titles that the vast majority of people who were alive back then openly and deeply adore and admire; this is a lack of interest in playing a Sonic game on a platform people feel is inferior to consoles that have real controls. If we could somehow re-position the campaign as a remastered Sonic 3 that could potentially come to "all devices" we might find there would be much more interest. The Nintendo deal that Stealth noted has now expired and therefore so has the barrier between Sonic titles being ported to consoles. Could we somehow emphasise that this effort is about getting Sonic 3 remastered on as many systems as possible? I'm just thinking out loud here because it has just dawned on me (now that I've actually played the previous remasters) why the mood over on NeoGAF and elsewhere was so disheartening and negative.

People would be far more interested in this remaster if we could somehow position it as a game that is targeted for release on consoles. I can actually prove it too. If I posted a new updated thread on NeoGAF saying a console release was guaranteed watch the thread get three times the replies and be overwhelmed with excitement and support.

    Thoughts everyone?

Okay so if it's genuinely a case of the platform holding back support then it's really up to Stealth and Taxman to present these findings to Sega. An argument in it's favour could be using the Resident Evil Remake on Gamecube vs the HD Remake multi platform scenario. This in my mind is the last option we have at getting S3 developed. Perhaps having all the HD remasters in a single release on console would help interest more.

I think someone said earlier that Sega signed an exclusivity deal with Nintendo, so the next x number of console Sonic games have to be WiiU/3DS exclusive. Presumably this deal has some sort of time limit though. Mobile games are unaffected.

I thought that was just a three-game deal, right? And since they've done four Sonic games on Nintendo devices (Lost World, Sonic Boom, and the 3DS versions of each), the deal may be over.

I think 360 is right, though. I hear a LOT of flak being thrown at mobile devices. And while I personally think Sonic, due to its simplicity, works just fine on a touchscreen, a controller would always be preferable. In any case, we're not going to get the support of the old-school gamers we NEED to make this happen if it looks like we're inexplicably campaigning for the game to come to mobile. I mean, think about how that looks from the outside, especially when there's this perception that Sonic has already been ported to everything under the sun.

We're lucky that we have a precedent in Sonic CD coming out on more traditional devices. And if we push the engine upgrades and unique features, and get people on-board with 1, 2, and 3 coming to PC/consoles, we would definitely have better support.

Really have to say that it's hilariously insulting that you not only think it's that simple, but that we wouldn't have the intelligence to already have tried something like that :/

    ----

Ok, so, here's a thing. Something has come up that may or may not have relevant reprecussions, and I think that it would be appropriate to ask you to put this campaign on hold, or at least avoid any more press for the time-being, by which I mean not only major press sites and such, but also popular youtube users, etc. It's not really something I can talk about, but it seems that pushing the issue further right now would be a bad idea

Don't get the wrong idea; nothing has changed regarding Sonic 3's status - there has been no approval, we have done and are doing no more work, and, to my knowledge, nothing has happened such that the remaster seems any more or any less likely to be approved

    Still, please stand by

10-4, Stealth, thanks for the update. Hoping whenever you can tell us, it turns out to be good news.

Thank you for the positive, supportive and intelligent responses everyone regarding my post. Initially I was hesitant to post it but I genuinely felt like it was something that needed to be said so I'm glad it had a somewhat positive impact here. It at least got some of us thinking and putting our minds together. Appreciate the feedback.

And thank you Stealth for the update. Given you're the most important person in this entire campaign (I still firmly believe we would have never got anywhere to start with if it wasn't for your efforts and support) I think it's highly important we respect your wishes and follow your advice. So personally as someone who was avidly trying to generate press attention for quite some time I'll cease all campaign efforts as per the instructions of your post. I'm certain when Big Smile sees this he'll do exactly the same. Evidently something Sega related has come up though I also understand the necessity of the cryptic nature of your post; it's not something you have the capability to talk about with us yet.

Appreciate the update and good advice. All I'd ask is that if and when you have the capability to inform us of anything new, please do.

Yes, I wont push it any more at this end (Other than prayer!! [Just kidding]).

I'll still leave the site up (but not update it) and I'll leave social media channels up (I'll probably also respond to any questions on the social media channels). I think that should be okay, but if I need to stop these let me know.

I think emphasising the multiplatform aspect is a good idea. Incidentally, I was working on an new YouTube video which emphasized multiple platforms, but I will put it on hold for now (which is handy for me, as I was pressed for time on it).

Hope everything works out for Stealth and Taxman!

I don't know what you have done behind the scene so I can't presume anything and it's not a case of me thinking it's that simple, I was thinking it's the only thing left now that the petition numbers have slowed down and we have hard data on people's opinions why they won't support it.

Unfortunate to hear, but at least it's coming at a time where the campaign is stalling as opposed to at full momentum. Hopefully whatever is shaking out might end up working in the game's favor, if it's what I imagine it might be.

I'm willing to bet it's something related to the music issues, because that is virtually the only aspect concerning Sonic 3 & Knuckles that people related to or fully informed to the game's development are almost conditioned to not speak about for some reason when questioned about it. That and it seems to be the only stumbling block concerning any future ports / remasters / recognition for Sonic 3 & Knuckles by this point that doesn't pertain to Sega's general apathy for the games themselves.

Let's not place bets on what it is/isn't.

Let's not sit back and wait for whatever it is/isn't.

Let's not hype ourselves up over whatever it is/isn't.

Let's just put everything on hold as Stealth suggests and just leave it that way until he or another party deems it necessary to bring it up. I can't imagine Stealth posting that with pages upon pages of speculation in mind afterwards, which let's face it, we are liable to do.

    :ssh:

If Stealth says go on stand-by, you won't get any arguments from me.

Something is being discussed. Whatever it is, I hope it clears the path for us to have success at some stage, but the fact that 'something' is being discussed (could be legal, could be internal restructuring, even if it doesn't relate to Sonic 3) is good-ish news.

I will sit here patiently until further notice.

Well, whatever is going down - be it legal stuff or whatever - I hope the result turns out to be positive.

Sonic 3&K deserves to get re-released with StealthTax love, but I think we should prepare ourselves for a long long LONG wait.
