Ok, so let's face it... my days producing fan games are well and truly over. But interestingly enough, I just found out that Joseph Waters (Nitemare) who originally worked with Euan has taken it upon himself to reboot the pre-merger(s) Multimedia Fusion version of the game: I don't know if this is already known but since XG has a bit of a following here and AFAIK Joseph isn't on Retro I thought I'd post it. I don't have anything to do with this, but kudos to Joseph for keeping a promise I can't :v:
Oh baby, baby. That is good news. Altought I have to admit the game doesn't look as good as I remember it being.
I hope he's okay with this...I'm sure he is though. I've kept my mouth shut on the subject for a long time
Oh that takes me back. It'll be nice to see this games completion even if it's not exactly up to quality standards of the modern age. Always loved Sonic XG back in the day. No Tails though huh? Interesting choice.
I'm gonna have to agree with the music. What happened to the soundtrack used in the older demo? Only other thing I'm hoping for is some custom badniks. I am glad that they're using most of the old XG assets though, and a lot of stuff looks borrowed from Nitemares Sonic & Knuckles 2 videos (briefly shown at SFGHQ awhile back), so it seems like it merged with XG. It'll be nice to see a long time fan game finally finished.
First off, Joseph must become apart of the horde. he must be recruited to Retro... Second, I don't know if you can help them but are they coming to you for advice Taxman? After all, you did have a somewhat role in this games progression after it got merged. you may be able to throw them some under the table advice without harming anything. Third, This page needs some updating. And Forth, what ARE you up to Taxman? Spillplzkthx.
I'm kind of hoping they'll keep the boss theme from the demo a while back, but I sort of doubt that. Dunno why, but I really like it. It's nice to see this back up and being worked on again. Let's hope it stays that way till completion this time.
I guess the problem is that for the time, Final Fall was one of the best looking fan-made Sonic levels of all time. The others... don't really compare, which is a shame, but to be expected because they're based on (I assume) unfinished mockups or something. And I'm guessing some of it derives from this? I'm not convinced "standards" have moved on a great deal since then as far as graphics go, but I'd hate to think we've seen the best of the game already. GOLD ZONE doesn't excite me much.
OH DEAR GOD DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!!! I was always hoping someone would revive the project one day, I'm just shocked that it was the original creators, good for them! Interesting they took Tails out but maybe they are working on new sprites for him, who knows? I seriously can't wait to see if this gets finished.
I wasn't actually aware that this was in development until yesterday, but it looks like Joseph is happy enough to go along with what he and Euan originally planned (and some things from his S&K2 it seems). It makes sense, because all the graphics and boss designs are there for him to make use of. The merged version of Retro Sonic Nexus was shaping up to be a different beast (lots of sprite revisions, new Title Card etc): Aside from Final Fall and Wood Works (renamed Wicked Works), pretty much every zone was a new design, taking the best ideas from Retro-Sonic, Nexus and XG. For example, Opal Outback is not the desert zone that appears in this video (nor is it Desert Dazzle either). It was to be an Australian themed zone with desert plains, "Uluru-esque" rock formations and opal mines. Several things actually, short and long term. It's just Joseph on his own I believe, Euan is still credited since he worked on the art/designs for the original XG levels.
Eagerly awaiting to see where this goes, I don't play fangames often but this was one of those rare few that caught my eye back when, I wish the creators the best. I'll get in on the whole music deal too, what happened? :v:
It's not using Sonic Worlds. It's using a homegrown Sonic & Knuckles clone engine. If it has any ties to Worlds, it'll probably be from an older build (circa 2010)
Eagerly looking forward to this. I was wondering what had become of it. Hope we get another demo some time in the future!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAQGPSq3_PA Another trailer got posted up. I do like seeing Tails in, along with the Warehouse music (probably from a game I'm not aware of).
Incredible, as it was expected to be - amazing trailer! Now, I have a comment on the game. What I realize is that in it, the scenarios of all levels are well detailed, including the background of each one. But the same does not seems to be true at the ice level. If you pay attention, you can see that the background is more simple, unnasertive, perhaps tied only to the level in space (however, in that case, it makes some sense to be that way). So, shouldn't the mountains in the background of the level have more detail? Anyway, just a thought. The game already looks amazing, very, very beautiful, and I quite enjoyed the new gimmicks in each stage. Great job!
