I don't think I've seen more than a few things here about the interesting tid-bits, bugs, small changes, and other stuff about Sonic 1, which is why I'm making this thread. Basically, I want to start a discussion about the weird bits of Sonic 1, like, "Why does this do that?" or "Who at Sonic Team allowed this to happen?", etc. If you want to, you can add onto this list. It would be awesome to hear things I and maybe other people never knew about this game. I'll start with this: If you finish a Special Stage (for example, Special Stage 1) and then get a game over, let the demos play, and the special stage demo will load up the Special Stage 1 demo controls in Special Stage 2's stage layout.
I brought this up in the changes and fixes thread 4 years ago but when you game over from drowning, the scroll lock flag gets set, but isn't cleared on the title screen, which results in the title screen not scrolling. I had also recorded video evidence of this back in the day That aside this is such an interesting look back in time for me... I don't even own any of the stuff seen in my room at the time anymore.
A thread for general development oddities would be nice, though a general inquisition about Sonic 1's development would be better in General Sonic Discussion, depending on the nature of the discussion. I encourage you to take a peek at the discourse between Retro and Dean Sitton, one of the game's developers.
