I also hate that system in Sonic CD. The crushing is a bit too unforgiving for my tastes.

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Then why was it fixed in all subsequent releases of Sonic 1 (and non-existant in Sonic 2 onwards)?

You CAN kill them with the insta-shield. I always do it. They are quite easy to dodge anyway because they only move if you move, so I just jump over them.

Anyway, I agree with the Mystic Cave Zone pit to some extent, those spikes do seem useless when you can die from the pit if they weren't there.

  5. That pit is completely useless altogether, spikes or no spikes. All it really does is test your reactions, if that. You could just run down expecting a different route. It still iritates me to this day.
OOZ seahorses used to be a nuisance, but I'm used to them now. The areas they appear in are pretty obvious, so you just jump at them, seeing as they take quite a while to fire at you.
Also, suddenly appearing spikes on long straights, for example in EHZ. They are so unexpected, and if all goes bad, they pop up right from below you.
And basically all of MPZ, LBZ and SBZ.

Unless you've hit a spring near the rotating drum, then they're almost undodgeable unless you jump over the drum. That said, yeah, they're easy to destroy using the instashield, although some timing is needed as usual. Same deal with that badnik in MGz that has spikes all over its body.

I thought the most annoying badnik in Sonic 1 was the green and yellow orbinauts from Star Light Zone. Also the crab like badniks from Metropolis Zone were annoying.

I always play as Sonic in LBZ so that I can get these guys. Of course, the Insta-Shield helps with the grabby-handed boss, too. But as for the MGZ badniks ("Bubbles"), you can't pop them when their spikes are out, Insta-Shield or no. They're totally invincible then, not even Muteki or Super/Hyper can get them. If you're talking about the false spikes, though, the Insta-Shield is good for them (or bad for them as the case may be :P).

Anyway, a spot in Casino Night I've always hated is this:

Don't know why it gives me trouble, but I've been stuck in this spot for a good thirty seconds before. You have to calm down and run out at just the right speed so that the stupid bumper doesn't send you right back in. Ugh.

And the winner of worst placed badnik ever award:

I could point out badniks all over Metropolis Zone, but this one on Metropolis Zone 3 takes the cake. The bumpers bounce you up into the bastard and you have only a very minute amount of room to edge your way to the left so that you don't hit it. If its your first time up, he throws the blades at you even if you are ready for it and don't go all the way in...

The only way to get around this fucker without getting hit is to get a little luck going when first starting into the bumpers so that you can launch over it. But that rarely happens.

  11. Agreed.

Another one: The security lasers in the archways of Launch Base Zone, Act 2. Somehow, I'll always manage to run into one of them while running at full speed without remembering to turn Super.

The only one. The other things you showed here are easy to avoid (IMO).

If I remember right you can hold down jump so your spring height is much better on bouncing, and you can fly right over that badnik most of the time. It's been a while since I ran through that stage without getting bored.

YOU KNOW YOU LOVED THIS ONE

This stupid bastard is located in Act 1. It's very easy to avoid him, but unless you KNOW he's there, he'll get you every time. He just happens to be at the edge right as you propel up the hill.

The raised part in the middle, I've got stuck inside of that on more than one occasion.

  16. I HATE the scorpions in sandopolis. I know there's a pattern to them (wait, then jump when the tail is outta the way), but they always get me when I'm caught off guard. They'll hit me with their tail when I'm trying to move the effin' switch or push the stone across the sand. and then I'm all, "shit! the tail!" and I jump and the thing hits me anyway, somehow or another.

I hate sandopolis as a whole anyway.

Oddly enough if you just hold right you go right past him without colliding.

This little bastard caught me off guard the first time through the underground. Off the bumper and into Crawlton's open claw.

Also, that is the worst gens screenshot ever.
