I honestly don't get why someone so pretentious would accept a gig as the writer of a comic book tie-in for a cartoon based on a game series about funny animals. Did he really expect Sega and Archie to be receptive of him shoehorning convoluted storylines, Christ allegories and tacky Holocaust references in Sonic? He got lucky that they didn't care enough about the Knuckles comic to closely supervise it.
