The internet lies: cheat code edition

Discussion in 'General Sega Discussion' started by Black Squirrel, Jul 9, 2022.

  1. Yes, since it's an MMO there is no real "pause" to speak of; you just bring up the menu and can still move your character around with the analog stick or select menu items with the d-pad and face buttons. You can't attack with the menu up as you use the face buttons for your attacks when the menu is closed. Looking at the article that's perfect! Thank you for adding it.

IIRC, the double saber animation could also be used to do that. I remember having to use the door bug (unarmed, as RAmar) to pass through doors for online guild quests that required a full party to unlock.

can you expound on this? is it a certain animation (like unarmed being the third swing), or do players get moved back after just a single swing animation?

PSO isn't an MMO, it's an RPG with online and offline modes. Does the menu work the same in both modes (ie: not pausing the game)? I believe it does, but my memory is hazy.

  5. PSO is an instanced MMO with party sizes of up to 4. Offline mode is just the same game without other party members. The same tricks worth in both offline and online as it's the same game engine loading the same data.

This is a good way of describing this. I tucked this in PSO's summary.

I think it was also the third swing with double sabers.

A couple new ones for Hardcore 4x4:
    • Debug mode: During gameplay, hold L+R and then press Start to pause. Keep holding L+R, and then press A, B, C, Z, Y, X A, Y, C X, B, Z.
    • Wrong way picture change: First set the race type to Time Trial and name your driver STEVE. Start a race, and pause the game while holding L+R. Keep holding L+R and enter: C, Right, A, Z, Y, B, A, A, B, C, Right, A, Z, Y.
    • Subtly different camera behavior: Pause and enter A, Up, B, Up, C, Up.
    • Center line in viewport: Pause and enter Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down, Z.
    Full details are here.

These aren't in the PlayStation version, nor are the PlayStation Easter eggs in this version.

    ---

Speaking of PlayStation comparisons, I've checked a few more from this list. I think the Batman Forever codes for PSX are bogus, as are the ones for Casper.

Bases Loaded '96 has cheat codes that work on PlayStation, but there's nothing in the Saturn version.

Came up with a new one for Saturn Alien Trilogy. There four special passwords (five if you count the level select ones). The Internet knew about three of four for Saturn and one of four for PlayStation. I filled in the missing ones!

I also found some new ones for Ghen War. The Japanese Internet knew about some of them, but the English Internet didn't.

At the mode select screen, quickly while holding start:
    • Stage select: Right, Right, L, Down, L, A, Y, Right, R
    • Credits: Left, Right, A, R, Y, C, R, Right, Left
    • Movies: Down, Right, Right, A, L, L, R, Right, Right, L, Down
At the pause screen, quickly while holding start:
    • Cheat mode: A, R, Down, Right, Up, A, L
    • Complete mission: Down, A, Y, B, Y, Right, B, Y, Right
    • Change perspective: B, A, R, B, R, A, Left, L
"Change perspective" requires you to either press X+Y+Z while playing to shift the camera, or Z+C to follow projectiles.

    Details and pictures here!

A continued thank you for all the hard work.

I have a request: since we're using a good amount of your screenshots for our hidden content subpages (See Alien Trilogy's), would you be able to capture Saturn screenshots at their native resolution? And uncropped? Thanks if you can <3

Ah, I do capture in native resolution and without cropping, but Substack doesn't preserve that on the upload. Frustrating!

I have the originals, so let me know if you want any particular ones.

I have a folder of an old cheat and tips japanese site, probably compiled from game magazines. At the time when I saved it, there wasnt any western gaming site with the cheats for stage select for Truxton and anime character cards for a 32x game that I forgot the name. If anyone is interested, I can upload somewhere.

Go for it, there are often codes that were published in magazines which never made it to the cheat sites.

Currently playing through Two Point Campus, and I noticed today that it's changed some of the objects, adding pumpkins, spider webs and spooky skeletons under the beds for halloween. All the windows and main doors have added decorations too - it's quite an extensive list of changes, some of them barely visible.

I'm going to hazard a guess it does similar things for other holidays too (I don't want to look yet, because spoilers). I'm not sure if Two Point Hospital also has this feature, but the new one, Two Point Museum might (or at least I'd hope so - it's pretty nifty).

The IGN database is closer to correct on this. It says:
To unlock the tight, double-stacked Nippon Maru Truck, go to the title screen. Press and hold X, then press Start. Keep holding X until you see the Mode Select screen. The Nippon Maru truck will be available once you choose a game mode.

In fact, you can do any face button + Start at the title screen to get Nippon Maru to show up.

Alas, IGN is totally wrong about Lizard Tail, though.

I came up with some new cheats for Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future. They're similar to the existing one; you enter a special set of initials:
    • SOCCER+XXX: Enable the soccer bonus stage
    • EXBBERX+XXX: Immortality mode
    • QQRIQ+XXX : Show FPS
    • XYZZYX+XXX : Show time
    • POPELY+XXX :No effect
The names are not unique; AFTJSXOT works as well as GYUGYU for unlocking all stages.

    Details here.

Here are some obscure codes for Space Channel 5 Part 2. I thought I'd discovered the mirror mode code, but it was hiding out in the strategy guide all along. Amusingly, if you put in the "auto control" code from the first game, you lose instantly.
