Its kinda funny to hear people shouting "I LOVE 3D SHIT " right now, when so many people complained about Sonic 4 graphics and style...I know, its different but the basics are the same...except that lovely 2.5D floor.

I must say that it was pretty cool, spot on, nice textures and some effects were not really necesary (for example, light through the leaves in the back), but it looked nice as eyecandy.

As lot of people said before, it would not be hard to reproduce something like that in realtime with today's computers...but as we all know, fangames are never this quality since it would be such a huge project that is kinda hard for just one or 2 guys to create a custom 3D engine ready to insert 3d models and create levels, don't forget all the shader's tweaking and technical shit, of course that's just talking about graphics. It would be a lot easy to do with some engine like for example, Unity3D or some other modern engine that lets you use today's tecnologies (and it should be free).

 

All I can say is that this video is a pure mind blow, congrats to the author. At first I thought it was a real game engine but with such amount of effects I doubt all that can be done in real time without a monster computer. My guess is that the scene has been animated on tops of recorded footage, thus the level of detail when it comes to movement, and even to camera position! If the author agrees, I'd love to test out this on the EggEngine to see how well it plays :D (even though it still lacks some of the objects needed to reach some of the places ).

 

No, no it is not. They are very very different looks.

 

3D models, 3D backgrounds, but diferent shading. The only different thing to me is like I said, 3D floor and tiles.

 

This looks just like Sonic 4, and the video, with it's 3D models and backgrounds.

 

Exactly, I was talking that Its freaking 3D after all. Just that. I wasnt saying that the art styles were the same or that the models were shaded the same. Some people were just "Ewww 2.5D sucks" with Sonic 4...

People aren't complaining about S4 using 3D, they are complaining because the art style looks like shit.

 

This visually looks nothing like Sonic 4. People were complaining about how obvious the pre-rendered shit stood out. They were not complaining that it was 3D. Fuck, nothing in the game uses models aside Sonic and some objects. Everything else is Super Donkey Kong Country Turbo.

 

Technically, %70 of the game is realtime 3D, only the very basic level tiles are prerendered, even the bridges and shit in Splash hill are a model.

Regardless of the methods used, they're two different art styles.

One looks like plastic, the other has actual depth.

I know I shouldn't say that I want this instead of Sonic 4... but I always wished that Sonic 4 looked like it evolved from Sonic 3. This would be awesome to play, alas, its only a fans dream.

 

It's too bad this topic had to go from things like "I JIZZED" to a discussion about Sonic 4 and graphics.

 

Ya know this is exactly where I thought the game engine was from before it was mentioned that it was a render.

 

Yeah cause a discussion about how graphics is so silly and not worthwhile compared to every member saying "OMG I LUV IT!"

 

I just think the Sonic 4 discussion would be more at home in the Sonic 4 thread. The graphics stuff is fine.

Although I guess since this sort of related to Sonic 4 since people are comparing the graphics...

Sad to think it's a render and not actual gameplay, but with the Egg Engine, it might happen..
