Did you think I was being serious? I was mocking discussion of SONIC CONTINUITY, of all things. There is no continuity.

Oh, it has a continuity, but it's a freakishly screwed up one.

  3. Another one is in the Chaos 0 profile that Aquaslash mentioned. They weren't called the "Chaos Emeralds" before the wiping out of the Echidnas? What about the whole "The servers are the seven Chaos" thing?

I'm going to use the Doctor Who explanation for inconsistencies, and say that in a series that allows for time travel and paradoxes, things can change. There's 8 Chaos Emeralds? Someone obviously changed something with those Time Stones. And so on.

Nevertheless, I have worked out my own ridiculously complicated 'canon' - although I hate that word - which is a mixture of Fleetway, game, and my own thoughts. The Drakon came into this dimension in an attempt to contain Chaos, using the Echidna's emerald deposits. However, on the way back to their own dimension with the new emeralds, they were attacked by a bunch of vicious, Monty-Python-rabbit-like Chao. A few generations later, the Echidnas attempted to take the emeralds back, but Chaos attacked, and most of them were wiped out, leaving only a few. These emeralds were stolen for a time a while back by GUN, during which time all the Shadow stuff was done, and so forth, leading to additional paranoia about thefts from the Echidnas (or Echidna, by the time of the games). Then there's another, manmade set of emeralds created by Eggman with the ROCC, based on Gerald's notes and so forth, eventually combined with the 'real' ones.

All of the above is, of course, nonsense. But entertaining nonsense, I like to think.

Funny story - Sonic X explained it in its canon:

Robotnik repaired the moon himself, for plot usage in a 2-episode Robotnik-beats-Mr-Burns-and-actually-DOES-block-out-the-Sun arc. =P

I love how in Sonic X only the Biolizard's front half was attached to the cannon, likely to not make it look like anything sexual.

The moon is big enough that it will return to a spherical shape on its own. That, or it's because the into to StH was made by blur who hadn't worked on any of the previous games and thus didn't know it had happened.

I've always thought people believed that Adventure onward was almost like a reboot. I guess that isn't as accepted as I had thought.

Realistically, though, there has to be more than 7. Even though 06 wrote itself out of continuity, the initial story assumes that every game prior already happened. There was that whole emerald having been in possession by someone for around 10 years thing, which if that had happened, wouldn't that imply there would at least need to be 8?

Oh, God, don't even start with how '06 abuses the Emeralds.

I can't count how many times I've tried to make sense of that. The mere attempt can induce nosebleeds.

I actually think of Adventure 2 as the reboot, actually, primarily because it doesn't follow Adventure 1 very well, but either one could be called such. Robotnik even introduces himself. But regardless, I can't imagine what took place in Sonic 1-3 and CD continuing on into those lame cities seen in later games.

But as for Sonic 06, it seems to me that it was also planned to be a reboot. For example, neither time travel nor Chaos Control work the same way as they did previously.

You do realize how far those pieces flew, right? And even if they didn't, it would take a loooooooooooong time for that to happen, and if that was the case, it sure as sunshine wouldn't look the same.

Going back to Knuckles' reason for stealing the Chaos Emeralds if they weren't his...because "NOW SONIC CAN CHANGE INTO SUPER SONIC".

If you know your foe has a tactical advantage like the ability to become neigh invulnerable, you probably want to relieve them of it as soon as possible if you still plan on fighting them. Hence, Knuckles sucker punches him in the opening and gets the magics rocks away from Sonic before he even registers Knuckles as a threat.

Hence my 'Video Recorder Theory' as I'll call it, as it explains how the moon returns to it's normal appearance in such a short span, while using something that's within a character's control, aka Chaos Control, while preventing counter arguments such as "Why doesn't it look any different then before, since destroying and reforming would cause some visible differences."

And speaking of Sonic 3's Opening Cutscene, how the hell does Knuckles harm an Invincible being? I've already go a theory based on the Master Emerald, but what do you guys think?

  14. The ME power thing is almost assumed fanon by now, if you're aiming for consistency with the current games and its power to stop the Chaos Emeralds. Otherwise, you could write it off as a wide variety of things, including Super Sonic not being able to protect himself from ambushes.

Maybe because it was a sneak attack? That's my best guess on that matter.

Also worth noting that in Sonic 3's final boss, Eggman was able to knock you out of your super form when he grabbed you and threw you to the ground.

Then there's the opening to Unleashed...

...and being crushed, bottomless pits, drowning, exceeding the 10 minute limit...

...or maybe he just ran out of 50 rings at that very moment. :v:

I think it was just because Super Sonic isn't invincible, as that happened in the s3 final boss too.

  19. Guys...Knuckles PUNCHED Sonic out of his Super Form.

    PUNCHED.

Knuckles was able to knock the emeralds out of Super Sonic because the startup on a Shorkuken is invulnerable. Knuckles would probably punch the emeralds rather than Sonic under those circumstances.
