Perhaps for the I'mOuttaHere animation, but it's out-of-place for every goddamn spring in the game. Unless we're talking Collision Chaos's boss, because then the annoyed-face makes sense.
Sonic CD doesn't use the sprite for descending-from-springs. .___. Neither does Taxman's retro engine. (as far as I know) And in fact Collision Chaos 3 has only one vertical spring, and that spring puts Sonic into rolling mode since it's the start of the pinballing section, I.e. it doesn't even do the 360' spinny upwards thing. This thread would have been in general discussion and not fangaming discussion otherwise. ;p
It was, God knows where Sonic is supposed to look during those pseudi-3D loops as it looked it could be looking down and at the front at the same time. I like where this is going, we need to obtain perfection with this sprite, stat!
I use it sort of when sonic is using knuckles power up in Classic 2. Meh, you don't see if that often. I also hate to say it, but I saw that sprite for the falling off a spring waaayyy before megamix. It's one of those idea's everyone has.
Obligatory party-poop But now it looks even more different from the rest of the CD/S1 sprites! Not sure about the actual sprite being used so often, but I don't have much problem with it in itself. I also never took as much offence to the supposed eye-contact as everyone else apparently does!
Well, to reiterate, it's not so much the eye contact as it is not looking where he's going. That's kind of what women drivers do.
For what it's worth, it was used for "falling" before Megamix, I know I used it in all my unfinished fangames for such a purpose.
Eh, it looks like he's glaring at an explosion he's just caused behind him...like SAdva2's ending, iirc, rather then at the ground.
Made a slight edit to the previous attempt of an edit. The eyebrows were modified because they still looked pissed.
I always liked it for its purpose in Sonic CD, where Sonic was supposed to look angry at the player. You left him hangin' after all. Anywhere else though, especially for a falling animation, just looks kinda weird.
Flapping spikes look good but the flapping arms look wack. Coming from someone who's jumped out of an air plane your arms are fucking rock hard to move free falling.
Actually, I did that on purpose to match up with the rest of the Sonic 1 sprites. He's pretty much constantly pissed looking in 1 and 2 (I guess Robotnik ate his chili dog or something...).
Well, I think it was probably used originally due to its similarity to how Knuckles falls after gliding; not that I think it looks right either.
Because the topic got bumped, I can also post a picture: It's from Sonic Chaos Revolution, which is one if the first fan games which used that Sonic CD sprite (although modified to fit in the game's style). And it looks quite decent.
Woah, and it's widescreen? I need to get this. edit: Looking at YT vids, physics don't look all that hot. It's got nice spritework though!
Holy crap, I remember playing this fangame back in 2004 or 2005, man it was pretty damn hard. I'm not too sure if I ever beat Hydrocity Zone. I remember being pretty amazed at the spritework at the time though :P
