Except this is actually an official way to play those games on modern consoles like PS5, further preserve their legacy on more consoles Ideal? of course not, but actually acknowledging it, choosing it to port to modern consoles is a win, alongside other old arcade games that finally got actual console ports in those yakuza games, Outrun 2 and Spike-Out being some of the latest additions in Yakuza 8 As a side note, SEGA should just collect all those arcade ports from those yakuza games and actually make a separate collections for them, the work is already done.
I imagine Sega wants their games to be shown as they truly are, and not as some shoddy emulator depicts them. For instance, this is what Sonic 1's title screen looks like in Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 (Dreamcast):
If you're going to argue that console ports existing is "preserving their legacy", then it still doesn't really deserve any credit because logically the 2012 Fighters rerelease already did that, by the same definitions. I don't use those definitions though, because barring gimmicks and quirks specific to hardware that programmers haven't cracked yet, consoles and their releases are disposable plastic. I don't respect them, they're going to be on their way out in a few years anyway. I'm not even really saying this because of preservation, I just want all this shit in one place without some hassle. Yakuza is a hassle, Xenia is a hassle. Selecting it from the menu in Sonic Origins DLC 2 isn't. A good PC port will last several console generations (and so will bad ones, by Sonic's standards) when people are dedicated to the games in question, all they have to do is actually release them.
I loved this new Tails Tube. I love when they acknowledge the older games as their past and I love that they referred to the Northstar Island as an upcoming anniversary....as in Superstars DOES take place in the past. I don’t remember if it was there before but I noticed his app icon for Twitter was a silhouette of a Flicky. That’s so cute. Saying Fang “The Sniper” was an alias to avoid trouble makes sense. He’s had 2 names this whole time and that’s a good reason for it. I also like them poking fun at themselves. I don’t care if it’s meta. The jokes still work between them.
It’s cool that Sega included arcade games in like a dragon but, personally, it makes it more infuriating that they couldn’t include fighters in Origins Plus. The port is already done! I’d absolutely drop another $10 for origins dlc with Sonic The Fighters, Sonic R, The Flicky arcade game and genesis roms: of 3D Blast, Spinball and Mean Bean Machine. The additional games I listed were included in Sonic Mega and Gems Collection so I’m assuming their inclusion wouldn’t be difficult. As for the actual subject of this thread: I really enjoyed this Tailstube!
Thanks for the reply. I remember the team used a mod for some camera movement in SA2 (was it the Chao Garden ?) in a recent video, though. They even credited the modder.
There’s probably nuance there. It may be a mod, but SA2 on Steam is an official release and a port rather than emulation. There’s certainly a discussion to be had as to whether that port provides a compromised representation of SA2 as an emulation might, but it would at least follow that rule to the letter.
Christmas episode, with a BUNCH of new vtuber models and a few IDW references to boot. This is the most I've ever heard of Aaron Laplante as Omega. He's...okay. A little odd, but not terrible or anything. They could boot Icky Vicky but not Karen Strassmen...
Well now that was just precious. I love the little side things they do, like this and the Twitter Takeovers, to keep the brand feeling energized.
That was really wholesome, tbh. Also, notice the Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams in the little TV, on background. Neat detail.
Odd, I guess they couldn't get the other guy back in time. No wonder he sounded different, though it's also that they're not doing the filter the same way. Shoulda had Cindy voice Rouge at that point...
Funny, the TailsTube with no real lore dives might be my favourite one yet. Despite being a fluff piece, I found it genuinely sweet, charming and funny in all the places I was clearly meant to, and even Strassman was able to put in a good performance. Don’t know what’s up with Omega’s voice, though. The classic filter is the easiest thing in the world to do so I can only guess they’ve just decided they want something different, but the old filter was absolutely iconic.
It's been said that Roger was Omega for this one. It's probably just a matter of needing a voice and a filter super quickly rather than making a full creative decision. Not sure if it was confirmed but people even said Rouge sounded like someone else filling in, even though they relatively recently did stuff with her new voice. This group right here just seems to be relatively on-call, while someone like Omega probably hasn't had an actor recording anything new for him since TSR.
I thought both were good, the Twitter Takeover and the latest Tails Tube. Both lost some steam near the end, but they're were alright.
