I just completed a full playthrough of the game. Not my best run ever, took me just under 43 minutes, but in all fairness I recorded up to about 7-2 with Kega's VSync on, and apparently VSync doesn't mix well with the AVI logger - controller input would lag about every 15-20 seconds or so. No voiceover, but I am doing somewhat funny annotations (to me anyway). Does anyone know how to upload videos to YouTube over the stupid 10-minute limit without having a Director account? I'd really rather not have to break this up into 5 chunks, but I will if I have to.
Ok, fuck it, decided to split it up anyway. First segment is uploading now, the rest will be uploaded over the next two days. Keep an eye out on my channel for it, YT says it has about 9-10 minutes left for uploading, then of course the processing step. Edit: It's uploaded, and processing now. You can watch the 360p version if you want now, or wait for the 480p version to encode on their end. Here's the video link.
That's kinda splitting hairs when the video is 42:44 long =P Ok, Segment 1 is up, 480p included, plus annotations, at the above link. If you guys think the annotations are humorous, I might do a series of playthrough/review vids with annotations, or maybe even voiceovers. AVGN, you got nothing on me motherfucker!! :specialed:
This is a really good achievement. If I still was the Hitler I used to be, I would complain about hardware incompatibility now :D
Didn't Yuji himself try something like this? This is hella awesome, though. 'Grats to Mairtrus on getting Tech'd, too.
Ooh, do Super Mario Bros. 2 next. I love that game. <3 ...that is, assuming that's one of the titles that are actually eligible for this kind of conversion.
Nice! Looks like a stright port which I never seen wonder why no one has done it before? I can see this becoming a trend. do SMB2 US and JP next Mairtrus! Also, shouldn't someone update Mairtrus's wiki page to include this?
Actually, better idea. Do the JPN SMB2 next. You know, Lost Levels. The engine's practically the same so it shouldn't be much of a difference :P
So is this essentially an NES emulator with the assembly already converted over and some sound rewrites?
That's correct. SMB2j was only officially released on FDS, though there were several pirate carts made (some or all were buggy, IIRC). I think Loopy did a hack that either used MMC1 or MMC3. Working on getting the rest of the segments of my run encoded for upload.
I know SoniNeko has a wonderful port of the All Stars remix (which is the best rendition of the Mario theme to me). Sound aside (which is still pretty accurate considering the console move) this looks like a pretty solid port.
In fact, this plays better than the All-Stars version. That one had a really stupid bug when hitting the blocks from below. I think it was that Mario's vertical speed when clashing with them was actually given the opposite value it should, or something like that.
Luckily, BMF released a fix for that fuckery. I can't believe that difference wasn't caught in testing. So damn annoying - even as a kid, I detested All Stars. version of SMB1 for that.
