To be fair, most people would assume they were raptured or something. "Temporal anomaly" is too sciency.

Yeah if I got swooped up into a white castle world I'd just think I kicked the bucket.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough - that's my point lol. They both seem to be taking it very well for some reason and instead of panicking and worrying about his granddaughter, or asking Shadow if he knows anything about what's going on, he just spouts science mumbo-jumbo and somehow immediately discerns that they're in a "temporal anomaly". Like in the original game Tails quickly figures out that time shenanigans are happening because they keep seeing places they've been before. Gerald has been... I mean, I guess just walking around there in the white void avoiding aliens until Shadow shows up? And in that time figured it out because of reasons?

To be honest I'm not seeing what all the fuss is about with this game. The gameplay doesn't feel better than Unleashed or Gens to me personally and the story is nothing to write home about. I'll beat it since I bought it anyway but this really isn't doing anything for me.

Also I gotta get this off my chest-- I really do not the general game design philosophy in these newer games:

Ironic that the second routine is a lot more impressive. I've come to the opinion lately that I think the lightspeed dash is actually just kind of a bad ability because it's just autopathing. At least Chaos Control in Shadow Generations has that as part of a broader mechanic and is used far more sparingly.

I get where you're coming from but I much prefer the freedom of being able to use it anywhere I like. It felt good to use in SA2 and the only real problem I had with it was how many actions got assigned to the B button. Really didn't like when they changed it so only certain trails of rings function that way and I like this new system even less. It feels more Zelda than Sonic to me.

Light dashing on regular trails of rings is great. It's that little bit of freedom that aids in building speed and getting Sonic lined up with a path correctly. Great mechanic, needs to come back without bringing Sonic to a dead stop ala Frontiers.

Light dashing on extended trails of rings that auto path you through areas you can't normally reach is boring. It's functionality "press X to win". And also only being able to light dash on specific rings is equally as bad. The Chaos Control warp points that are easily reachable on a standard path are hardly better, because they take no more engagement to use. At best, you'll have to quickly fill up the gauge. But the chances are that you've got a full gauge or game hands you an item box to do that for you.

How the warp points could be better is if they they were placed to accentuate the challenge. There are plenty of time when Chaos Control is used effectively in this game to stop time. Take Sunset Heights, where you optionally use Chaos Control to turn falling rocks into homing attack targets. If you do that correctly, you can access an upper path with a collectable. Now imagine if at the end of that path there was also a warp point. You'd be tasked with not only successfully making it to the secret path, but you'd also have to be quick enough doing so to reach the extra optional warp point.

Well, Gerald isn't just a scientist. He's also into archeology, which implies a deep knowledge of history and foreign cultures. He most likely saw all the castles and other structures, displaced in both time and space, and calmly put two and two together.

Well, that's my headcanon at least.

Honestly, while I think they stop short of saying "He's a genuis, he figured it out in ways beyond your comprehension", There's some merit to him deducing as much. He created Shadow who, because of Black Doom's DNA, can warp spacetime. He did further research into that ability and figured out how to temporarily replicate it through the time switches used in Cannon's Core (which he specifically mentions in his diary). While doing that research, he came to the hypothesis that doing Chaos Control with two emeralds at the same time can create time portals, something that is proven correct in 06 and he mentions in dialogue within white space.

With a background in the practical application of temporal physics and theoretical knowledge that is ultimately correct, it's not as much a leap for him to deduce something's up with time. Besides, he's standing in front of a decimated city that, as far as we know, has never existed up to his timeframe.

That is actually an incredible idea and one I don’t think they really did at all in this game to my recollection. Surprised they didn’t think of that. Maybe they’ll do that their next go at this style, if we get another.

Now I'm just thinking about how brilliant the SnapCube dub of this game will be - they can use White Space to represent Hell (or "my house") and finally conclude the storyline of Shadow trying to take the Devil's position. They could use the Black Moon as a new "big fucking thing" too.

Penny P. Snapcube is prolly caught up trying to figure out the logistics of making Kingdom Hearts a viable experience, since that's the next title she announced the team had plans to dub over. And if I recall, she wanted to do a Sonic dub after every other, so it'll probs be a bit of a wait haha.

Back to SxSG, I recently watched over the Launch Trailer for the game and noticed the fresh CGI scenes. Does anyone know if they were done internally, or otherwise outsourced? Environmentally they look gorgeous, but there's something off about the character models' rendering that I can't quite put my finger on. And that's weird, because on the surface level they look perfectly fine, but I dunno, they're soft in a way I can't quite parse and it's throwing me for a loop. Can anybody confirm if I'm crazy or not?
