    So, is it just me, or is the Sonic Generations side of the package just notably worse all around? I feel stuff is breaking far more than it used to in previous versions, especially loops and the truck in City Escape.

    Okay so I'm not the only one. Sonic feels unwieldly to control and its super easy to get stuck on platforms. There's some noticeable pop in as well.

    I need to replay the OG without mods to make sure I'm not crazy but this doesn't feel nearly as smooth or polished as the Original but it could just be that way because I haven't played the Original version, completely vanilla, in 10 years.

    So oddly enough the leaked switch rom i played, i did a full playthrough of base gens on which ran surprisingly well and i only saw bugs or glitches that i had already seen in the older pc version, but i havent tried sonic gens at all on my pc copy yet. I'll keep an eye out myself as I plan to start on it soon, i only just 100% the shadow half tonight (and even then i still need to do the doom zone additions)

    Someone earlier brought up about whether or not the Japanese version is getting a rewrite & redub, and based on the sources I've posted below, I can infer this:

    • The Japanese version re-uses the original 2011 recordings but with some exceptions...
    • Sonic has newly recorded lines for the character rescue scenes. Everything else (except Eggman) reuses the 2011 recordings. This means Sonic goes back and forth between 2011 Kanemaru and 2024 Kanemaru throughout the game.
    • Eggman's lines have been completely redubbed by the current voice actor Kotaro Nakamura (the previous voice actor Chikao Ohtsuka passed away in 2015). The dialogue itself appears to be unchanged, just re-recorded. Not sure why they felt the need to re-record if they're not changing the dialogue...
    • The script appears to be unchanged (I mean since they're re-using the original recordings they can't really change it). So in the Japanese version Knuckles does NOT say "where's the rest of my island?", he comments on Sonic's appearance just like the original.

    Ultimately I think that’s why the English version got so many rewrites. They wanted to re-record stuff anyway to make the introduction of new dialogue for Sonic not clash with Roger’s old performance, and I guess they took it as an opportunity to tweak a bunch of stuff. Some of it I think is pretty reasonable, like Eggman’s comments about Time Eater and Tails more obviously remembering Chemical Plant, but of course quite a bit of it ends up being a little unnecessary.

    From my side to side testing, yes. X Generation breaks down a lot. I spent 3 hours just fooling around in GHZ. Sonic falls into Robotnik's traps far too many times than he use to.
    I could try extensive testing beyond Green Hill to confirm it, but Shadow Generations ain't gonna time attack itself. I gotta break into the top 20 in Chaos Island.

    I haven't played enough to see for myself but going by the comments above, at this point I'm starting to think Sonic Team is literally incapable of porting their games without breaking something lmao

    No port job is ever going to be one to one. Despite some behaviors being inconsistent, this is still a very good job.

    Great game but man, the final boss for Shadow felt lackluster compared to the bosses of Frontiers. I mean, gameplay wise it was a lot more engaging than just spamming buttons to fight, but it just didn't feel as hype/raw to me so I felt disappointed lmao.

    I won't fault them for the difficulty of porting. It's never wholly *THAT* easy, but I do wish a little more time was taken to refine it.

    Another I caught was the music choices for Metal Sonic's fight are flipped. The extended cut for the introduction cutscene plays on restarts, but the short version plays for the introduction cutscene.

    Small stuff like this should have been bugged, but likely ignored for hitting release markers. If there's social monitoring, it will likely get picked up and patched eventually, but it does make half the game feel like an afterthought

    I 100%ed Shadow Generations in just under 20 hours of playtime, which is pretty chunky and I’m pleased with. It’s a pretty tight package and plays very well, even if Radical Highway without the Doom Wings is HARD.

    I'm getting a bit better at the Doom Morph but it's funny how the controls for each of shadow's new abilities feels less intuitive than the one before.

    Just 100%ed both games with all achievements. Total playtime was just over 25 hours. Incredible experience, would recommend to just about anyone.

    So, does the legend of Faust exist in the Sonic universe? Then what does that mean for the character who's named after Mephistopheles and literally appears in this game?

    (Yes, I know that "Faustian deal" is just a generic term they used to get the point across without any further implications. I just found the line funny.)

    I fucking love this game. I don’t remember the last time I really had to work for S ranks in away that felt fair (except for the building surfing but, the handling for that stinks and ended several runs through no fault of my own). I also can’t overstate how much of this is from the handling and controls being almost perfect and I really hope the modern levels from Sonic Generations get ported into this game so I can fall in love with them in a whole new light.

    Wait until I tell you there's a upper path that skips that platforming section at around 1:10.

    Those two acts were so painful to S Rank as regular Shadow, soul crushing at times, but I couldn't resist the challenge. Except building surfing. That section can eat my whole ass

    It's definitely breaking more. I had to reset my first run on Classic Green Hill because I got stuck in one of the loops and couldn't move. And all I had to do there was hold back :V

    It's kinda surprising because I can't remember Generations being that easy to break.

    And if not fixed by official patches, i hope the comunity have an hand on it.
    The moders have done a good job with Origins, from my point of view.
